A lot of people seem to be missing the key point that dguy6789 made. MW2 sets a very bad precedent, that publishers can take all the control away from the players, restricting what you can and cannot do, not to mention sapping every last penny from their customers. This is very bad for the future of gaming, not just PC gaming, but console gaming as well.

I sincerely hope that people don't continue to support this kind of behavior and provide financial support to this crap.

Companies are in it for a profit. Sapping every last penny? You mean charging ten dollars more? I paid fifty dollars for NES games that just came out. That was like almost 20 years ago. I paid 53 bucks for this, there were a lot of deals like Amazon free gift card, newegg 7$ off with free shipping etc.

Steadily increasing the price tag while decreasing the content in the initial product, while charging additional money for a few hours of gameplay in DLC, etc. Great to turn a profit, but ultimately devastating for the consumer. Tactics like these will eventually cause the next electronic gaming collapse.

That's the most damning part. Proves that game reviews for big titles are little more than paid advertisements.

They have a point. Though, i read something like this and first thing that comes to my mind is "Ethics in drug industry vs ethics in....video game reviewing?"

Sorry, but I see this as significantly below the social crime threshold.

It's one of those things that you KNOW goes on, and has been going on as long as there has been a marketing division at any company that distributes product. There is absolutely nothing sacred about making video games that demands they be immune from such effects.

Either accept that this goes on and learn to trust your own opinion or those of respected friends and review sights, or just stop caring. It's not an industry that represents a threat to public health or safety...so complaints about it come off as misdirected, wasted furor.

Whats the higher quality FPS that is currently out?

Team Fortress 2, Counterstrike, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2004, Unreal Tournament 3, Quake 3 Arena, Serious Sam(all versions), just to name a couple multiplayer focused ones. MW2 isn't even in the same league as these games.

Yea, it's in a different league. MW2, in unique users alone on the PC trumps all of those games. Add in the consoles, and it's an even bigger behemoth.

Player count is completely irrelevant to the topic. How many people buy something has no correlation with how high the quality is. MW2 and several other recent games have proven that shitty games can still sell like hotcakes.

Team Fortress 2 by a long shot.

TF2 is NOT the same game type as COD6 other than its genre.

TF2 is a casual game, it takes little or no skill to play, and you cannot feel competitive in a pub.

I play tf2 when I do not feel like putting my try face on. Run around as a pyro flaming everything easy high score.

Only two classes require any skills which are sniper and scout.

TF2 is a great game with a good community, plus the developer likes to keep the game alive but just like TF wasn't really in competition with CS. TF2 isnt in competition with COD6.

Player count means everything.

People won't play a shitty game. Just because you don't like a particular game doesn't mean it's not good. Trust me, a game doesn't have the most players for being a shitty game.

You may not like the game, that's fine. That's like a movie critic saying a certain blockbuster movie sucked, but in reality nearly everyone enjoyed it. That's what MW2 is, a blockbuster. Nearly everyone loves it, but you have a few people that feel like they need to shit in someone's pancakes to feel special.

Personally, I despise TF2 and Counter-strike, and I don't care much for the L4D's (running theme... I dislike source games), but that doesn't mean they're terrible games just because of my one opinion.

MW2 has a lot wrong with it, I admit. I've grown tired of it myself, but I'll eventually go back to it.

Dude, you have some serious issues if you think CS 1.6, the buggy ass BF series (what a great PC precedent those were huh?) Q3a, and SS are competitors.

At this point you are either suffering a concussion or you are trolling.

No kidding. Not only that, the UT series is pretty much dead. I love UT, but it's no good when you can't find any servers.

MW2 is easily one of the best FPS games I've ever played. I didn't play Modern Warfare 1 online, however, so the whole Perks/Killstreak stuff is all-new to me which helps.

How do you know? You do not even own it.

But you do know there are ways to play a game when you don't own it like playing it at friend's houses. It's sad that a game like this sold so much and now other companies are going to be following the same track since people will buy whatever is thrown in their face.

Bull. See most titles under the EA Sports franchise, same game every year, 50+ price tag. See The Sims, the initial games were fun, but the record setting number of expansions destroyed it. And it still outsells most titles when they release another expansion. See World of Warcraft.

What? D:

MW2 is not a competitive game. The weapons have zero recoil and the kills are determined by who is lagging the least

I find its who spots who first, i usually kill people and they dont know im there like 60% of the time and vice versa i always get shot and i dont see the guy, killcam stops camping like that because you see where they are after. The other 40% of the time its just a mix between me shooting somone whos shooting at an ally of mine and therefore not paying attention to me or just a straight up 1v1 they see me i see them shootup.

I've gotta say that player count really does matter. with a higher player count you have a much better chance of finding a decent "server" or in MW2's case, a decent match. in older games too the only people playing are the people who've been playing for years -- which absolutely kills the fun for casual gamers/gamers that arent l33t when they're consistently dieing

"PC gaming doesn't matter"

Thank you SONY and MICROSOFT for releasing consoles that are more powerful than any PC in it's price range.

In another post - people say "vote with your wallet" - well - guess what - it doesn't matter.

This is a major blow to PC gaming to say the very least. MW2 proves that a company can put out a very shoddy POS of a game, charge more than a normal PC game for it, and have fantastic sales because of the game's name and journalist bribery. Other game companies are going to duplicate this because it works. PC gaming will continue its trend of rapidly declining quality until all you have left is MW2 clones and MMOs.

There are very few good PC game companies left, and I imagine it's only a matter of time until the potential of having 100 times the sales of a game by making a console version instead tempts them.

On the bright side, there's still a whole bunch of good old PC games I haven't played yet..

LOL you just lost ALL credibility saying TF2 is a casual game. CoD 6 is a trash simple and that. I've played it and it has NOTHING against TF2 in depth. MW2 is nothing but Halo 3 with new skin and ideas stolen from PC community. How do I know? Because every time I play Halo 3, I can't stop feeling how inferior it feels to what PC FPS offer. Same goes to MW2 when I fire it up.

You want depth and skill? Try Red Orchestra. That is what hardcore skill is. MW idiots like you would die by the dozen by my accurate rifle fire 400m+ away, while you are bewildered by an actual weapon RECOIL!

Player count means everything.

People won't play a shitty game. Just because you don't like a particular game doesn't mean it's not good. Trust me, a game doesn't have the most players for being a shitty game.

You know what's also the most selling beer in the US? Budweiser. Have you tried it? It tastes like bad water. But millions of beer drinker's can't be wrong right?! It so POPULAR!

By your count, Sims must be THE BEST GAME IN TEH WORLD too right?

It's just so sad that ignorant fools like digitaldurandal and fatpat268 are ones happy to pony up $60+ for mediocre crap and dragging the rest of the industry down with it.

I wouldn't mind so much about MW2 and console fanboys praising their crap, but insulting classics like TF2 without any merit, that touches a nerve.

Or you know.. man up and sink some time and practice? It wasn't that hard for me to pick up Red Orchestra or IL2. I just needed some patience and willingness to learn. In a month or so, I could hold my own against pixel snipers in RO, and veteran dogfighters in IL2. Before then, I was run&gun player in MW1 and arcade ace in Ace Combat. All you need is to turn in your pride and be willing to pick up from zero. Like in real-life when you're learning to play something new. Little kiddies these days just can't stand a little bit of challenge and has to be spoon-fed by corporate greed.

VGcats have a perfect comic for this:

I never played CoD4:MW2 but have played CoD4:MW, and can safely say that CS:S is better. So is DoD:S. I don't like TF2 for some reason so no comment on that. BF1942 is still an awesome game though, but that is a different type of game and there really isn't anything that it can be compared to aside from crappy games like BF:BC.

When the steam holiday sale was going on I found it kinda funny that somehow MW2 was still the top selling game.
