This quote pretty much sums it up ---->
Yup. Every time Steam has a sale on L4D2, the douchebag factor goes up by 5.
It's a great game, but unless you have buddies to play with, you're sol.
If someone is too cheap to buy the game at regular price, their probably going to be too cheap to have a mic and they usually do not take the game very seriously. At least that is my thought on the topic.
I pre-purchased l4d2 the day it was available, and was playing as soon as the crash to desktop issue was fixed, which was almost 2 weeks after release. During the past 13 months the average quality of the people playing has gone downhill, and bad.
I see a lot of tf2 and counter-strike players that buy l4d2, and are not prepared for the level of teamwork l4d and l4d2 requires. Example - the other day a guy with only around 7 hours playing time joins the game, we are in The Parish 2nd map. Before we leave the safe room we talk about which way we are going to go in the park, and agree to go to the right. I warned the new guy to stay out of the middle of the park, that it was a death trap. The new guy breaks away from the team and runs through the middle of the park, a hunter pounces him and he is dead before we can reach him. After the hunter pounces him, he starts typing in "help, help me." Using my mic I tell him, "We told you not to go through the middle of the park." He types in that he was sorry and will listen next time.
Looking at the guys profile, he had a lot of time in TF2, but had just bought l4d2. I suspect he was trying to play l4d2 like he would tf2, and it dont work that way.
The bad thing is, I see this type of behavior over, and over, and over again in just about every public game I play. People buy the game, dont reply to questions, dont have a mic, will not work as a team.
A couple of days ago, I join a public game of the parish and ask how much playing time my other team members have. The spitter runs to where the surivors can see him, and the spitter is killed. I make a comment along the lines - "I guess yall dont have much playing time." One of the infected comes back and says "if you dont like the way we play, why dont you leave." So I say something like "ok",,,, and I leave the game.
I have close to 900 hours playing time in l4d2 and 600 - 700 hours in l4d. In the past few months it appears to me that the overall quality of the l4d2 has gone downhill. The good players that bought the game right when it came out either play with friends, or have moved onto other games. Some of my buddies have stopped playing l4d2 and have since started playing various call of duty games. Personally, I have started playing some counter-strike:source gun games modification and borderlands.
