lol was considering buying the l4ds but getting fed up with shooters a bit and had enuf of the source engine

i bought the serious sam hd packs recently and its just as abandoned as far as multiplayer goes mostly on the versus side though, dont get that its almost empty are people still on the originals lol?

EDIT: actually im suprised how few shooters like ut2004, CSes,MWs, and hl2dm have the healthy staying power they do online compared to others

Sounds like there are several people in this thread who should be exchanging contact info?

One really good way to get static groups if none of your RL friends play games is to join a guild. They aren't just for MMO's (though many are), and many guilds I have been in over the years span lots of games and switch games together.

Actually UT2004 kinda did split the player base a little, but since it was superior in all ways to UT2003 eventually everyone moved on board with it.

UT3 sure as hell seemed to tick people off.

I still play L4D2 about every other day for an hour or so. I'll hook up with a random group usually. I guess I've been lucky 'cause for the most part the other group members have not been total tards/rambos/griefers. Of course there is the occassion where you'll get stuck with either one or more of the former. I just disconnect and find another game.......meh

Oh, and the custom maps tend to add way more fun to the game. I myself enjoy the City17, Night Terror (Haunted Mansion = many LOL's), I Hate Mountains, and Death Aboard primarily.

I'm still playing both. My friends as I got back into it due to the sacrifice DLC that was just released.

None of my friends are computer nerds. None of they play games on a PC so I'm always left with the random people I find on the game.

Heh, yep, same here. Couple of my buddies have been trying to convince to me to get a 360 for years now. Fuck that.

I have a couple of buddies that have been trying to get me to do the same.

I'll never do it.

Why the hell don't THEY go out and get PC's? :awe:

i have a group of steam friends (~15 regulars) that came together out of TF2. About 8 of us still play L4D2 a couple of times weekly whenever we get tired of pubbing on tf. Mics are a must.

Versus and some of the mutations work out fine with a good group of friends. Pub and random lobbies is worse odds than vegas. Some of the 10 vs 10 server mods can be fun though if you dont have friends.
versus is the only way to keep the game fresh, sp and coop gets old fast.

There are still a bunch of bugs/issues: spawn locations, bot ai, random crap, cycle timing, map exploits, server mods, matchfailmaking, connection issues. The biggest problem is that valve keeps tweeking the gameplay based on complaints/suggestions. Unfortunately this one rule fits all ruins the game for people who have been playing a while. Nerfs for all the newbs makes it impossible to play against veteran survivor teams when you are infected.

This is why I don't like multiplayer only games - unless its big like an MMO, it may not have staying power. That is why i didn't jump on LFD2. Only a few games really have that kind of staying power

Well join in when you see me online! I have like 100 Steam friends, but I've played maybe 3 L4D2 games with any of them; almost always random versus games. :hmm:

Think I paid full price when it came out early this year. I've played it to death, and am getting a bit bored. Most people just play the mall versus. The carnival one is ok, but too open. The other two rain/swamp maps aren't suited or liked in versus.

The game's a bit hit and miss. I join random servers, and sometimes get a good team. Sometimes my team sucks but there are fun people, which makes it better.

The other 75% of the time, there are dipshits who give orders, get pissed when you don't do exactly what they do, won't shut up with their mics, and take the game way too seriously. Then there's the shitty teams that don't work together, people who just suck, don't keep up, run off on their own...

By the way, if anyone still plays and wants to add me, feel free to do so (KeithTalent). I hop on relatively often; be warned I am pretty mediocre, but I try hard and have lots of fun doing it.

The game is WAY worse online on Xbox Live. People are TERRRIBLE. Like really really terrible. There's hardly any teamwork too. I tried finishing the campaigns with randoms and spent 3 days of people voting to quit on the rescure stage cause they couldn't beat it. Douchebags who shoot you because you didn't save them fast enough and noobs who jump ONTOP of the green goo when they get spit on. I tried to get as many achievements as I can but without a premade team of four, the multiplayer ones are going to be kind of hard.

I think i played the first one too much, & while the second one is "better" on paper, it just doesn't feel as good as the first one did.

According to my Xfire numbers (which are very accurate),
L4D - 565 hours
L4D2 - 64 hours

I dunno entirely why, but i liked the first one better.
And while tons of my "friends" (mostly people i played with in L4D) play L4D2 a huge amount, i just don't have the desire to.

I think Borderlands is largely why i haven't bothered with L4D2 much other than playing with IRL friends @ LANs, though...

L4D is simply much better than L4D2. I've been playing L4D since the demo came out and it is still awesome.

L4D is better simply because L4D has Zoey. Without Zoey, there's no reason to go on trying to survive.

It's ok, I'm used to being raped by noobs and griefers. :D

Yeah guys, as I said above, just add me if anyone feels like playing; better an ATer on my team than a random nub.

Zin: you played Arkham yet? I'm about 25% through; pretty consoley game, but also pretty damn fun I must say.

yeah, I think I'm under 25%

it's quite fun, really wish I had a working controller, though. This is not keyboard friendly, imo.

I spent nearly 1 hour dealing with GFWL (I have an older account, which I never used, trying to track it down and learn more about this service--so they don't crap on my machine), and another hour installing my old analog controller, only to learn that the analog axis is completely reversed, and no software will seem to fix it.
curses.

Yeah, it took me over 40 minutes to get GFWL sorted. What a piece of shit.

I don't mind the controls too much, however I do find the camera angles a little whacked here and there. All in all, pretty good times though.

Its no fun playing online with random people. In my case, they always seemed to know too much about the levels, so i felt like i was on a guided tour of the level with a drill sergeant. "Go here, its a better spot to wait for the oncoming rush." or "turn this way, its statistically safer."

Yea, that's pretty much why I stopped playing L4D in general. I always felt like I was the person dragging my team down because I didn't know the best spots.

Even playing with friends got frustrating because they hated losing, and eventually I just stopped playing L4D and L4D2 with them. :\

Have you tried the 360 Controller emulator?

It seems to help in those games that work well with the 360 controller if you have a different controller (like a logitech dual shock wannabe).

Loved both L4D and L4D2 online versus though I have 2-3x the hours logged on L4D2 which I found much more enjoyable (just liked the maps better). Actually, the day L4D2 came out, I never played L4D again. And 2 months after BFBC2 came out and I finally bought it, I never played L4D2 again.

Been looking for a reason to go back to L4D2 and even some of my steam Friends have mentioned it but none of us have really followed through. We're all playing different games. I've been playing BFBC2 for 7 straight months...
