Lebron James...MVP

Clear choice imo.

The NBA will announce LeBron James as its MVP on Monday, The Plain Dealer of Cleveland and Associated Press have reported, citing unnamed sources.

A day before the Cleveland Cavaliers begin their second-round series against the Atlanta Hawks, the league will anoint James, 24.

The announcement will be made at James' alma mater, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, the reports said. The Cavaliers called a news conference for 4 p.m. ET but didn't specify the nature of the event.

His Cavaliers teammates were expected to attend.

James, whose Cavaliers swept the Detroit Pistons in the first round of the playoffs, averaged 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists during the regular season, his sixth in the NBA, in which Cleveland won a team-record 66 games and earned the top overall seed in the playoffs.

The Cavs host Atlanta on Tuesday after the Hawks finished off the Miami Heat in Game 7 of their first-round series Sunday.

As if there was any doubt. I will be interested to see how the voting went though.

I'm guessing 2 to 1 in first place votes, altho probably should be a wider margin. Both had outstanding season's, but its Lebron's best all around, with his team having the best record. There's always a 'feel good' factor influencing the voters, and he probably gets that too, being his first mvp and kobe winning last year.

Can't wait to see the Cavs crush the Lakers, that will be fun.

Someone was trying to tell me the Rockets could give the Lakers a run, but I'm not really seeing it.

Karl Malone lost to MJ when he won MVP as well I believe.

Edit: According to Wikipedia he won the MVP in 1997 (also in 1999) the year they lost to the Bulls in the Finals the first time.

Yep, Malone was the first one that popped into my head.

He's been in the league for 6 years already? Fuck i'm getting old.

Haha, some friends and I were talking about this just a couple of weeks ago. I would've swore on my mother's grave that this was at most his 4th year. 🙂

Another instance like this one where we couldn't believe how long it'd been....take a guess on when Mike Tyson bit the ear off Holyfield, then look up the actual year. See if you were way off like my friends and I were.

Should have been Dwyane Wade 🙂.

Oh come on now.

Bron lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks AND they had the best record in the league.

James is having the news conference at his old high school gym, lol.

If any GM other than the Cavs' Ferry think they have a chance of signing him as a free agent in 2010, they need to enter a drug rehab facility.

nope, i see the greed in lebron and wouldn't be shocked to see him in NYC in 2010.
cleveland is just too small a stage for someone with his ego.

Why? LeBron has stated that he's very interested in being the biggest star (not just b-ball) in the world, and the general perception is that is more readily accomplished in NYC/LA/Chicago than in Cleveland, or even Boston/Philly.

I think LeBron sees himself as an entertainer as much as a basketball superstar.

If he does lead Cleveland to the title this year and/or next year, I could imagine him thinking, "OK, I drew forth water from a rock for Cleveland, next stop, MSG". I would like to be wrong about LBJ moving to a different franchise, but fear I am not.

Loyalty and his roots mean too much to him. If his relationship is still great with management in cleveland, ie they are a championship contender and continue getting better, no reason he'd go to a rebuilding franchise, especially one that doesn't play defense and is run by Dolan. For most people it might be a no-brainer to leave, but as much as he talks that's not his makeup.

Lebron is having one of the greatest seasons for a player, ever. As good, and valuable, as Kobe and Wade have been, Lebron has been even better.
