This has been done in many other states already. This isn't something new or groundbreaking.

Someone smoking in a car in front of your car is annoying and irritating? That sucks. Good thing you respect their right to do so.

Oh boy, another one of these threads.

I predict it will get to 3+ pages within 1 hour.

I love it. I am very happy that I don't have to smell that disgusting stench out in public anymore save for rare occassions. If you want to smoke be my guest but I do NOT want to inhale it.

Gwinnett County, GA and a couple of other Atlanta metro counties already had this. They just expanded it state wide. This law is actually less restrictive.
The law will allow smokers to light up only in a handful of places, including bars and restaurants which do not admit persons under 18.

I agree. I think people's viewpoints would be a little different if a private business owner decided that people could burn tires on one side of the room, but not the other.

No it's not the same as tobacco. But if the government can ban marijuana in the entire country, they can ban tobacco smoking in public places I guess.

I'm only happy with the ban because it benefits me. I'm selfish like that.

You know what the funny thing is? I just went to lunch with a girl yesterday, and even though she doesn't smoke, she always takes the smoking section.
Why?
In general, the smoking section is far less crowded and noisy. When we were first seated, we were the only people there for at least 20 minutes. I thought about it, and she's right. I'm a smoker, so naturally I always take the smoking section at lunch time, but I'd never really thought about the fact that there's always more people in non-smoking.

Same as always - government overstepping its bounds. Some people will understand why this is bad, many people will not.

Smoking sections in restaurants work about as well as peeing sections in swimming pools.

Yep, it all depends on who's bull is getting gored. Sadly, too many selfish people don't see what a dangerous violation of private property rights this is. Too many people consider a privately owned business to be "public property."

BTW, just to head this off at the pass: I do not smoke, nor do I like the smell of it.

Not when they are closed off and ventilated.

i respect it, unless they have a child in there, and they throw the butts on the ground.

it is usually the smoker that has no respect for anyone or the filth they put on planet.

How many restaurants actually went through that trouble though? Very few that I've been in.

Up here in NY quite a few did. Then they got f'ed in the A when the state decided to ban smoking in all public places.

My gf's uncle is still paying for the loan he pulled to install a enclosed smoking section.

The majority of them around here are completely seperate sections, with smoke suckers or fans in the ceiling of the smoking sections. I understand what you're saying about those restaurants where it's maybe twenty feet away from non-smoking and has no separating walls or anything.

In most of the South, it IS something fairly new.
