By that line of logic all people driving cars should be arrested.Originally posted by: Fritzo
We have that here. I LOVE it. Best law ever
I always made the arguement that if someone was spewing poisonous cyanide gas, they would be arrested, yet somehow spewing cigarette smoke if perfectly legal. Makes no sense to me.

You know what the funny thing is? I just went to lunch with a girl yesterday, and even though she doesn't smoke, she always takes the smoking section.
Why?
In general, the smoking section is far less crowded and noisy. When we were first seated, we were the only people there for at least 20 minutes. I thought about it, and she's right. I'm a smoker, so naturally I always take the smoking section at lunch time, but I'd never really thought about the fact that there's always more people in non-smoking.
Smoking sections in restaurants work about as well as peeing sections in swimming pools.
How many restaurants actually went through that trouble though? Very few that I've been in.
My gf's uncle is still paying for the loan he pulled to install a enclosed smoking section.
I'm not sure either.Originally posted by: Nitemare

I don't see how banning smoking in someone's own property is in anyway constitutional. I'm amazed with what we let our nanny states get away with in this day and age.

I absolutely hate the smell of smoke, it's just absolutely horrible. I live with a roommate who smokes, and even though he doesn't (or hopefully doesn't) smoke in the apartment, I still have to smell his foul smelling smoked up clothes and himself.
It sucks, and you smokers don't even realize how bad it smells because you're so used to it it doesn't even phase you.
I'm glad they pass this stuff, if smoking only affected the person smoking, then hey, I'd be all for it, but since it irritates the piss out of others, they should have to find a common place to do the smelly deed, not make non smokers scramble to find a comfortable environment.

How would you feel if the government came on your private property and forced you to allow people to smoke?
And do not assume that everyone opposed to these laws are smokers.
I've smoked for years, and I've also quit smoking totally for years. I know both ends of the deal.Originally posted by: Paulson

You support the govt. controlling your life. Someday you will be sorry.don't want them driving a car around the restaurant while I'm eating though. It's not that I don't understand the point that it's private property. I do. I'm just playing devils advocate here, mixing in some of my own bias because of my hatred for smoking.
At least I'm honest about why I support the ban.

Waiting for this to come to MI. I think it's crazy that they have let smokers slowly kill all around them for so long. It would be one thing if they werent harming others. To me it's very similar to drunk driving. Both can cause deaths to others although the person may have done it many times and been "safe". You can do whatever you want in the privacy of your own home or out where you aren't harming anyone (Darwin awards for causing your own death though), but when it becomes a matter of public safety someone needs to step in.

I do not smoke. I find it absolutely DISGUSTING. Even someone smoking in a car in front of my car is annoying and irritating.
However, the fact that the gov't steps in to tell private business owners whether or not they can allow smoking on their property is wrong. While this law benefits me, I still think it's wrong.

i respect it, unless they have a child in there, and they throw the butts on the ground.
it is usually the smoker that has no respect for anyone or the filth they put on planet.
