LA or SF

We're deciding between the two to relocate to. Both have pros and cons. I have family in both, she has a lot in Santa Monica(where I'm flying out to in a couple of weeks to interview). I know a lot of folks live out there. Thought I'd see what others thought.

This times a billion. The city themselves are trash. The surrounding surburbs are much nicer.

LA if you want to maximize the advantages of the big city (more restaurant, cultural, and similar options), and more diversity in neighborhoods and cultures, and better climate. SF if you prefer less shallow people (but more eccentrics/crazies politically), more natural beauty, and less sprawl.

Commuting from Huntington Beach to Santa Monica would be an absolute bitch. No way I would make that drive.

My best advice would be to find somewhere decent that is close to where you work because long commutes suck.

Oh, and avoid the Valley. It is like an oven there during the summer. Seriously, it is like 10-15 degrees hotter there than it will be along the coast.

Depends on what hours you go in, but I did costa mesa to westwood for 4 years. It did take some sanity out of me.

Another vote for L.A but mainly for the suburbs around it. There's a ton of diversity and stuff to do in the vicinity that you don't and won't likely stick in the city. Also if you plan to live in SF it's like LA but crazier in terms of lay out and that it's stacked on a mass of hills and traffic in the city is insane.

Depends on how brave you are. It's doable but it depends on the route and how comfortable you are mixing it up with drivers who don't give a shit about you let alone see you.

Marina del Rey is nice, expensive, but anywhere on the West Side will be expensive. I liked L.A. but it is just too crowded there now. I'm much happier in San Diego.
