If you want southern california, go with San Diego. If you want northern, I like San Jose.

If I had to pick, I'd take San Diego.

move to Compton

Actually Dominguez Hills is in Compton, and it's a very decent area that's not super expensive. Even if indirectly and unintentional, your obvious sarcastic suggestion was a pretty good one.

Legendary Palace - Oakland, CA - Great dim sum.

If you can afford to live in one of the nice areas of SF in a large place with parking & laundry then great. Its really expensive in the city and you have to enjoy the lifestyle of walking, public transit, eating out, late nights.

If you ae not a Big City kinda family - LA is the choice or find a suburb of SF - North bay areas like Marin or East bay like Lafayette, Moraga, San Ramon.

The Belmont/San Mateo area. My parents and a sibling now live there. Seems like a nice place to live if you don't want to be right in the City.

It gets cold occasionally. You found one of the few days.

How long will you be there? What do you want to do? Are you staying on the West Side?

Sorry, San Jose is a huge, mostly run-down sprawling suburbia with little to recommend it.

There are a lot nicer places - most, really.

I suggest you check into all kinds of nice areas, too many to list. San Jose would be low on my list and is little difference than any other suburb in the country mostly.

I don't know a more diverse area anywhere than the bay area.

Think I've been there.

It's not that easy for Chinese food to stand out. One that does is Su Hong, Palo Alto.

I just basic things like 'Chow Fun no vegetables', but it's the best I've had.

Something about it is fresher, tastier.

Yeah, I was hoping for some nice 80F degree weather. It's actually going to be around 68F in Boston on Monday.

Well, I'm planning on meeting my cousin for lunch probably somewhere in Brentwood/Santa Monica. My hotel is in Culver City. I was planning on just driving all around, try to make some appt to see some rentals but if anything special was going on, it would be cool to check something out.

Capt Caveman, the weather is actually quite nice the last few days. Usually March is quite gloomy.

Well, do you want 55-75' all year long or 60-90' all year long?

A nice refreshing 79' in Burbank today before it cools to mid 60' next week

if you live and work in sm you could possibly bike. There are a lot of bike lanes in sm but there is also a shit ton of car traffic.

sm gets colder because of the ocean breeze. Same with sf though but warmer. SM is very nice. I just work there though 90404 <--best zip code in the country :) I live in 90048 and love that area as well.

Remember you have to both find jobs in the same area. If one of you is working in burbank and the other is working in one of the beach cities you will fucking hate your fucking miserable lives.

The key to enjoying LA is figuring out all the things you like and finding them in your little bit of it.

On the Westside... You can check out Santa Monica. Downtown Culver City is new and fun - check out Father's Office for burgers. Umami Burger...

The new mall/3rd Street Promenade is supposed to be nicer. You can go to the Little Tokyo in West LA, which is mostly restaurants.

As for rentals, if you're going to work in Santa Monica, unless you work really off, weird hours, stay west of the 405. It's a zoo around rush hour in the afternoon. Sometimes I just wanted to GO to Santa Monica (At a place at Wilshire and 20th) and pick up dinner, and come back to my apt in West LA. It's like 4 miles each I think. It's taken me over an hour before. More if it rains. And that's on every single side street I could think of - Santa Monica, Wilshire sucked, Ohio was my main alternate.

Just don't expect a lot. Some of them are older, and get more expensive as you get closer to the beach. I loved my rental in West LA, but it's East of the 405 (I wanted to be closer to UCLA) and some here freak out that you may have to pay 1700ish or more for a one bedroom. But I had TWO parking spots. TWO.

You can do Beverly Hills, Hollywood... kinda closeby.

Yeah, I was hoping it would last while I was there. I guess I'm bringing the cold when I fly in on Sunday.

So, you're saying that Burbank doesn't get too hot compared to just the area's just south of it?

I'm sorry that I've brought drought to the Bay Area, but you'll miss the nice weather when I'm gone...

As for Chinese food up here, I can't think of a place that make most things good, usually they'd have a signature dish that's good, the rest is meh... Actually, for a tourist trap, R&G Lounge got most things right, especially the Peking duck.

LA, in general is more than just Los Angeles or San Diego, but pretty much anywhere along the coast in between as well. The question is whether your pocket is deep enough to sustain you and your lifestyle.

lol wut? Burbank gets much warmer. Stay towards the costal regions if you want ideal weather year round. Seriously have 20 degree drops going from Central/East LA to West LA areas.

I've got a route that get me out of sm in 20 minutes. I'll kill you before I post it though.

But yes I kind of make my own hours and tend to flex my normal days into a 10pm to 7pm thing.

Burbank = borderline SFV, which is hotter than DTLA, which is hotter than Santa Monica.

I won't go farther into the valley than Burbank/North Hollywood, summer temps are just too ridiculous (100+).

Weather in Santa Monica is awesome, but you pay for it up the ass in the form of cost of living + traffic. I refuse to travel to Santa Monica during peak times.
