LA Clippers Owner Donald Sterling's Racist Rant Caught On Tape

I've had a slight change of opinion on the Sterling thing. Sterling's shady past was more known then I suspected. Example his suit for housing discrimination resulted in the largest fine in that kind of case in history. The capper was an article penned by Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Here are some of the highlights. Worth the read.

•2006: U.S. Dept. of Justice sued Sterling for housing discrimination. Allegedly, he said, “Black tenants smell and attract vermin.”
•2009: He reportedly paid $2.73 million in a Justice Dept. suit alleging he discriminated against blacks, Hispanics, and families with children in his rentals. (He also had to pay an additional nearly $5 million in attorneys fees and costs due to his counsel’s “sometimes outrageous conduct.”)
•2009: Clippers executive (and one of the greatest NBA players in history) sued for employment discrimination based on age and race.

I’m doing some whooping right now. Racists deserve to be paraded around the modern town square of the television screen so that the rest of us who believe in the American ideals of equality can be reminded that racism is still a disease that we haven’t yet licked.

What bothers me about this whole Donald Sterling affair isn’t just his racism. I’m bothered that everyone acts as if it’s a huge surprise. Now there’s all this dramatic and very public rending of clothing about whether they should keep their expensive Clippers season tickets. Really? All this other stuff I listed above has been going on for years and this ridiculous conversation with his girlfriend is what puts you over the edge? That’s the smoking gun?

He was discriminating against black and Hispanic families for years, preventing them from getting housing. It was public record. We did nothing. Suddenly he says he doesn’t want his girlfriend posing with Magic Johnson on Instagram and we bring out the torches and rope. Shouldn’t we have all called for his resignation back then?

Seems #2,3 with not much work would have discovered his checkered past but money ruled the day. Now that the tapes are our 2,3 are running for the hills.

Finally there are the predictable few who in this forum will look to anything to excuse the racists. 2,3,4 by no means excuse #1. Sterling played the part of massa running his plantation with his ni**ers and house ni**ers. He treated people that way. He is the primary villain but there are other bad actors.

Lastly I placed the girl #4 not because she is less of a money grubber then the rest but Sterling, Bundy, Ted Nugent et-al need the light of day shined on them

You have not the slightest inkling of what racism is. Sterling's comments were racism. The belief that another race is inferior to yours or that you are inherently superior to another race. Such that you shouldn't even be seen with them or it is ok to treat then as animals. Everything found in Sterling's comments.

Larry Johnson's views are a misguided effort to try to make up for what he beliefs is an inequality in society. That, unless black people control their own businesses they will never get a fair chance.

You and the Londo's on this board should just come out and admit what and who you are and stop all the pretense.

In other words: An old guy is racist, there are probably a few million of them in this country. Who cares? Do you want to know what else? 4 billion years of evolution has taught us that racism is a thing that protects our species. Lions hang out with Lions, Birds hang out with Birds, Monkeys hang out with Monkeys. Do we really expect this to disappear in a few generations? Maybe in a few million years racism will be gone, but not today. Diversity is strength? Name two strengths from diversity.

So why is that 4 out of the top 10 articles on CNN.com are about racism?

The NBA's job (besides operating a profitable league) is to ensure that owners don't discriminate in running the league, not that they have never discriminated.

Poor oppressed white men, only been running the world for the past several hundred years. Now people dare to say mean things if we hit our wives or openly, systematically discriminate against people because of their skin color! What do they want, for us to not beat our wives or systematically discriminate against people?!?

Jewish white male scientists are absolutely counted as white male scientists in every statistic ever taken, and are absolutely included in arguments that we need more diversity in science so that it's not nearly so much more a percentage of white men than they are a percentage of the population.

Maybe it's me getting older, but, I honestly don't see the difference between this and dating (esp. a girl you're not trying to marry). You do dinner and drinks ($100 or so), pretend you care what she is saying and hope for more. At least this way you're guaranteed sex and everyone understands what it is.

Edit: Unfortunately for me I enjoy the chase and feel women should pay me for sex.
