It all about coordination, team work. After that finding the best spot to employ your strategy in is key. I was having a hell of a time getting Bronze on diff maps with pubs, then I got an invite from my friends and we were able to hit 21:58 on gas station/No Mercy. We could have gone longer too, as after the 10:00 min mark no more tanks came, and we were only using pistols and no taking damage (barely any that is) but then one of my friends said he finger was getting tired from holding crouch and so he just took off and it all fell apart after that. If you guys are interested, I can post the details of the spot and strategy we used to hit this mark.

I'd like the hear people's times on Lighthouse, as that is the hardest survival map. The most I managed was 3 minutes and change, but I've only played the map once so I had no idea where things were and stuff.

4:33 on Lighthouse, with a two friends and a stranger, maybe 5th time I played it. I found I was coming closest to 4 min on the very top, but the 4:33 was actually with all of us positioned in front of the fireplace. Two tanks killed, then they managed to break through the wall to the left of the fp and it went downhill quick.

like i said earlier, 5:20 on a pub with random people for me. It was a decent team, took us a few tries, we did the downstairs room where you pull the lever for 2 waves before moving to the middle room with the hallway.

Anytime I try on the roof, it just ends badly.

I played Lighthouse last night for about an hour (first time with new patch). Our team was decent but not great and only one other guy was using a mic. Our best try out of about 8 was 5:30. That time I believe was when we were in the dark room with the bathroom off to the side. Most of the time we were only around 3 minutes. I agree the roof generally goes bad. The room with the broken stairway doesn't work too well, and the room with the generator and lever didn't work too well either!

Lots of fun though. Can't wait to try it more tonight and try some of the other maps.

Yes Survival is very fun. Seems it's the most fun I've had in L4D since it first came out but can't see it staying that way as there is still very little content. Waiting for the user created maps.

Just tried Versus on Dead Air with random people and out of both teams, survivors only made it to the saferoom once. There's so many good ambush spots, it's really tough playing survivors. My best lighthouse time is 4:30ish, I've had good luck with two on the tower and two on the roof. Any time I tried inside, all the walls got torn down on us.

I got over 7 minutes almost effortlessly on the train station one by running through the 'alarm' door and continuously flaming the small room that everyone has to run through.

Last Stand/lighthouse is definately the hardest one to do. My longest time is about 5:30 and that was a fluke. We tried to camp out the generator room, until all the walls blew up and someone set our entire stash of gas tanks/propane tanks on fire (stashed everyone in a corner; bad idea). We then hauled ass to the top of the lighthouse until being tank/smoker raped. Moving around seems to be the key, especially in getting an extra 2 minutes out of a screw up.

Ammo is also a major problem. You run out at the worst times, so you end up getting more when you can, and that kills you even quicker. Shotties are good at conserving it.

made it to 8:17 on lighthouse last night. the part where 2-3 tanks come at the same time with the 2 smokers and 2 hunters and boomer is killer. :p

Made it to 3:30 by throwing molotovs at my teammates from the top of the lighthouse and running around with the other single surviving teammate for a minute. We still gotta perfect our strategy.

My team got 11 minutes on the gas station part of No Mercy and it didn't record the achievement.:|

I gotta take a break from Survivor for a day or two. My right, index finger hurts from mashing fire while using pistols. Trying to avoid freaking ammo runs, grrr...

Man, i am enjoying Survival :)

30+ minutes on No Mercy - Gas Station

We actually could have likely gone on forever, since well, we somehow discovered a glitch in which the area we were defending from stopped getting visits from special infected around the 20 minute mark (no tanks either).

So as it was just zombies, we pretty much could handle them forever...got kinda boring though, so we stopped after we hit 30 mins.

What I'm actually hoping is that we see better survival techniques than hiding in the closet come out of survivor mode.

Good luck with that. By far the most effective strategy in the game is still exposing yourself to as few attack angles as possible while preserving access to ammunition and health. On some maps this is more feasible than others.

Well it's been known for quite awhile that while closets create great choke points, they completely fuck over your visibility and accessibility, there's not much you can do against a poorly angled boomer and if a single tank makes it to the closet before you leave it you are basically dead. Plus, if the melee fatigue ever makes it to CO-OP/single player then closets become worthless. So I do believe there are tactics that, while possibly harder to pull off, would be much more successful methods of fighting.

Eh, they've blocked off pretty much anything like a closet in the maps.

That doesn't mean i won't still find the best corner though :p

The whole moving to new spots thing to survive = doesn't really work.

There's generally one best spot on most levels, & once you find that one, you camp out till you need to do an ammo/supplies run, & then race back.

Moving around too much results in epic failure basically every time, so unless there's a nearby alternative hangout, i've found it's best to hang out in one area till there's a slight break, & then book it out to get ammo/health, & then get back ASAP...eventually you won't get back, & then it's all over.

lol ya that is usually how my team dead. we are doing fine in one place, then we all out of ammo, so we run for the ammocash, and on the way back we got ambush by smoker and hunter.

if you can find a good chokepoint, you need to use pistols except for taking down a tank.

On warehouse just got a 13 minute showing doing just that.

Honestly, I don't think valve play tests anything all that much. And they certainly don't test their patches much since its not unusual for them to release one with a show stopping bug or break performance for half the players.

The trouble with steam is its so easy to quick fix your fuckups that there isn't a lot of incentive to make an effort to avoid them in the first place.

The L4D DLC seems very polished. It feels like they put a lot of effort into adapting the maps for survival.

I'm enjoying the challenge of survival mode. Even with random guys it has been pretty fun, and got a couple of silvers even doing that, but it takes pretty good chemistry and teamwork to do well.

There is a natural tendency for people to make plans up front such as "then we'll go here and then we'll do this, then such and such will happen..." etc. It's cool to try out plans, but it's obvious how easily they get broken up by an infected combo. Knowing the areas of the map by name is a more effective idea, so that you can respond, change plans, and better communicate in as few words as possible.

My worst peeve is for people to get pounced and a second later have a tantrum because you haven't rescued them yet (as if there were no bounce back!) "OMFG GUYS WTH HUNTER OMGZ!". It only confuses communication when people narrate everything that happens to them.

If you are playing this mode with people who don't notice that you've been pounced or smoked, you're already screwed. I always ask new teammates to please just say "down!" or "smoked!" if they feel they have to say anything about an attack. In my opinion there is more useful stuff to be communicated most of the time.

And btw, the new versus inclusions are also appreciated :)
