I don't understand why they waited so long to release the other two versus campaigns. You can play them right now although they are not perfect just use console to call a vote callvote changemap airport.

A year late? Did they promise it before release or something? The game only came out in late november.

Anyway, I see Killing Floor is an upcoming retail release on steam. It was original a great, but not very well known UT2004 mod. It's a similar kind of theme.

The morons on steam forums were quick to slam it as a "left 4 dead ripoff". If we are to assume left 4 dead some how invented zombies in video games, that does not change the fact the mod was released in 2005.

DLing now. Just finished:). On one hand, I got it quickly. On the other, most people don't have it yet.

This. It's going to be hard to stay another couple of hours. I haven't played L4D for weeks. I'm really hoping this Survivor mode gets me interested in it again. I was really hoping for new co-op campaigns since I don't play versus, but this might do.

just played about 5 rounds of survivor mode. Pretty tough.

Our longest time was only 5:15 or something. we did it on last stand.
Perspective is bronze medal is 4 minutes, silver is 7 and gold is 10...I don't understand how you can get gold.

It is intersting figuring out the best places to go, you can't stay in the same spot forever because walls come down and you run out of supplies.

Yea I haven't played it since January. This should freshen it up for a while until people start making some good maps. I need some damn variety in this game.

16:46 on the generator room, /flex L4D

so far I'd say survival mode is quite good, more than I expected it to be. Much more intense than co-op or versus.

I've only tried Survival Mode in Last Stand so far, I've tried maybe four or five times, the best we (me and three other friends) managed to do was to survive for a mind-blowing (sarcastic, of course) 4 minutes or so, I think it was 4:33, and we've had two Tanks within that period, without counting the 6+ Smokers, the same number of Hunters and I think two or three Boomers. I had a LOT of fun, it's very challenging, and I do mean VERY challenging, at least for me anyway, maybe I suck, I don't know, but my friends are much better at me at L4D in general and they thought it was just crazy tough. But it IS intense and very amusing.

12:27 on last stand is my crew's record so far. Coordination is key, even more so than campaign. We had to chop through over 11 tanks to get there.

Survivor is very hard for pub because most people don't coordinate/listen.

I never knew how annoying smokers were. Tanks are actually pretty killable, but the Smokers completely mess up your plans, and take out a lot of people.

They made the smokers tougher, I think. I played survivor mode for about two hours tonight, and I'm pleasantly surprised. It's intense; and even though it's mostly the same maps, they function completely different than they did before and a lot of the old strategies don't work. I was playing with a bunch of people I don't play with much, and our best score was 6.40.20 on No Mercy Hospital. The light house map is pretty tough, we had trouble making it much past 4 minutes.

I still have to try the new versus campaigns, but that'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Been playing Death Toll where the Crane is. Best so far is 9:46

No real good places to defend from on the Crane part except being on the Crane but that goes away quickly.

ya survivor is pretty fun. my best time for last stand is about 5 mins, tank is not an issue, but those somkers are. freaking 4 smokers show up at the same time, grabbing all 4 of us :|

Yeah, you cannot be worried about using your supplies, use them or lose them. Valve also intentionally placed ammo/guns/health in spots that aren't necessarily the best to defend, so the key is finding several good spots you can make a stand at that have a decent path to supplies when needed.

While I'm sure it won't be like this all the time, there were points where it kept ramping up in intensity for the first 8 minutes or so, but then would actually drop off immensely with a huge break in the tanks sent in at about the 8:30 mark where we basically just fended off meager hoards and relatively coasted to 4 straight golds before we decided to call it quits. Granted, once the 10 minute mark was hit, that is when we'd really start to get really hit again, but my point is that if you can make it over the 8 minute hump or so, getting to 12 or 15 minutes really isn't that much harder.

Really gotta focus on gang banging the tanks though, having at least 3 shotties on most levels will help, and you need to take advantage of the shotty's multiplier damage (the closer you are, the more damage dealt), on the really close quarters 4 shotties can down two tanks before they get off more than one or two punches. Most levels you'll want to use grenades (including molys) as hoard control to allow you to focus on tanks - the trick of using a moly on a tank is no longer prudent as you need to kill the tanks FAST, whereas on campaign/vs. mode you can light up a tank and then just run until it burns to death, and tanks and hoards in those modes are pretty much never at the same time unless you're boomered.

Pretty stunning that it's taken as long as it has to release this. I mean, it's cool, but honestly, there's not a lot of new content there at all, I feel like Valve has like one guy working up DLC for what is one of my favorite games in years, and only when he's not working on voice acting for Episode 3.

They need to release the SDK already, open the floodgates for user made content and then we won't have to sit around wishing Valve would do more, the community will provide the new content.

Well there's long been talk of 'Valve time.' The fact is that putting out something good takes time and Valve play-tests the crap out of things and runs in-depth analysis of their maps. I haven't played the two new VS campaigns, but if they're balanced and fun I'm happy.

I played survival lighthouse with 3 other clannies and we never made it past 3:40. played for a good two hours too trying out different spots and different strats. Damn the smokers! For some reason we kept getting 3 hunters with 3 smokers at the same time.... then just horde.. then we'd get smokers and hunters... then just horde. It happened like that for a good 4-5 rounds. One instance I was pounced by a hunter and before any of my guys knew what was going on two of them got pulled by smokers and the fourth got blasted off the cliff into the water by the now incoming tank. Good times!
