Hey skace, not to butt in and be rude but when you "disect" someone's post like that, it appears as if you're questioning the credibility of everything that person said. It causes a lenghty response which in turn triggers another lengthy response when you probably could've said all you wanted in one paragraph.
It's cool to have different opinions, but when you reply that way it's not very friendly. :(

what is all this nonsense you always here about a kyro2 or a GTS not being good enough anymore in 6-8 months. I'm still playing all recent games at 1078*768 with the ancient voodoo3 3000 and having no problems with it whatsoever. Do I really need TL to enjoy my games??? Not really. 32bit then? It would be nice of course, but my glorified 16 bit looks ok to me. I can imagine some people would want to play at1600*1200,but I think that for most gamers this isn't even an option. Certainly not for me since my 17" only supports up to 1200*1000 (or something like that). Is a GTS, MX, Radeon a necessity right now? Not according to my experience. Will the GTS be a necessity in 8 months time? I think I will probably still have my voodoo, or maybe I will just have upgraded to something like the kyro2. I guess I am not quite normal being completely happy with my ancient piece of equipment.

Maybe someone can clear this up. On PriceWatch the KyroII is starting to pop up. There seems to be two different cards, 3D Prophet 4000 for $89 and the 3D Prophet 4500 for $184. What gives here? According to Hercules' website, there is no such thing as the 4000 model. PriceWatch does show the 4000 as having 32MB mem. and the 4500 having 64MB, also the MSRP for the 4500 is supposed to be only $150.
It does say the cheaper card uses the 4000XT chipset and the other is the KyroII. So, you may think that it is an older card, but the ETA is the same as the 4500!

It is not at all uncommon to see vendors try to sell a card that is being hyped up for a little over MSRP - that is what is going on here.

The 4000 is based on the Kyro 1 w/ 32 MB (lower clock speed)
The 4500 is based on the Kyro 2 w/ 64 MB

Prices vary further is you opt for TV out.

When the card ships, you will see vendors charging what they are supposed to charge. Wait for vendors to actually have it b4 you buy it.

My $.02

One thing which does concern me about the Kyro II is drivers. I haven't any experience of the Kyro 1 but the original PowerVR cards were badly let down by substandard drivers and a lack of support, both by the software industry and the manufacturers. It does make me a little hesitant about buying one.

I admit some of the results look very good but I think it's a case of wait and see what happens with the drivers.

I agree with Saphoo. I have a very new system with the exception of my video card which is an AGP VooDoo 3 Card. I run every game that I can get my hands on very well. Perhaps having a 1.2GHZ+ cpu helps and a ton of ram. But I dont think that a GTS will be obsolete in 6-8 months. Hell I still haven't given up on my VooDoo 3 yet. I dont know if Ill wait for GeForce3 to come down I may just go with a Pro or Ultra in the next 6 months. VooDoo3 suits me fine for this exact moment tho. Dont buy into all the hype.. ooh... get that extra few FPS.. why have a game at over 100 fps? My 2Cents

I wonder, is the KYROII shipped in the US now ? In Denmark KYROII is shipped at april the 11th.
I need some 'more private' benchmark-tests before bying.
Where can I get theese tests ? I need tests, not for QUAKE,Mercedes-Benz or Serious Sam but specially for Microsoft Flightsimulator FS2K - known as a 'CPU-killer', but perhaps the KYROII video-card will get even better performance in my new AMD1.3gHz-configuration.

Need your help !!!

best regards

Zucchini - nobody really claims that the Kyro2 is the equal of the GF3. It is just a "bandaid" solution for today's games until the prices drop, and they will - eventually on the highly programmable DX8 compliant cards...

Now for a somewhat atopical rant...

On a side note - I'm really glad to see that the graphics jihad is alive and well. (former)3dfx zealots being crapped on by nVidiots being poo-poo'd by ATImalosers... Ever start to think that maybe a sense of perspective a somehow slipping away? Then it probably is...

Sometimes I wonder if the power shortage in the People's Republic of California is due to nVidiots sitting up all night in their mom's basement waxing poetic about their framerates, as their PC whirs away the countless kilowatthours.

If one needs to spend $500 to create a better reality for themselves - (or feel better about themselves for whatever reason) perhaps they should rethink their existence in toto, and reconstruct their own reality - it can be done.

The Kyro2 fills a niche - as a value card. It is not a panacea. It is also not the GF2 Ultra. Hell - it may very well suck (depends on what Anand's and others review of the final board).

The GF3 very well may be the key to happiness, enlightenment, and a more courageous "manhood," desired by those afflicted with "scaredey wang" - but until it is more affordable - no thanks...

BTW - I am a self professed ATImaloser... Will be buying a Kyro2 out of curiosity more than anything else...

Live free or die... Thank you...

you sound a bit biased yourself. You have to realize that even most "nvidiots" didn't buy their cards for $400+.. there were always lower model nvidia cards:p

I don't get the loyalty.. whoever delivers gets the bucks:p and so far nvidia has been pretty good on delivering.

as for filling the value market.. ati does that with their radeon le/ve, nvidia with their mx..

so its all a bunch of bs until we see some good stable kyro II drivers with some benchmarks. Just wondering if it will do well against a geforce 3 mx or radeon 2 le which would be loaded with features.

Agreed on the bs part, as I stated earlier in my diatribe.

As an admitted pooper - how many times have you pooped? If the answer is more than once, than you are a habitual pooper. There is help for you too.

My point, and I did have one, was that the several aforementioned factions have a tendency to crap on one another's posts... nVidia afficionados are by far the worst in that regard. I don't even think that the point can be intelligently disproved... Check the forums and count for yourself.

Also - the nVidiot rant was not solely directed at those who paid $400 for their cards... It is even directed at the unwashed masses that paid top (or bottom) dollar for a GTS. Just singled them out because they make the easiest targets, by virtue of their "vocalness."

The last rant was directed at all who populate the forums, including myself. Reread it and appreciate its technicolor brilliance. :D

I see you're for San Jose - hope you weren't offended by the People's Republic of California swipe. But it is ironically fitting, don't you agree?

Advocate-

I fear that your intellegence and grasp of the vocabulary are tipically wasted on those whom you are trying to debate with.

It is alot to ask for these people who disagree with you to actually read your post, you can't really expectthem to comprehend it to?

Well said Sir(or Ma'am) your insight is frightning!!

Sorry for my previous verbose posts. I had just finished reading some Supreme Court decisions, and the pretenciousness kinda rubs off.

On a side note, I'm sorta disappointed that nobody wanted to take issue with the People's Republic of California thing... ;)

Long live big power companies!!! :)
