Yes, it takes place thousands of years before the movies, no worries about plot holes left by them.

I've been meaning to play the KOTOR series, but I'm not really familiar with Star Wars (haven't seen a single movie to completion) Will the game still be entertaining?

KOTOR is my second favorite game of all time, right behind Ocarina of Time![]()
Man, earlier this year I bought an old console and Ocarina of Time just to see what it got the highest rating ever on pcrankings for, and it's practically unplayable.
I haven't got all that far into it, but maybe you can say something about why it's a good game to help. I can't even easily describe where I stopped playing, in a few tunnels.

What a coincidence, I had nothing planned for this weekend and didn't feel like going out either so I reinstalled KotOR1 and played it to completion. What a great game. Played through this game 3 times before this I think and I'm still finding new dialogue.
I really like how well developed most of the characters are! I might play KotOR 2, not sure yet. I like definitely like how KotOR 2 had more gadgets/force powers/workbench/lab station, but I don't feel that the characters had as compelling a backstory compared to KotOR 1.
Shame though, because I felt the combat/UI was much better in KotOR2. If only the story/way it unfolded was as good as 1. I definitely recommend any avid RPG player to at least try it out, I feel its one of the, if not the best game of the decade as mentioned by venkman.

Yup excellent game. Too bad Obsidian took the helm of KOTORII.
It uses a different engine. NWN = Aurora engine, KotOR = Odyssey Engine. I am sure that they share a good bit of code, being they were both developed by Bioware.Originally posted by: murphy55d
is it built on the NWN engine?
Somewhat, the UI is horrible in KotOR. NWN1 and 2 have a much better UI than KoTOR. It is a shame there were no mods to correct the UI.As someone who has played NWn1/2 extensively, does it have a similar 'feel'

Umm, ok I just started playing this game. One of my roommates has it.
I stopped playing about 15 minutes in.
How is this the best game of the decade? The movement controls suck, using the inventory is a pain in the ass. Battles feel almost turn-based and you can't move when you are fighting. And why does it pause the game when you see an enemy?
I quit playing when my guy wouldn't move. He was just standing there and I could look around, but that was it. I took that as an opportunity to exit the game and never play it again.

IMO, I thought the combat was TOO EASY in KOTORII.
Once you get Force Storm, you will EASILY rape anything in the game in just 2-3 Storms.
