Just cruised over to photoalley and checked out the Kodak 4800. Their thing as of three minutes ago was $599 less $100 MIR less $50 (photoalley special instant rebate) equals $449 plus shipping and tax as applicable.

Did the same for Wal-Mart thru ebates and found $499 less 3% ebates less 100 Kodak MIR equals $385 plus about $10 of shipping and $25 tax.

Am I reading these wrong? Isn't photoalley getting to $499 WITH the MIR, while Wal-Mart starts at $499 and drops to $399 with MIR?

Please advise.

hychka..

You're close. You'll pay about $499 at both Walmart and PhotoAlley (PA; after PA's $100 discount). But you should save a few $$$ via PhotoAlley (PA).

You mentioned a "$50 (photoalley special instant rebate)." Add a $.05 item to PA's $599.95 to get to $600. You THEN qualify for a $100 PA discount (not $50). If you can't find a $.05 item, here's a $2.99 roll of film.

Finally: 1) PA offers FREE ground shipping ($10 at Walmart); 2) Only those from CA, NJ and UT pay tax; and, 3) ebates offers 5% for PA, but 3% for Walmart.

So, as I said earlier:

$ 600 - DC4800 (+ some cheap item)
-$100 - PhotoAlley discount
-$100 - Kodak Rebate
-$ 25 - 5% ebates rebate
==========================

$375 - shipped free (+ tax if applicable)

Well, thank you one and all for your help!

My daughter's Kodak 4800 has been ordered and is on the way.

Now for a deal on a bigger memory.

hychka...

From another thread: 64mb Viking CF for about $48 (after MIR; don't know shipping/tax).

Newegg -- Viking Compact Flash. Search for "compactflash" then scroll down the page (can't link to it directly).

$20 Viking Rebate

Anything at or about $1 per mb for CF has been a good deal. But as you're probably aware, prices of all types of memory are dropping fast. Better deals **could** be around the corner.

Also note this AnandTech thread: Onvia: $83 expansion kit (inc. battery/charger/case) or $66 (battery/charger)

hychka (and others)...

Here's an interesting tidbit about LI batteries (from www.dpreview.com, mentioned earlier in this thread). Notice the HUGE difference in the # of pictures Toshiba's battery allows, if you can find it.

>>>I've had a DC4800 for a week or so now. Really REALLY like the picture
>>>quality but am getting only about 18-20 3.1 compressed pix per battery
>>>charge (power save on, flash off).... Anyone know where to buy just the
>>>battery alone? Thanks

>I'm using Toshiba Lithium Ion Battery Pack PDR-BT2. They are identical
>in size but have a higher capacity of 1300mAh at 3,7V compared to the
>Kodak KLIC-3000 (3,7V -1.100mAh) and cost much less. Output abt. 280-
>300 pictures, 3.1 compressed per battery load.

QUESTION: Could faster CF memory account for some of this difference (e.g., 10x versus 4x CF speed)? Can the difference between 18-20 and 280-300 pix be attributed simply to batteries?

are ALL type I CF cards compatible? I read someone's post somewhere that said that either the viking or kingston card he had "didn't fit". I want to get the viking by newegg 64mb. but I want to make sure it fits first.

Bump ... just a reminder that PhotoAlley's $100 off $600 discount expires tomorrow (3/13). (Another discount may be available in 1-2 weeks.)

If you're in the market for a digicam, you can grab the DC4800 for about $375 instead of $600. Details and links are in earlier messages - this thread.

Anybody getting "confirmation" e-mails from PhotoAlley?

I haven't and I'm a little suspicous as that was the first warning camerasound gave that they wouldn't honor the Nikon Coolpix deal.

I received a confirmation email from photoalley the day after I ordered. My camera should be arriving today.

Just a quick note: I think the exerpt about the toshiba battery from dpreview.com is a bit misleading as that thread seems to actually focus on the probability that that guy's battery is defective. Most of the others who posted there stated that their Kodak battery produces more pictures than the 18-20 pix the one guy gets.

Most seem to agree that the Kodak, Ricoh and Toshiba batteries are identical except for their markings. However, it does seem that you can get the Toshiba for around $40, making it a much better deal.

i have not received confirmation email either. i contacted photoalley customer service (1-800-222-9409) and spoke with karen. she said my order was processed and the kodak dc4800 will ship out today. she also confirmed my card was charged the correct amount for $502.

I would not worry about PhotoAlley, I've ordered from them several times and always received product quickly and packed well. I ordered some of the Kodak 4800s 3/5/01 to take advantage of the 15% off sale and got them 3/8 or 3/9. I did get email for order the next day and email for shipping as well. They have been first rate with me.

What is the best deal for the Kodak DC4800 in California?

Photoalley charges tax for California, and without their $100 off $600, they are more expensive than other places. I checked my local Walmarts, and they don't have any in stock.

I was thinking about Buydig.com because they have it for under $500, but I don't know if the rebate would apply.. Anyone have any info on them? I checked them out at resellerratings, and they look decent.

Thanks.

Did you try walmart.com thru ebates? When I tried last week it would have been $499.99 plus sales tax plus about $10 of shipping less $100 Kodak MIR less $15 from ebates.com (whenever they get around to paying up).

I added in a 4pack of AA batteries for $1.99.
Wonder if they'll let me borrow it for our honeymoon. :)

Walrus:

Is this $150 rebate combinable with the Kodak rebate?

Also, what do you mean by $599 + $450?

Bit the bullet and ordered one late Monday night, but Photoalley says they are backordered and won't have any in for at least a week..

Walrus (and others)...

Circuit City's deal is:

$ 600 List Price
-$ 50 Circuit City Rebate (You must buy between and 3/11/01 and 3/17/01)
-$100 Kodak Rebate
===========================
$450 (+ tax; + s/h - ???)

PhotoAlley's $375 deal (after ebates/Kodak/PhotoAlley discounts and free ground shipping) saves $75 (17%) more.

i ordered from photoalley on Saturday night.
Called in on Monday and the lady said it would ship out that day.

I checked tonight online, and the website says my order is backordered.

This is complete BS. I am going on spring break in 9 days and need this camera.
