No problem Unclebud. This camera really interests me, as I learned how to take photos with a Pentax MG aperture priority camera in high school. The only thing I don't like about my DC280 is the lack of manual control and I think the DC4800 bridges some of that gap. The marriage between Digital and 35mm is still in the future, but the DC4800 offers more features than the average person will use, which opens the door to learn more.
I really liked the idea that I could control the aperture to change the depth of field, and the fact that you can control the shutter speed to actually take night photos if you want. Obviously the Nikon 990 has more features, but for the price the Kodak kicks it's @ss and it's affordable to most of us. 6 months ago I was dreaming of a 3 megapixel camera and thinking it would be out of my reach for quite some time. Now I can get on when I sell my DC280. When I finally take the plunge it will be my third Kodak digicam and I have had great luck with the first two, so I hope I am as satisfied with the DC4800 when it finally arrives at my door.

Maverick: I heard that if you have a D290 you can trade up to a DC4800 for $250 at the Kodak store. Not sure if that applies to your model as well or if they have other deals for your model.

I heard battery life is poor on kodak. I am going to China in a few mths do they sell universal adapters?

The Kodak trade-up deal sucks, as they only offered $200.00 for a DC280, which is exactly the same thing as the DC3400. Avg price for a 3400 is around 400 bucks, and I paid 400 for my DC280. I figure I can sell it for 300 clams and order a DC4800 for less than 100 bucks difference after the rebate.
Surprisingly, Kodak.com itself might be a decent place to get a spare battery if the Toshiba one isn't in stock.

Unless you know for sure that the power in China is the same as ours, I would not buy any electronic adapters there. Hopefully they aren't as stupid as America and use 220 or 230 power, not 110 like we do, which is extremely wasteful.
Here are the specs for nominal power in China.
You will need a good power convertor before you leave to convert the 240 volt back to 110. I would suggest some type of surge supressor added to that, just to be on the safe side, as I don't think Kodak's Tech Support is going to look upon you kindly. "Oh, by the way, when I took my Digicam to China, it fried the AC adaptor and the camera. Is that covered under warranty?"

As far as the battery, I keep hearing that you should really get the rapid charger as it takes 4 hrs to charge with the camera but only 1 hr with the charger. Also, it is really small and portable. What I did was buy the battery + charger + tripod + CF reader from Amazon & then use one of those $20 off $100 coupons that everyone seems to be getting in their mailboxes. Here's the details:

Does PhotoAlley offer $100 off coupons like this often? My problem is that my current computer is so old that it doesn't have any USB ports, so if I bought the camera now I wouldn't have any way to use it until I build my new computer next month.
