The new NFL is all about exciting 90 second game-winning drives, but I'll never get purposely milking the clock as you're still outside the red zone. Sometimes it's possible because you drove down to the 1 yard line too quickly but usually you need to first worry about scoring. Unless your defense is so piss poor it can't prevent the other team from answering back.
SF vs Seattle was pretty intense. I saw a little bit of Kaep's press conference on our local 49er station. I always assumed he didn't see the dbs on some of his risky pass attempts, but it seems he actually does and just has supreme confidence in his skills. On his first int, he said he saw the db and just didnt think he could get it. And he's not just talking crap, because the exact same play came up on the last drive and he did the same thing, and it was successful. On his last int, he saw Crabtree with single coverage and just said he was going to him. I think in both cases if he was playing against a different team with regular sized dbs, he would have made completions. Anyways, I dont think people should be too hard on him. Confidence can be managed. If he doesnt run for 130 yards I dont think SF scores at all.
I'm not sure what's worse here. Being locked in on your primary and throwing that awful 1st INT.

Or not accepting you made that obvious mistake and claiming you saw the DB and felt you could beat him one on one. If he saw the game film of that play, there's just no way you could defend it. And when he later hit the sideline play, it wasn't the same thing at all. He threw a nice ball into a soft spot in the zone coverage.

The game-ending pick was costly because it sure felt like they were about to score, but I can only fault Kap for throwing at Richard Sherman. The throw itself was on target, and having your #1 receiver in single coverage against a scrambling defense usually is a good situation. Sherman had to make a fantastic play and if it's not picked off after a controlled deflection, the Niners still have a couple more chances. I'm still wondering why it was a linebacker who was there to secure the INT.

My prediction, Kaepernick's two brain cells find each other and the `Niners pull one out at the wire.

Oh so close, I guess those cells couldn't connect after all. Damn, that's one stupid SOB. $50M arm, $50M legs, 50¢ head. :p

Look at 6:35 vs 7:10. Its essentially the same play. At least the same route and same coverage.

Anyways, I think he will be different next year, because he is hopefully learning that he just can't lock onto one receiver. If he hasn't realized it after this game, I'm sure Harbaugh will make that point in the offseason. He can be so frustrating at times. That one legged jump pass to Boldin was spectacular, but that also should have been picked. If one of the taller DBs was on Boldin it probably would have, cause Thomas is 5-10 and he got a hand on the ball.

Such potential. Its somewhat understandable why a young guy with talent like that would think he could make any throw. If he can improve is decision making he will be pretty unstoppable. I think he's just too young with too much confidence.

I really expect him to get better.
He needs maturity, which will come with experience and to really work on his passing game.

For straight Coverage rankings (not including defending the rush), here is the top 10 by PFF:
1 Brandon Boykin PHI 635 9.1 -3.4 14.3 -3.5 1.7 4-0 0 2 3
2 Vontae Davis IND 951 15.5 0.0 12.8 -1.0 3.7 6-0 0 0 0
3 Brent Grimes MIA 1132 16.4 -0.1 12.0 -0.5 5.0 2-0 0 1 2
4 Darrelle Revis TB 972 18.2 0.4 11.3 2.1 4.4 1-0 1 0 0
5 Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie DEN 787 13.0 -0.1 11.0 -1.4 3.5 5-0 0
6 Richard Sherman SEA 1003 12.4 0.1 8.8 1.1 2.4 9-0 0 1 2
7 Leodis McKelvin BUF 947 8.6 -0.1 8.7 -4.2 4.2 3-0 0 0 0
8 Desmond Trufant ATL 1022 12.2 -0.7 8.3 1.2 3.4 7-1 0 0 1
9 Tramaine Brock SF 678 9.0 0.0 8.2 -1.1 1.9 1-0 0 0 0
10 Byron Maxwell SEA 494 9.3 0.0 7.9 -0.8 2.2 5

Sherman finished 6th at +8.8. Yeah, he did great this year but not quite the best like he's chirping.

Wow, Vontae Davis must have been REALLY good earlier in the season, because he seemed to be really struggling towards the end of the season and into the playoffs. Anyway, I hope someone tweets that table to Sherman's page.

Sherman made a complete ass out of himself on national TV for making a play that was good, but one that most good CBs could've made. It was a poor decision on Kaepernick's part to throw that pass and I was shocked at the lack of urgency on their last drive. Had they hurried it up more, they would've saved quite a bit of time and probably been able to dink and dunk their way into the red zone before taking shots into the end zone.

Saw this comment on an ESPN Sherman article. Though it was hilarious:

Because of Richard Sherman's comments, Roger Goodell has fined James Harrison 100,000

Good games yesterday. That would have been a hell of an ending if Crabtree would have caught the pass and then SF did a 2 point conversion...

Here is my big concern:

This Superbowl could be one of the most epic in history. Monster defense vs monster QB. Peyton is living out a storybook season. Seattle is the scariest team out there. Lynch is a human highlight reel. But....

But the refs are going to fuck it up. Just like they have fucked up every big game so far. Missing calls is one thing, making blatantly wrong calls is another. Its obvious that each ref has a favorite going into these games and they influence the games based on that.

I have no hope that the Superbowl will be a good game to watch.

Stat update after yesterday's game: Peyton Manning is 3-1 in AFC Championships and most importantly, 2-1 against Tom Brady.

Russell Wilson and the Seahawks must be salivating when they look over and see Jack Del Rio calling the defenses. I really hope John Fox steps in and "assists." :D

It will be an interesting game. My Colts beat both of these teams but had a far harder time against Seattle. Denver is #1 in offense and #19 in defense, whereas Seattle is #1 in defense and #17 on offense, so it has the making of an epic battle. I think weather will play a big factor -- if the weather is bad to the extent that it seriously hurts passing, you have to think Seattle is the favorite. If the weather is like it was in Denver yesterday, I think Denver has to be the favorite.

Also, I agree with the comments on officiating. It has been TERRIBLE this year and I'd be hard pressed to remember a year this bad. Bring back the replacement refs!

Is there no solace to be found in watching it merely to determine whose team the refs are pulling for? ;)

This will be a tough game for me to root for...I love the Indianapolis Colts and I love Peyton Manning. (Like, "would have his man-babies" love him). Even named my youngest son Peyton...

But I was born and raised in Portland, and currently live in northern Washington, so I have an affinity for the Seahawks as well.

First world problems...

Side note...

You think Irsay has any regrets?

No, not at all. Irsay could not pass up Luck in the draft -- he had to take him when he had the chance. Luck was going to be a Colt regardless. So the question becomes -- how long do you sit Luck behind Manning and can you really afford to do that from a cap perspective? Even with Manning, I'm not sure the Colts would've gotten any farther in the playoffs the last two years. Yeah, if their defense kept playing like it did the first five or six weeks of this season, they had a shot at the SB with Manning. But I'd argue that if the defense had continued to play at that level, Luck would've gotten them there too. Sure, Luck made some mistakes in the playoffs but against KC they overcame them and against NE, the Colts were there in the fourth quarter until Blount ran over them. The NE-Colts game was not the blowout the score indicated by any stretch; the Patriots blew them out in the fourth but it was a very close game otherwise.

Keep in mind, Manning wasn't the only one who was let go. The Colts experienced roster turnover over 50% (I forgot the exact number but it was higher than 50%) from Manning's last year to Luck's first year. They did this to clean up the cap and personnel mess the Polians left them.

Don't be surprised if Manning hangs it up after this year, especially if they win the Super Bowl. If that happens, that just further vindicates Irsay's decision.

I loved Chris Carter's response to Doug Baldwin's "calling him out" about disrepsecting the Seahawk's WRs:

"Why do you think they signed the guy [Percy Harvin] for all that money? Because they didn't think you could make a play".

and..

"Google me...see if I am in the Hall of Fame".

LOL classic ownage.

Yup. Two poor decisions plus the fumble. Gotta get ready for the next season now. Looking forward already.

I'm bitter but we got beat by a team playing better defense.

That said, go Broncos. I can't root for a team like the Seahawks after their fans threw Skittles when Bowman was being carted off. And Sherman is a grade A douchebag.
Bullshit. SF defense played miles better than Seattle did. The strip sack was a good play by them but the first pick was a bad throw by Kaepernick. He made the same play to Crabtree on the next drive with a better throw. The thing that grinds my gears about the last pick isn't the pick itself as much as the clock management and how it was all rushed. Just foolish to do that with 2 timeouts in your pocket and just made first down. Spike the fucking ball, don't play games trying to prevent Seattle from getting substitutions in.

As for Sherman's post game meltdown, I just feel bad for the guy. Just won a trip to the Super Bowl and he's more angry than happy.

The refs may f it up. But what you should be most worried about is the weather. If it's snowing, extremely windy, etc. then it's an obvious advantage for Seattle since they're built as a run first team. Let's hope for unseasonably warm(ish) weather in 2 weeks.

I'm not a Seattle or Denver fan, I just want a good game.
