Kirkland Signature 20 year Single Malt scotch whisky

Lol I love Kirk-sig. Their branded alcohol isn't bad. The Kirk-sig beer is decent, the vodka is fine for mixing. 20 year Scotch? hmmm.. I doubt they planned 20 years ago to make Kirk-sig Scotch, I wonder where it is sourced.

Oh, so much this. 🙁

It took two attempts, but Washington voters finally approved it last year. Unsurprisingly, Costco (headquartered in WA) was a big backer of getting the law changed! Easiest decision I ever made on a ballot. 😎

I haven't seen the 20 yr yet, but Macallan did their 18 last year. I seem to remember that priced closer to $100 than $50 though.

I'm not a big Scotch guy, but have splurged for the 18-year old stuff before and it was pretty good. The typical 12-year old stuff, decidedly WAY worse. I've had JW Blue Label ($125/bottle) before and it packed a punch...just like the $40/bottle Bourbon I typically drink (Knob Creek/Woodford Reserve) so I'm not the best judge of "Great Scotch." But it sure seems like Kirkland has arranged quite a nice supplier of their store-brand booze.

Costco/Kirkland branded wine, beer, liquor are quite good because they're sourced either from well-known brands or local brewers. For example, I know around here in the Bay Area, a lot of the Kirkland beer is brewed by Gordon Biersch, because I did a brewery tour about two years ago at the San Jose GB and they had huge pallets of Kirkland beer just sitting there waiting to be loaded onto a delivery truck. My wife and I pick up bottles of the Kirkland Pinot Noir and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, which both seem to be great values, by the caseload for everyday drinking and parties. The Kirkland liquors are also great. I think a few years ago there was a rumor going around that the Kirkland vodka 1.5L bottle was going for $29.99 and was pretty much the same as Grey Goose.

This. I love Kirkland booze. Ive tried many, but the small batch bourbon and the french vodka are my main stays. I wouldnt hesitate trying the scotch if I were a scotch drinker.

It'd be nice if they said who their supplier is, especially if they are trying to appeal/break in to the high end segment. Most buyers going to costco aren't looking to buy 20 year old scotch, let's be honest. They're going to go with a well name brand at their liquor store.

The liquor lobby is one of the most loathsome band of protectionist crooks around. I wish we could get a similar issue on the ballot in Maryland. I'd love to tell the liquor mafia to go to hell and I'd laugh when their shitty, overpriced stores are driven out of business by Costco.

Costco introduced Kirkland Signature as its house brand in 1995. Let's see, it is 2012 now and this is supposedly a 20 year old single malt scotch? The math don't add up man. 😵

BTW-I'm a vodka snob and Kirkland vodka tastes nothing like Grey Goose.

from the SD thread, first page. not sure if it's accurate

Bought 4 bottles yesterday at Costco. They were flying off the shelves and remember they can't restock this item as this is not something they can usually procure on demand. Last year 17 year old Kirkland brand Macallan was on shelves for only 2 weeks. This batch has been procured and sold to Costco by Alexander Murray & Co who are leading private label whiskey

Also this is not peaty and very smooth. 20yr makes a difference. Plus these are finished in sherry oak casks which Macallan does as well.
