I chat with the liquor store guy when I go to Costco.
They told me last year this stuff flew off the shelves. They had a waiting list for this year.

Then they found out they were getting less than 50 bottles of the stuff.

It will be gone by the weekend (if not already).

I picked up bottle of the 20 yr for $44.99. There was large stack at my local Costco. I also picked up Kirkland Macallan 15 yr for $49.99. They had Macallan hidden behind the counter and not many bottles left. Also bought Kirkland premium small batch Bourbon 7yr for $19.99.

You can't. Not in NY, NJ, or CT that I saw. Those states and their liquor laws suck. In CA you can't get alcohol after 2am, but you can go pretty much anywhere (grocery store, gas station, corner market) and get it, any day of the week.

Added to the "to do" this weekend:

Get Costco membership.

In my state, anyway, you don't need a membership to buy at the liquor or pharmacy sections. Some kind of state law. Members get a small discount though.

So you might already be in the clear.

Too lazy to Google, but I wonder who "OEM's" their booze?

It's likely they buy the stuff the distillers won't sell by their label. Doesn't mean it isn't good liquor, just not to the super premium standards of the original distiller.

I've been very pleasantly surprised by the kirkland value in premium spirits. Vodka, tequilla, bourbon, etc.

premium vodka is a giant scam anyway. paying more than about $15 a handle for vodka is a sign of mental weakness.

Oh no you didn't!

ps - I agree, I like the flavor of Finlandia. Notice that vodka has "flavors" now? Yeah, that's because it doesn't have any flavor to begin with.

I had a big 1.75 of Grey Goose...yeah...I make bloody marys with it because I was out of vodka and want my damn bloody mary on sundays.

Also, we're not in college anymore. It's not called a "handle", it's a 1.75. Like costco, it's much better to buy in bulk. Do the math.

I work for Costco in California and you do not need a membership to buy alcohol, tobacco or prescriptions in the state of California. If you have someone buy you a cash card you don't need a membership for gas either.

Some of the Costcos in Connecticut have liquor stores and some don't. The alcohol laws here are draconian and it's hard to get permits in most areas. There's also a minimum price law to prevent liquor wars, so Costco can't be cheaper than anyone else. And the liquor stores are stand-alone attached to a Costco, but do not require a Costco membership. Again, a weird state law.

The only Costco spirit I have tried was the bourbon, which I consider relatively poor quality. Not only do I prefer the Knob Creek and Gentlemen Jack that they also sell, I prefer plain old Wild Turkey 101 to their bourbon.

Crap, I just bought the bourbon last week and haven't tried it yet. I thought that I read it was the same mash as Knob Creek but aged seven years instead of nine.

Not true. I go to two different Costco's in NJ. One sells liquor including the Kirkland stuff. The other has a liquor store in the same building, but claims to be independently owned. That one doesn't sell Kirkland branded liquor but still has pretty good prices.

Wife went to the Costco Liquor store in Atlanta today and got the last two bottles in their store. I was surprised.

I find their small batch 108 proof on par with or slightly superior to wild turkey 101, which a lot of people will quote as a standard. It's not much smoother than something like evan williams or jim beam, but has a bit more flavor.

For a nice, smooth and full flavored bourbon, eagle rare is hard to beat for the price, as are corner creek and basil hayden. Baker's 7 might be my favorite thus far, woodford reserve and just about anything from four roses are right up there with them. I might need to be more discriminating, but they're all so delicious!

I bought 6 bottles of the 20 yr old scotch in Brookfield CT. It's very smooth, tasty and a real bargain. I wasn't crazy about the Bourbon and prefer Jack Daniels.

Mm...sweet, delicious Knob Creek. How much does it go for there?
