As for BOINC-clients, as long as you're running atleast v5.2.6 it doesn't really matter then it comes to SETI@home. Still, would highly recommend to run atleast v5.4.11. Also, if you're running a v5.10-client, make sure this is atleast v5.10.13, if something like v5.10.7 and you're running windows, upgrade ASAP.
One thing to remember, if you're running v5.10.14 or later, if a project doesn't have any reasons for asking for more work, it will normally delay reporting of results with 24 hours, one thing to remember for the end-of-race.
As for optimized SETI@home-applications on the other hand, Sir Ulli is likely better informed than me.
