I saw a statistic - I think it was for the 'top 1%' - that found that they spent an AVERAGE of $300,000 annually on wristwatches.

I have a weakspot for beautifully crafted mechanical wristwatches. If I was in the top 1%, I would spend probably more than that lol. :)

I think the point is, beyond a certain income level, 5 grand is nothing and people drop that on a night out. So why wouldn't they 'Invest' in something that they enjoyed.

They announced availability the game, DRM-free, on gog.com.

Woohoo, another game released from the horrible shackles of steam!

At this trajectory, I think they will probably hit the 2.2 goal. At least let's hope they do. I don't personally care for "Player House", but the more characters/factions/companions/classes etc... that they can offer, the better in my opinion.

Was there ever any doubt? Personally I think they'll hit 3mil+. They're still getting 10s of thousands per day (close to 100k/day), and have 25 days to go.

what's wrong with Steam? that it won't allow you to play pirated games?

Some people like knowing they can back up the game on a hard copy, in case the worst happens and Gabe dies then Valve is sold to Activision/Blizzard or EA.

Yeah probably won't happen, but still if there was modern DRM on Black Isle or Troika games I wouldn't be playing those these days now would I?

No. It is the fact that I need to ask someone else's permission to play games that I have purchased the right to play, every time I play them on my own computer.

This. Valve (and steam) is like a benevolent dictatorship. One little shakeup and we go from Augustus to Nero.

Having to log in online in order to play offline defeats the point of "offline mode".

Let me know when you guys can play your AAA games in offline mode. Just because a few older or DosBox games run in "offline" mode without Steamworks DRM doesn't mean every game does.

Someone's a bit bitter?

You must have missed my prior post. I use it all the time on my laptop.

Someone's a bit bitter?

Someone's a bit of a defensive Steam fanboy?

TheVrolok - you said you use offline mode all the time, you didn't say which games. Read the Steam forums - most people have issues with offline mode. It often doesn't work, period, and even if you can "log in" most Steam games require Steamworks DRM anyway.

So every time someone disagrees with you, they're a fanboy?

You didn't even bother to ask what my opinion was - and from what you've posted, it doesn't seem like you care.

Umm...if you have an opinion you feel is important, it's up to you to share it. LOL nice try turning that around, though.

You didn't provide any counterpoints in your initial response. Your passive aggressive posting doesn't really help, either.

Instead of providing a well though rebuttal, your post was devoid of substance. Knee-jerk reaction of a fanboy.

Over the 8 years or so I have been a Steam user I have used Offline Mode a variety of times both on my various laptops and desktops. Not once have I ever had an issue with any game. Ever. I do not have a list of games, because I never felt compelled to compile one - they have all always worked. I'm glad you can find some anecdotal evidence to the contrary, but I'm simply stating that in my experience it has been flawless. So, your assertion that offline mode "never works" is patently false. It seems that it works appropriately in a vast majority of cases which implies that it isn't an inherent/constant problem with Steam. Your hyperbole is unwarranted.

This is the last post I'll be making in this vein of Steam discussion in this thread.
