They're already at 428,000 (probably 429 by the time this post is finished) in less than 12 hours of existance. Can you imagine how much more they're going to get over the next month? This one could be bigger than OUYA, by a lot.
I agree that this kickstarter stuff isn't going to "strike back" at publishers or big AAA title. It's not that negative. What it has done is given the hardcore gamers and corresponding devs a sorely needed viable outlet, completely independent of publisher control. This can only be good, as it enlarges the hardcore-sphere and I think in the next few years we'll probably see some big AAA titles become more "complex" as a result, but it's hardly eliminating the dumb stuff. If people didn't buy it, and lots of it, it wouldn't exist in the first place.
