Kickstarter: Project Eternity (New RPG from Obsidian)

I wish they wouldn't do a straight up fantasy RPG. Arcanum may not have been the perfect game, but the setting was just phenomenal. Hopefully they will do something non-traditional in the fantasy realm. Either way, these Obsidian guys have terrific pedigree and the only thing their games ever really lack is polish. I'm excited.

I agree, and could go for an Arcanum #2. That game was amazing even with its flaws. Well, it doesn't have to be Arcanum, but something as new and fresh as Arcanum was when it was released.

Been saying forever (feels that way) that we re drowning in lousy first person shooters, and need a good old school RPG thats turn based.

Its awesum that kickstarter, makes projects like this possible.

I sincerly hope they reach their goals and, that the game ends up selling a billion copies so more realise that the good old RPGs + story + turnbased like Planescape tormet/Baldurs Gate/Fallout1&2 ect are much more valued than a dime a dozen FPS or lame WoW clone MMOs.

***would be epic if they reached 1.1million within 1day.

I am betting that they are going for the 'Safe' bet rather than something too far off the beaten track, just to test the waters as it were.

Would that it were the case. that would indeed be Awesome. However, I fear that our numbers (those of hard core gamers that would get enthused about this type of game) are not that great. At least not so great as to have a million sold on day one. It is a really sad truth that more casual gamers really rule the market. And that they "Generally" wouldn't buy into a game such as this. they may get sucked into it if one of their gamer friends "Introduced" them to it, but not really otherwise. Those casual gamers would much rather play the jell-o FPS.

They're already at 428,000 (probably 429 by the time this post is finished) in less than 12 hours of existance. Can you imagine how much more they're going to get over the next month? This one could be bigger than OUYA, by a lot.

I agree that this kickstarter stuff isn't going to "strike back" at publishers or big AAA title. It's not that negative. What it has done is given the hardcore gamers and corresponding devs a sorely needed viable outlet, completely independent of publisher control. This can only be good, as it enlarges the hardcore-sphere and I think in the next few years we'll probably see some big AAA titles become more "complex" as a result, but it's hardly eliminating the dumb stuff. If people didn't buy it, and lots of it, it wouldn't exist in the first place.

In for $35. I backed Wasteland 2 already, I think for around the same amount. I hope I get something great out of both of them. It's not a full $50 or $60 for a new game either, and I want to help these guys, I've loved all the games they have made.

I'd be thrilled to be wrong. Let's hope I am. We definitely need more games like BG-series and IWD.

Around $470,000 already in less than 4 hours. Going strong.

I have confirmed that they do have some flex goals prepared. Up to $5million. And one of them is linux support. As well as extended gameplay, voice overs etc.

Wait. VO is a 'Stretch' goal? Hmm....

I am really excited about PE. A niche game that niche gamers have been pining years for... funding by the very same gamers! So much possibility for win.

In for $0

It hasnt been a intire day yet. I dont think they ll make 1.1million within 24hours,
but within 48? probably, too many people want to see them make the next Baldurs Gate.

Im thankfull that KickStarter, allows projects of games like this.

2013-14 is gonna be awesum with:

Wasteland 2 (post-apocalyptic predecessor to the Fallout Series)
Project Eternity (Party-turnbased RPG)
The Banner Saga (Turn-based strategy game)
ShodowRun: returns (2D turn-based RPG)
Xenonauts: (Turn-based strategie game, like X-com)

Double Fine Adventure (adventure)
Leisure Suit Larry: comes again (adventure)
Pinball Arcade: Star Trek the next generation (digitizing Pinball machines)
Planetary Annihilation: (RTS)
Carmageddon: Reincarnation (raceing game)

^ too much awesumness.
Screw all the big publishers and their lame copy & paste first person shooter games.
