540 calories isn't that low for a sandwich. Not unless that's your entire meal.
460 for the grilled and I'm assuming less without the sauce which is probably some full-fat mayo base.

I average like ~300 calories per meal, 460 or even 540 wouldn't be too bad as an occasional indulgence.

600 calories is about right for lunch and very light for dinner. The real question is if it's really only 600 calories, though...

The Vancouver Sun has done an independent calorie analysis for the "Double Down" and has concluded the "sandwich" likely has 1228 calories.

:hmm::hmm::hmm:

So how is it possible that KFC could so severely limit the calorie count on this item? 540 vs 1228 is a HUGE discrepancy, one that I'd think would be against some kind of law. Who exactly are we to believe?

perhaps it is one of those '540 calories per serving' bullshit thing, and 1 serving is 1/2 a sandwich.

Hmm .. usually I don't care for KFC (I mean, Popeye's chicken is SOOO much better) ...
But .... a sandwich that uses fried chicken instead of a bun... that is something worth trying ...

That said ... as much as I'd like to eat something like that, I think lettuce would make a better bun (less messy) ... a pound of bacon and cheese stuck between 2 pieces of lettuce would be awesome....

I make "sandwiches" like that all the time (lettuce - meat - cheese - lettuce). spares the extra calories from bread, but it's not nearly as portable and anything mildly hot is going to make the lettuce wilt.

Jimmy John's sub shop here calls that an "unwich". Basically a wrap with lettuce instead of tortilla.

Just wrong... plain wrong. As wrong as Burger King's burger with onion rings or fries in it.

there is a difference between a lack of nutrition and unhealthy.

'cause we're all worried about clogging our arteries with white flour...

are there seriously people who are like 'damn, that sandwich looks good, but if only there was double the meat and no bread.'

"more meat less bread" has always been what i wanted in fast food. mcdonalds ruined their tasty burgers by cutting the meat basically in half. i dont eat there much anymore, unless i have a hankerin for a bread sammich. some places ill get a burger with no bun just to save me the fat and calories, of which most places have a ton in their bread products.

only in america would a fastfood menu item have a release date...
it's marketing.

/shrug

I really don't get the "ZOMG UNHEALTHY AMERICA IS FAT" attitude towards this. it's not that bad calorie-wise.

I wouldn't list it as healthy food, but I don't see the sin in enjoying fast food occasionally and in moderation.

I guess for people counting carbs...but wouldn't the fried bread crumb around the chicken negate that?
