What exactly has Greenpeace done to gain eco-terrorist status?

it's weird, but I'm more or less with tajjy here. I haven't seen Greenpeace as much more than an ecco-terrorism group for about 2 decades now. They've long ago lost their mission.

BTW: tajjy immediately jumping to the assumption that this instance is terrorism/sabotage is, of course, tajjy being the fucking idiot that he is.

Meh. All pipelines leak occasionally. Until you can power society with promises and unicorn farts, oil is here to stay.

This is why I would have preferred it go near a major city than across sparsely populated tribal lands though - pipelines passing near major cities tend to be much more closely monitored and better maintained.

My father was an emergency sciences chief specializing in oil spills before he retired and no, this is not some inevitability that you just have to deal with. A leak like this is usually the result of negligence or a lack of precautions.

And you know how you avoid spills like this? By voting in a government that that values environmental responsibility, safety regulation and alternative energy sources like solar and wind power. Good thing we elected one, right? Oh, wait...

Fortunately, it looks like the leaks were contained to Republican states that supported these pipelines.

For all you know the leak may have been caused by the direct actions of the women named, but keep it cute, why bother with being accurate now? You never have before.

When a child hears a noise a night they jump to assuming it’s the boogeyman. The adult knows the house creaks.

When anything bad happens you jump to assuming it’s leftist terrorists.....

  • Church shooting - nope
  • Vegas shooting - nope
  • Roy Moore targeted - nope
Wonder what it will be this time.

Pretty much inevitable for this pipeline. They aren't pumping oil, it's basically liquidized asphalt (tar sands heated and treated). Is incredibly abrasive.

Of course the pipeline company swore up and down that they were using the most advanced technology, etc. and this would never happen to this pipeline. BS.

For all I know the leak could have been caused by you. Your statement means nothing.

Well now that people are starting to discuss that tajbot could have caused the leak we just don't know since people are talking about it. Why is tajbot an environment hating terrorist that people are talking about?

I understand leaks happen, but this needs to be accounted for when comparing the costs of fossil fuels compared to alternatives. If we included the true costs of fossil fuels including all the environmental impacts, and made users pay for them instead of either the government picking up the tab or destroying the world for our children, we'd be a lot further along in terms of our energy infrastructure.

Problem is not pipeline per se, it's the shitty standards.

I say let the companies build the pipelines. And they are liable for all damages. No bankrupcy escape clause, put big amount into a fund. Management personal assets are fair game too.
Excellent point. I support things like pipelines and mines, but the companies building them should be forced to post very large bonds (these are similar to insurance) which are immediately available for government to draw upon in case of failure with environmental damage. Right now the equation is potential benefit > cost of remediation OR cost of buying politicians. This would help end that and reduce the argument over liability to after the spill is cleaned up. Potentially increasing the cost of failure would incentivize companies into preventing those failures.

Yup. "Dilbit" needs to be heated to higher temps in order to move, which also accelerates corrosion. So the pipe is attacked by the contents on two fronts.

Well at least we subsidize Trans Canada heavily for all of this and exempted them from disaster insurance. MAGA by getting fucked so Canada can sell oil to Brazil and China. Thank goodness we have so many shit-for-brains republicans in office.

Did you use that in the Senator Franken thread when some bombastic asshole what going on about "what about Trump" It would have been apropos in that thread. In this one? Not so much.

Tajbot has yet to deny causing the leak. People have been talking about tajbot possibly being responsible for the leak. The lack of denial just adds to the speculation. Why hasn’t tajbot provided proof it didn’t cause the leak? What is Fox News and the alternative conservative media covering up by not reporting on tajbot’s role in this horrific event that people are talking about?

You could always bring it into perspective. A 220 thousand gallon spill is about enough of a spill to fill up 1/3 of an Olympic sized swimming pool. Since they still haven't announced what caused the spill i'm still curious about the timing of the spill. Only 4 days until neighboring Nebraska votes on it. Gosh i'm sure it's just a coincidence, of course it is. Just a coincidence.

TransCanada Corp shut part of its Keystone oil pipeline system after a 5,000-barrel leak in South Dakota, the company said on Thursday, four days before neighboring Nebraska was set to decide on the company’s long-delayed Keystone XL pipeline.

Opponents of TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL pipeline seized on the spill.............."

Don't forget all the waste being dumped at the refinery end.

We sure got played for suckers-all for an estimated 35 new US "permanent" jobs.

Keep grasping at those straws!

You need to actually show evidence of sabotage, not just indulge in vague hand waving about coincidences. Just because you don't like the timing doesn't mean it was deliberate.

No I don't. I can make informed guesses at any time, is this a new forum rule or just a new Commodus rule? Do you apply the same standards across the board to your postings?

But it's not an informed guess. It's just spitballing based on your anti-liberal fantasies. You're entitled to your opinion; you're not entitled to be free of criticism when you make a claim with no evidence to support it. If you want to sway anyone, you need to back up what you say.
