India claims to be the biggest democracy in the world. Isn't the meaning of democracy the rule of the people? Shouldn't a referendum decide the fate of Kashmir's people.

Well, most countries that are known as democracies aren't ruled simply by the will of the majority of the people.

Most countries simply aren't governed by mob rule.

Even on legal terms, India has no right to rule Kashmir.

I'd imagine that there would be arguments on both sides. You know, legal arguments.

Anyways, India just has to wait. It's a growing global power while Pakistan is stuck in the stone age. Pretty soon India can do whatever it'll want with regard to Kashmir, except for the part controlled by China.

Thats one very isolated incident, the society did not want him there coz of his ties with Dawood, their entire family including uncle mahesh are very notorious and ppl want to stay away from them. On the other side we had a Muslim president who everyone loved and was unanimously elected, even BJP supported him.

India is not doing much better than Pakistan in its rural areas. This is not an India vs Pakistan thread so don't make it one.

ppl like you will always divide India for you convenience, its all media and political propaganda, the fact is EVERYONE in India is in wayyyy better shape than they were 20 years ago

From the wikipedia link posted above, it looks like Kashmir is an Al Queda stronghold...which may explain why Pakistan wants control so much. They seem to be in Al Queda's pocket...

I don't see anyone other than Indians and Pakistanians caring about this in the slightest. I doubt there will ever be a solution that's acceptable by all parties concerned.

Kashmir is a political issue, that has been simmered to unbearable levels thanks to politicians.

Geographically/Geologically, there is next to no value to Kashmir anymore, yet both countries want to posture and pander to appease their political followers.

Ideally, both countries should follow Gandhi's footsteps and figure out an agreeable situation. But the lust for power combined with radical ignorance won't let this happen.

This is a stupid wedge issue (like gay marriage/abortion rights in the States) that have next to no relevance in reality, but the State leaders keep it stirred right up there to keep the rhetoric going.

Also, if India (and a lot of other countries) were to just start giving everyone that wants secession their wish, you would instantly have a half-dozen new countries, complete with miserable economic conditions, strife and such.

Maybe we can just send the Quebecqueers to Kashmir and they can both secede together.

Are you forgetting the Gujarat violence where the CM himself claimed to massacre muslims because of their relgion? Are you forgetting Shiv Sena? Are you forgetting the Maoist insurgency which rages throughout the country? Are you forgetting the plight of the untouchables?

I have friends and family who have been denied housing in the heart of Mumbai just because they were muslims... lets not go into jobs. What happens at the top level is no indication of what is happening with the commons.

Just because India is growing at 8% does not mean that the poorest have benefited at all.

The Muslim leader and his supporters killed were not innocent, they killed lots of innocent Hindus (Patels) to take over those villages and mining communities and docks.

There are lot of places and housing plans that are created for special groups of ppl and domicile, there are places where even I cannot buy a house or land, ppl unnecessary cry foul. Again if you burn fire crackers when Pakistani cricket team wins and they cry I am being discriminated then you are moron. They support Pakistan and don't even realize that they will be muhajirs there.

Go to any Indian village and you will see much better roads, bus services and electricity everywhere, even rural India has progressed. Poor ppl will always be there, you cannot take care of everyone, India's population is close to 1.2 bil. We have poors even in US but that does not downplay progress.

Maoists are Chinese funded terrorists, that take advantage of poor ppl in places where the politicians dont let real progress happen. They need poor ppl to enslave and then the Chinese govt pay them to join Mao movement. Yes, its it is even named after the great Chinese leader - Mao.

That's so untrue. Firstly, even if it was, vigilante justice is barbarism and you are supporting it. I actually thought you were a decent man until you started openly supporting genocide. Secondly, I'm from Gujarat myself originally and many of my grandparents' friends got robbed off everything because they were muslims.

Dont worry, India will never preemptively user Nuclear weapons on Pakistan coz its too close and will do a lot of damage to India too. They only reason India developed them is coz its knew that China had already sold technology and weapons to Pakistan, we needed it so that Pakistan could not bully us. Pakistan will never use it coz their masters (US) will never allow them, and even if someday if US is out of the equation, they simply do not have the balls.
