I'm less concerned about Hegseth's hands, a little more worried about these two assholes entrenching corruption and making life hell for Federal employees.

Both complete posers and morally broken cowards. The damage from these two alone is probably going to be felt for decades.

A Fox noise talking head for Sec of Defense? Sounds about right for a reality TV star given to treason for CiC.

I'm trying to focus on the positive now. At least Hegseth's a veteran and not named Erik Prince.
Yeah, when I saw that today I just went WTF. Shows you how out of touch Trump really is. Fox News host for Secretary of Defense! Unbelievable.

More things about Heggieboy: had an affair with a producer at Fox; his second wife filed for divorce after the extramarital daughter was born. No security issues there for someone looking at the top DoD spot.

If it ends up as an advisory committee as these things typically are, they have no power and can look forward to being bogged down in paperwork and lawsuits, just like the last Trump presidency advisory committees.

And how about Tom Homan? Looks like more families are going to get torn apart pretty soon. Can't wait for the business owners who love Trump to start bitching about finding workers again.

We're going to spend taxpayer money to hobble to labor pool and fight inflation with tariffs, but fear not peasants, it's nothing the swamp won't try to fix giving by itself another round of tax breaks, like in 2017. Remember to blame anyone but the people doing this to you.

Not going to lie...I'm kinda curious what they will find. I always wanted someone to take a look under the hood...

They're likely not going to find shit. There are probably some regulations and positions that came into being at one point or another because of some issue, and could stand to be rolled back or adjusted. But these clowns won't do it.

What could actually help government efficiency: pay better and bring more jobs back in house instead of relying on expensive contractors, but Republicans would hate that because it would mean more government employees and less money lining the pockets of their contractor friends.

My sincerest hope, I just don't think Egon's arrangement with Trump will allow us that saving grace. At the very least he's going after the regulation and oversight currently at odds with his sleazy business practices, union busting, etc.

There were a lot more adults in the room last time, that won't be the case soon. I hope I'm wrong.

Do you really think those two guys will dig into federal department intricacies? Nah...

I suppose Trump didn't bother vetting him. Due diligence nowhere to be found. Security clearance, who cares? In Trumpland there's no real difference between highly secure documents and toilet paper.

He has to be Senate confirmed, no?

I wonder if it's just to soften them up then get his preferred guy like Prince or even Flynn (!) through.

Two of the biggest money hoarders in history are going to be put in charge of finding money.

They're going to find money.

Where do you think it's going to go?

The GQP is so beholden to him they’re gonna pass anyone he nominates for the positions.
That’s why the recess appointment thing is such a red flag. He’s trying to bypass that even though the ease of passages extraordinarily high.

I’m guessing finding money isn’t the goal but rather finding information, information that will be useful to Putin.

The excuses are just going to be: the president should be able to appoint as he sees for.

The recess appointment can only work if the Senate and House can actually agree to recess for more than a few days, since they both must consent to the other, and under Noel Canning, a short recess is not enough time to do a recess appointment.

The reason we have so many contractors (at least in my area) is specifically because they can be let go. Civil Servants require an act of Congress to RIF en masse. Teams are generally a mix of CS and contractors doing the same work except where it legally needs to be done by CS. If there’s a reduction needed the contractors are let go. They also are normallly paid slightly less than their CS counterparts - although not in all cases. Management being a major difference.

Other portions of the government may use contractors differently

As for pay a civil servant GS-15 tops out at $191K this year (depending on locality pay) plus medical, 5% matching into the TSP (govt 401K), and the FERS pension (~1% per year of service)

While it’s possible to get pay above a GS-15 level at that point you are special executive service and technically serve at the pleasure of the president. Meaning you can be let go with an administration change, no Project 2025 required.

But drilling down outside of the anti-incumbency bias, it was inflation, it was immigration, and it was the gender identity issues. All 3 of those for right or for wrong were Democratic headwinds this year.
Those issues were weak, diversions, and I found it infuriating that they were hammering them in their ads. To me, it felt very dishonest.

Inflation, or rather prices, were absolutely an issue.

Immigration has been an issue forever, neither party wanted to address it, finally a bipartisan bill was proposed too late in the election cycle with zero incentive for the GOP to support it.

The gender stuff was just easy stuff to attack Dems with.

But really, the bill came due for inflation and the border, and someone had to pay.

Inflation he helped create, Biden and the Fed eventually fixed, and then when Biden tried to close the border, Trump thwarted it. Funny how that worked out.

Women voting for a rapist instrumental in striping the right to an abortion away from them.

Another climate change denying twat as head of the EPA and NATO is in real danger from Trump's subservience to Putin.

Man stuff is fucked right now.

If both are GQP controlled. What’s to stop them? Not saying it’ll happen but Dictator Orange wants it to happen.

Hence why I said for right or for wrong.

I do think people who switched from Biden to Trump were/are miffed about all three. It’s all there in the post mortem conversations I’ve been listening to these past few days. I’ve already ad nauseam went on about inflation. People thinking Trump will keep inflation low while pursuing further tax cuts, and tariffs are in for a rude surprise.

Pertaining to the border, they will argue that Biden-Harris should’ve kept access restricted via Title 42 (at a minimum, if they even know what that is). Hardliners would go further.

And as a response, Democrats then started moderating their positions and would’ve agreed to a conservative border bill. Shit even Harris said she’d sign that same bill. Clearly there was discontent about so many people coming across the border. Even Latinos* were reporting that they were disgruntled with the situation. In a general sense, some people think that the millions of migrants that came across are skipping the line so to speak. You can tell them why they’ve come, that they’re overwhelmingly law abiding, but that it doesn’t change their mind.

On the gender identity issue. The GQP may have landed some points with some about the Kamala commercial saying prison inmates should be afforded sex changes at taxpayer expense. Apparently this would’ve only happened twice! But I’d surmise a majority of people don’t like that. Same with the potential for scholastic sports having transgender girls playing with biological girls. It’s quite rare, but they’ll argue it puts the biological girls to a disadvantage, and they want to shut it down. Even here some Dems essentially ran away from the issue.

I think it’s pretty clear to see when you add these issues (particularly the first two in order) together and if they’re already feeling like they’re not progressing in life per their plan or their expectation, these swing voters can be tipped over towards a deceitful, corrupt, (insert negative adjectives), candidate. They just look past the copious amount of corruption, violent rhetoric, and already determined bad policies thinking that he’ll help them out more than Harris would’ve. Clearly we think that’s incorrect but enough people have bought into this. And now we will all see the shit show that we’re already seeing with these picks.

Man, this is way too nuanced an answer for like 90% of the population. There was a poll that came out today where 54% thought we were in a recession. Today.

All people see is: prices high, current Pres bad. And with RW controlling the information battleground, all future blame just continues to get diverted to Dems.

Maybe I was right that over half the country is flat out stupid. I bet if these people were asked what a recession is, they would have the complete wrong answer. I think we need to teach some pre-economics classes in high school as a mandatory requirement.

And check this out!

Wonder if middle class working americans still believe Trump's administration is going to help them after these two appointments. They will probably rationalize it that government will get cut and the money saved will trickle down to them instead of perks and tax cuts for the rich.

The final nail in our coffin is if he in fact appoints RFK as head of Health and Human Services.
