Depends on how you interpret her response to the question. What is true is that some media outlets, to include some that serve the African-American community, have rightfully questioned her record as a prosecutor...and quite a few people are now calling her out for using MJ and gangsta rap, harmful racial stereotypes, to establish her “blackness” credibility and distance herself from that record.
I believe she did but there is no way to prove it.
There are no binary rules, but as it relates to Harris, she is drawing legitimate criticism for how she chose to establish her bona fides.

Bernie Sanders struggled to appeal to black voters. If he started to go on radio interviews to build credibility through the recreational use of MJ, don’t you think it would draw criticism?

How is it you've concluded that she lied about smoking MJ and listening to rap?

More than black people listen to rap.
Tons of white people smoke mj.
Lots of professionals smoke up.

Lacking any real evidence, you use racial stereotypes about what groups of people do those things to conclude that she lied about doing an actually common activity, all to condemn her for using racial stereotypes.

We may be in agreement on some things, one thing we are not in agreement on is how high the bar needs to be for Democrats. Republicans have made it very clear how much they value moral fiber. You'll have to come up with something better than unsubstantiated accusations that someone is lying about what music they partied to 30 years ago in an attempt to gets votes from classic metal fans.
You are fixating on an analogy presented as whimsical. Don’t respond before you’ve had your Dunkies.

You'll also have to come up with something better than concern about stereotypes. Again, the bar is so low now, that a Jamaican referring to jamaican stereotypes wrt MJ is not even on the radar.
It’s not a concern about stereotypes. It’s calling out disingenuous attempts at distracting from legitimate criticisms. It speaks to her character. Now, I am sure her character is infinitely better than Trump’s, but we’ve already established that Trump is stubbornly able to overcome that handicap where other candidates cannot.

Admittedly, I had to look up the quote. It’s Trump. I don’t recall this exact quote, but I rejected Trump long ago for making similar comments, and have not pulled a lever for any Republican who stands by him.

I like some rap, typically the collaborations with metal bands or songs that sample iconic metal riffs. Turn it up, bring the noise!

That’s part of the point. That quote was very well covered outside of the conservative press.

To answer your question to @ch33zw1z, I’m not very concerned about someone being confused about what concerts they went to & what music they listened to 30 years ago. I’m particularly not concerned if they remember the songs & dates incorrectly or if they did or didn’t have fun then but it’s a fun memory today.

Ask Harris’ father, as it is his comments over harmful racial stereotypes that is fueling Reefergate.

Y'all need grab a pot brownie and chill out. Including her dad. Travesty? What happens when a real travesty occurs? What word do you escalate to there? This is where we've gotten to in politics. Every. Single. Word. is under a microscope. So many people are trying to be offended or find things to be offended for that when someone makes a joke or a gaffe it's an immediate uproar.

People aren't perfect. You aren't perfect. No candidate is going to be perfect. Stop looking for perfection.

Shrug. Harris said she smoked some weed in the past and made a joke relating to applying a racial stereotype to herself.

If Bernie smoked some weed and wanted to discuss it in an attempt to appeal to MJ supporters, I wouldn't care there either. If some of those supporters are black, so be it.

I see this as more about MJ than race. Can she be critiqued? Sure. Is it soft? Yep.

Oh sure, you pose that she lied, then bail on it, and i'm "fixating" on your disingenuous concern in hypotheticals a.k.a. feels. lol... btw, "dunkies" i assume is dunkin donuts? yea. they suck.

once you dispensed with the lie premise, your next question was about stereotypes.

Whatever dude, once you've had your "dunkies" ask what you really want an answer to.

As long as they're not Dems.

Tell that to the democratic party - how many have had to resign over stupid childish shit claims like Al Franken?

Recreational MJ is legal in California now, and nearly 70% of Americans support legalization nationwide. Seems like a non-issue here if a candidate admits to past use.

As for Harris' record as a prosecutor, a prosecutor's job is to enforce the laws, not write them. If in her career as a prosecutor she dutifully enforced laws that she personally disagreed with, that would be to her credit, not the other way around.

Oh, and hip hop has been outselling rock music since 1994. It's hardly 'black music' or whatever. Some of you all are a bit out of touch.

Uhh, you sure about that? Quick google is off the charts with all kinds of supposed dates.

Kinda difficult to define these days, no? "Hip Hop" is very generous - Do you include both R&B (Say, Bruno Mars) with Rap (Say, Jay-Z) in that?

Similar for Rock - Does that include modern rock, classic rock, new hipster rock, 90's rock, and grunge?

Also where does "Pop" music fall like Taylor Swift?

Also how do you define "overtake"? Just by music sales? Because the reality is, no one really buys much music anymore. YouTube, Spotify, etc... The main source of revenue for ANY artists these days has and always will be concerts.....

And last I checked Guns N' Roses reunion tours were still selling out with tickets @ $500+ a pop.

As opposed to the Republican party, which proudly elects confessed sex abusers to the White House.

Sex abusers? Saying you want to grab a girl by the pussy is no "confessed sex abuser". He's a worthless piece of shit, but you will never get him on "sex abuser".

No one really buys music anymore? You're a fucking idiot. Seriously. Maybe people don't buy traditional records anymore, but music sales are doing just fine.

As for GNR, I saw them with Metallica at the Kingdome back in '91 IIRC. Metallica was alright but GNR was probably the worst show I've ever seen. If people want to pay $500 to wait 2 hours for a drunk off his ass Axl to finally make it on stage so he can croak like a frog for 3 songs before walking off.. well, more power to them.

LIAR!!!! Your opinions can no longer be taken seriously. GNR played at the Kingdome in October of 1992.

Dishonest liar!!!!

Above is what this thread is about. The expectation to know very specific dates & events that happened nearly 30 years ago.

No good sir - you are the fucking idiot here.

Retail sales of Physical CDs is down so much that retailers are contemplating getting rid of CD sales altogether in stores. That makes sense, because everyone is moving to digital downloads (iTunes) right?

Nope. That crapped out and took a nosedive starting in 2013 - and it's now less than half of its peak and will continue to go down further: https://www.statista.com/statistics/186688/downloads-of-digital-music-singles-in-the-us-since-2004/

So whats left now? More people I guess are prescribing to streaming services like Spotify - or watching them on YouTube, but I guarantee it's not getting anywhere near the revenue that it once was.

Also as far as GNR - Apparently fattie Axl has started to lose some weight and kick his drug habits for once, he's probably the type that will get to the set early and leave before bedtime 😛

I’ve heard artists say it’s about 30-40% of its peak before digital music, that’s why concert tickets are so expensive. Concerts are what the artists make money with now.

This is way off topic can we please get back to the subject.

Yeah but this discussion is way more fucking interesting than talking about someone that may or may not have smoked pot at some point 😛

I am thoroughly dissapointed on a deep humanitarian level by some of our conservative posters here .. you know who you are..
Sad.

Don't bother. Someone is just trying to do what Starbuck was doing earlier. Which is use his feels to justify his double standard for politicians based on the letter next to their name. We know that if any Democratic POTUS bragged about committing digital rape, the Republicans wouldn't give up that -gate even after impeachment. But 'oh he has an R next to his name' and 'what's the big deal? boys will be boys' and 'locker room talk,' etc.
Today's conservatives think entirely by emotion, without even a hint of logic.

Thank you for deflecting a reasonable and factual criticism of someone's idiotic comment that rap is black music into your personal assessment of the current state of the recording industry.
And FYI, $500/seat isn't really that impressive anymore. Weird, I know.
