Her health affects every one of us.Shame on the media for intruding on Ginsberg’s privacy every time she suffers a medical emergency. It’s as if they’re salivating at the political firestorm that will emerge should she pass away.

The judiciary is meant to be impartial, and Chief Justice Roberts has asserted as much. If the fate of our society rests on one SCOTUS judge, that is indicative of a far deeper dysfunction. Her health affects every one of us.
It is definitely indicative of a far deeper dysfunction. It is also true. The judiciary is meant to be impartial, and Chief Justice Roberts has asserted as much. If the fate of our society rests on one SCOTUS judge, that is indicative of a far deeper dysfunction.
Yes, and the two parties are meant to represent the will of the people. That hasn't stopped one of the parties from doing everything they can to manipulate people into "wanting" the same things they want. The judiciary is meant to be impartial, and Chief Justice Roberts has asserted as much. I agree with your first sentence. The problem is we can’t have a civil conversation around your second.Yes, and the two parties are meant to represent the will of the people. I sincerely doubt this. If anything a threat to abortion rights will help Biden as Americans overwhelmingly support them.Absolutely true. If she passes before the Inauguration, McConnell will be all over himself to rubber stamp a Trump nominee. If she passes before the election that will bump up Trump's chances substantially, as many so-called social conservatives will hold their noses and vote for Trump (again) solely because his nominee will abolish the right to privacy and outlaw abortion again. As shown in 2016 judicial nominees invigorate the GOP base far more than the Dems-unless the Dem voters have learned a lesson from all the incompetent partisan hacks Trump has put on the bench.
It's very possible as long as we can have a factual starting point.I agree with your first sentence. The problem is we can’t have a civil conversation around your second.
The earth is round and gravity is provable, but there are situations where there isn’t consensus, and we’ve lost the ability to compromise. It's very possible as long as we can have a factual starting point.
The earth is round
Gravity is a provable theory
Republicans are not really pro-life. I say this because COVID-19 has exposed their pro life myth. Too many prominent Republicans have openly opined the elderly should sacrifice their lives for the sake of the economy.
It is good that you can admit that you can't have a civil conversation regarding it. I know I certainly can.... The problem is we can’t have a civil conversation around your second.
I have no idea. I just stated my thought on the matter. Just as before when this issue arose. Wait until after the election to appoint a SCOTUS if it falls in the election year.
As to the odds, maybe you should ask Mitch.
What do you think the Dems would do if the situation were reversed?
I think we both know the answer to that. 😉
This post suggests otherwise, but I invite you to demonstrate your ability to do so.It is good that you can admit that you can't have a civil conversation regarding it. I know I certainly can.

Pumping up Trump’s base does nothing - they are already pumped up. It’s about everyone else.
Let’s keep it to this thread. I asserted that it is not healthy for our democracy that there is partisan maneuvering around the appointment of judges to an impartial judiciary, and that the media focus on RBG’s many health incidents is macabre.Start the conversation and name your parameters and I'll stick to them.
Pretty much confirms these so called "christians" are a bunch of phonies. No longer can they make a moral argument for anything in the future.I hope you're right, but the polling indicates a lot of ""christian conservatives" are currently abandoning Trump, probably because of his abysmal COVID-19 handling-which directly jeopardizes their lives (especially the elderly). Abortion is a huge issue to them-in fact the GOP is largely based on single issue voters, unlike the Dems. I'm a Dem and a New Englander so the right to privacy is extremely important to me, but I can't see me or most other non-GOP voters specifically choosing a candidate because of the abortion rights issue. It didn't motivate the Dem base in 2016 for sure, at best it is a maybe motivator for Dems now.
If Trump has a clear shot at immediately nominating a Supreme Court justice, I can see a lot of "christian conservatives" coming back to the Trump camp. Hang in there, RBG.
The judiciary is meant to be impartial, and Chief Justice Roberts has asserted as much. If the fate of our society rests on one SCOTUS judge, that is indicative of a far deeper dysfunction.
Ah yes. The solemn nobility of the Supreme Court Judiciary.

You'll have to explain what you mean by media focus. Should the media not report on this development? I can't imagine that you would think that. Do you think they are reporting it too much? If so, what metrics are you using to come to that conclusion?and that the media focus on RBG’s many health incidents is macabre.
It’s the sensationalist nature of the reporting with no context as to the severity of her condition. Is this a routine scenario given her underlying medical history or something worst? The nature of the reporting is meant to create hysterics. I became aware of it because this thread shot right to the front page of the forum, which usually means she is sick again and I am sure for some the hope that it also means she passed away.I agree. They can even elect a president. No other branch wields the power of the Constitution so easily or directly. If SCOTUS wants to apply a new meaning all they need do is make a decision. Congress OTOH needs a two-thirds vote in both houses of Congress and ratification by three-fourths of the states by votes in each of their legislative chambers. The partisan divide of this nation and of our SCOTUS means the votes often come down 5 to 4. Taking that massive Congressional process and reducing it down to a single person with the power to decide the Constitution and how it is applied.
That seems problematic to me, and is certainly the reason we watch each member of the SCOTUS like a hawk. For the future and power of the Constitution rests with them except in times of great unity.

I for one hope she makes it to the end of Trump’s term, and put myself in her shoes as to the immense pressure she must feel just to stay alive. It’s absurd.
