Movies that take a strong anti-drug stance don't go over well in Hollywood.

Artistically, it was far and away the most creative and ingeniously constructed movie of that year. I would go so far as to say that Ellen Burstyn's performance was one of the 10 or so amazing acting jobs of all time.

If you haven't seen this movie yet, you must. It is absolutely unparalleled.

lol you think that movie was realistic?

i place it as one of the most overrated movies of all time. i would say the saving grace was the ass2ass scene.

I would say it's realistic. Of course, I've known several people who have messed up their lives with alcohol, prescription drug addictions, and hard drugs.

The main point of the movie, anyway, was not necessarily about drug abuse. It was about how prevalent "quick-fixes" are in today's society... and how people would rather live in alternative realities, rather than work to achieve their dreams.

That movie is one you will remember. After I watched it, I just sat in my room in silence for almost a half hour. I couldn't believe it. It was really powerful.

They should show that in high schools along with KIDS.

Great movie.

It's always nice to have proof of one's insanity. Care to elaborate?

I think that very strong pills like hers (very strong uppers/speed) are prescribed rarely anymore, especially in the US, if at all, and even then it was or would be pretty rare and in extreme cases of obesity, ADD, or nacrolepsy.

I don't recall if they indicated what she was on. Dexedrine possibly? That one is not as common as ritalin or adderal but is probably still prescribed occasionally.

Desoxyn is one of the stronger or strongest I've heard of. It's pharmaceutical grade methamphetamine. Very uncommon (for good reason, but with all the street meth what's the difference?), never heard of anyone having prescribed that.

Pretty much my reaction to it. ...When I saw it, it was in a creepy, decrepit theater in Chicago about the size of my apartment (small). Looked like a cave.

One of the best movies I have seen that I refuse to see again. I find any drug-themed movie made after it to be weak, worthless, and unnecessary. This includes "Traffic," which I thought was crap...

RfaD is an amazing movie. The soundtrack is chilling and fits the movie perfectly.

 the music is so simple but hits very hard.

That alone gave me nightmares. I saw the soundtrack in a music store once...I ran away and hid in a corner

Yes. I know a couple people myself who have almost gone the route of the characters in the movie, and the similarities are striking.

It's a good thing movies are such accurate representations of reality!

Actually the thing I don't quite get is when Harry and Wayans go to the hotel for the first time (after driving halfway to Florida and before they get picked up by the cops), why didn't they do anything about Harry's arm then? Why did they have to wait for him to show up in detox camp before actually doing anything about it?

Very good soundtrack. Though, I've got to say, the music they use during Goldfarb's pill-popping, teeth grinding, delusional scenes gives me a headache...which I'm sure is entirely intentional, much like the migraine music/sfx from Pi. Of course, same director as well as composer.

and i agree with you. no movie has outdone requiem in this genre of movies.

What would you call this genre of movie? If "Kids" fits in to it, I'd say that movie does an equally good job. Let's call this genre: "MESSAGE!"
