Kerry was at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia today, it was pretty cool. I've never seen politicians speak before, so it was quite an experience. I was hoping Bush would make an appearance here too, but he was in a suburb of the city a few days ago.

How many of you guys have seen Kerry/Bush/Nader whoever, and what did you think of them?

He struck me as being a little awkward, but he definitely spoke with passion and intellect. I felt like he meant what he said, and though I had heard most of what he was talking about before, it was still incredible. Very patriotic.

If you ever have a chance to see a Presidential Candidate speak, go. I'm an independent voting for Kerry, but even my republican friend was quite impressed with it.

Cross party lines and see candidates!

 
I went to see Kerry in Jefferson City, MO a couple of months back. I felt he was a very good orator. No doubt about it.

 
You need to get out more if you think Heinz is a passionate speaker. I'm surprised you didn't lapse into a coma.

Especially when the issue of substance comes up. That empty suit has neither substance nor style. When he's done speaking, the audience is still left wondering what his position is on the most important of issues.

FWIW, I saw Sen Kerry speak in person about a month ago and was favorably impressed - he's clearly a very bright guy, with a lot to say, and actually dealt very well with a heckler who kept peppering him with questions. He's definitely not the most magnetic man on the planet, but he is, IMO, a more impressive speaker than most of the presidents of my lifetime (I was born in 1970).

No, I haven't heard Heinz speak in person. Is it different than watching him on the tube? Or listening on the radio? I mean, does his message change? Is he actually formulating a position in person? Is the media altering his message? Is Dan Rather switching tapes again?

Thanks for anwering the question honestly. I don't care for Bush or his message but did see him once at a rally and he did have a way with the crowd and I could feel the energy. So it is OK to disagree with what you are hearing but somehow be taken by the experience. That is the topic at hand. Pissing into it to spout off about something you have no first hand knowledge is neither surprising nor unexpected.

It's a shame I can't find the picture of high school (college?) kids at a Bush rally from a few days ago...they looked either half asleep or stoned bored.
