I'm inclined to believe it's real. If a Skoorb Attempt is in progress, the revelation of the truth will surely cause a massive shunning and negative attention towards the OP.

Suggestion from someone who works in law enforcement ('nuff said):

Aphex;

First things first: Don't communicate with him in any way. If he calls, hang up and leave the phone off the hook (or off in the cellphone age).

Contact your county sheriff and the authorities in the county of his business (if it differs from the county where his home is located) since the email apparently originated from his business account. That's a step many people forget about. But typically a county sheriff will also have jurisdiction in a case like this, and will usually have a much smaller case load than a local PD.

Then contact your local PD and the PD in the city of his business and home. Try to obtain the direct number to a detective before calling, and call that individual directly. If that's not possible, don't speak with the watch officer, but ask to speak with a detective or lieutenant regarding cyber-crime, felony harassment, and terroristic threats (not "terrorist" but "terroristic" which are totally different). Don't tell the locals that you contacted the sheriffs unless they directly ask you whom you have contacted (let his lawyer and the agencies work out who will prosecute him, its not your job, and telling them other agencies are looking into it motivates each agency to let someone else do it). DO, repeat, DO tell your local PD that you have contacted his local PD, and give them the name and phone number of the official you spoke with. If they give you crap (and it is a load of crap) about not being able to do anything because he hasn't hurt you yet, print out the FL criminal code and show them the part about threats to do harm. And complain to their superior, the chief, and the mayor.

In addition, contact the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/ Any violation of state law falls under their jurisdiction, and they are more likely to prosecute the offense. FDLE also has a specific computer crimes task force, which may be interested in this case.

Lastly, you should locate and contact the nearest office of the FBI. They have to look into your complaint.

Do this today. Don't wait to see if he makes good on his threat. He probably won't, but he already broke the law and you are within your rights to press charges. And frankly, no offense, but you are stupid if you don't. He thinks being a man means defending his girlfriend. WE think being a man means standing firm on what is right.

Additionally, do not under any circumstances involve his place of business directly. They have will have more money and lawyers, and could contribute to his defense if they are implicated. But, do provide his home and WORK addresses to EACH law enforcement agency that you contact. They simply love dropping in on people at work (adds to the humiliation).

Stay safe and mind your surroundings until you know what's happening with the cops.

Remember: "Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little." (Edmund Burke, Dec 1, 1783)

What out for the 16 year old white boys with their ricers.

i think by low places i think he means he has peeps that will leave you chopped up in garbages for a small crack rock.

Sorry for the slow update folks.... Since i moved, its taking forever to get my cable modem installed... I posted this thread last night using my girlfriends AOL and a proxy server...

Lemme clarify a few things;

1) He owns his OWN business. The email was sent from his bellsouth account with his business name in the From Field. The headers are intact and show all his info, including his Full Name and IP Address.

2) We were able to call my former boss and find out his business address, business phone number, and Legal Agent (who incidentally works across the street from my mom).

3) Since i dont live in the area any longer, my dad is in the process of going to speak to a local lawyer about my next step.

4) Luckily for me, my parents are best friends with a senior officer at the Brroward Sherrifs Office (BSO). They have contacted him and he is going to work on filing the restraining order and any applicable charges.

5) I am going to contact his ISP & the FCC this evening, notifying them of the threats he is sending across the internet. I will NOT let this guy get away with this.

6) I will not be getting a gun. I will be purchasing a baseball bat this evening.

7) Fergot to mention, i called my local cops last night and they said since the email did not have a direct threat, only vague threats they couldnt do anything. I think the lady was just lazy. Im stopping by tonight.

Thanks for all the help, i'll hopefully be back on with cable tonight.

Need to run, gotta get back to work...

:(

Glad to hear that you're going to see this through. At 48 years old, he really should know better.

Good luck, and keep us posted! I for one would like to know what happens :)

Nice. My advice to anyone who ever has a legal problem or complaint: Go to the sheriff first, every time! Always more productive than (typically) overworked and underpaid local cops.

And seriously, give his email addy to a friend and let them post it here. At least let the spambots pick it up!

It might be the case sadly. However, now that you have it on record it can be evidence in case something happens.

BTW, you should spoof his IP and get in some hot chat with the folks over at Perverted Justice

Jeez, I wonder if anyone has ever been shot over refusing to fix a guy's computer. I'd stick with calling the cops...but if you're so inclined, a gun is a VERY expensive way to maintain your safety. However, there's no time for classes/training sessions, so I'd recommend that you just forget about a firearm for now.
Guns are a fake sense of security. The end.

Not when you are standing over the dead body of the idiot who just tried to kill you they aren't.

Go to the authorities. Threats of violence over the phone or the internet are federal offenses. Atleast go to the authorities to get it on record that you have been threatened. That way, if something happens, you already have an official Cover Your Ass file started.
