I have worked a little with law inforcement and do not contact him or her in any way, do not offer anything. Print out the mail and all the properties on the mail. Take it to the county atty and the police department and file for a protection order against both of them. Do not do anything yourself that might be considered a threat or harrassment by you it will just fudge things up for you.
Let the legal system do the dirty work for you. Do not be afraid of the jerk. When you go for the protection order be sure that you mention that harrassing and threatning phone calls were made and back that up with the e-mail.
Him and her will crap when they get the order served on them by the law inforcement responsible for servicing these documents.
If it were me personally I would complain to his employer that you suspect the mail was sent from his workplace and if it does not stop you will get a protection order against them also.
DO NOT wimp out on this if you do you will regret it for the rest of your life. Stand up and be a man dont let nutcakes like him or her jack you around. You have the power to stop him dead in his tracks with the protection order and if he or she violates the order to jail they go. Do no let them intimidate you if you start life letting bullies get to you it will never end.

Good Luck

Well said. If you're getting wronged by somebody you can back down and be a big pussy with no self-respect or take a screw-you mentality and do the right thing.

I didn't get to read the whole thread but saw that Aphex didn't reply. He's just fine. I was talking with him last night as he was posting this. He was heading to bed right afterwards because he had to be up at 6:30.

A lawyer once told me that regardless of the context of an e-mail, it is a legal document and CAN hold up in court. Josh, fvck'em. Call the police, charge the idiot of harassment, and taken him to court.

It's unfortunate that you even have to bother with it at all. And it will me time consuming, but don't let him get to you. Show him what it is to be a MAN and handle it civilly and maturely. He obviously doesn't know what that is like.

goto the cops?

they would do nothing. They would send a cop over to his house and thats all. May be this b@stard has couple of convictions already???

I wouldn't say for sure all cops will do nothing, some will take it seriously while others won't be very helpful. How busy the police are in the area, how they typically handle threats at this stage, what kind of mood the guy at the desk is in, etc all makes a difference!

But good luck aphex, keep us posted.

That e-mail could be considered "Making a terrorist threat" which is a Federal felony. Someone I know threatened to kick another guys ass over the phone and was promptly arrested under this statue. It turned into serious sh!t.

Finally some sound advice, I don't know what the f the rest of you are thinking with such brillian ideas as "kick his @$$ first" and "fix the computer" the guy is unstable he has made threats, the sooner he gets these documented the better. Should the worst start happening the police will have a good indication of where to begin looking. I hope that guy is prepared to go to jail over a computer.

Once he'll get out of the hospital in 4 years you let em put him back in there again immediately, and see if that taught him anything.

Yeah, sure I'll go to jail, but in about 10 years when I'm getting out, *hopefully* you will be comin out of you coma. And guess what? I'll come back and do it again. Why? because I'm stupid and don't give a fvck about jail."

Funny stuff.

Also, people keep mentioning Florida. If the "goon" in question lives in FL as well, florida sometime last year passed a law that all the counties have to have their public (criminal) records searchable online and free. So if you know his full name, you can search for his county and the clerk of the court records will be there for you to peruse. With an attitude like that, sounds like he should have an entertaining history... And of course if he DOES have a documented shady past, printing out this info as well would certainly back your case up with the police if you chose to go that route.

As in "here Mr. Officer is the threatening note I got from x, and here is a printout of his past run ins with the law to demonstrate that I really should be worried"

Yes, contact the police.

This guy sounds like a f*cking freak.

Contact the cops. That is correct action.

Stick to your guns. Read your original post and go to the police. Get a restraining noting that a threat from one person for others to harm you was sent to you. Let the police handle it. It is a pain and burden to worry about but the further you can space yourself from the situation the better. Good luck!

This is why I don't fix computers outside my immediate family. Most morons screw up their own computers, and within a month they're going to be calling you expecting you to fix it.

i once received a threatening message the left on my cell phone
i went straight to the police station and let the police officer listen to the
message he recorded the message and save it in a tiny little tape.
I felt better after visiting the police
they couldn't help anything but if something really happens to me
then they would know where to chase.
Just my experience
