This is dumb advice. You sold the computer at cost and "as is." Don't let yourself get bullied over this. If she didn't like the terms of the contract she agreed to, then she shouldn't have bought it from you.

Go on with your life and stop building computers for other people.

There's a lady I used to work with (and even goes to the same church as me) who keeps asking me to do some "side work" for her start up family business. Normally I would entertain the idea, but another friend from church has done some construction work for the family and had a load of problems getting any sort of payment out of them.

Then i read this thread.

From now on I will fix my mother's computer, and that is all.

Oh ya, and call the cops like everyone is telling you to do.

Just get some friends in even lower places to pay him a visit.

Once he'll get out of the hospital in 4 years you let em put him back in there again immediately, and see if that taught him anything.

basically his threats, since he is a big guy and can obviously do something about it, meaningful... since he is a larger fellow and is threatening you i believe that falls under assault if i'm not mistaken

the fact that it's written down helps a lot too.. assault (in my understanding) is a threat of some kind that is capeable of being carried out.. aka "i'm gunna hit you with this bat" (while guy is holding a bat)... or "i'll pound your face in" (when you are smaller than the guy by 3 inches and 75lbs)

i'd be making sure he knew this and that if any action was taken by him or his friends in low places (that would obviously be persuaded by him to commit acts) that you have proof of him having a motive and his threat

the whole warranty thing also comes down to "terms of trade"... if the term "manufacture's warranty" in the trade is considered and understood by most members of the trade to mean "company that physically created the device" (which it does) then he has NO.. and i mean ABSOLUTELY NO basis for his complaint that the gf/wife didnt know that's what it ment...

disclaimer : i took a semester of business law with the hardest teacher at my university and ended the semester with a VERY high "B"... 89%... i am not a law expert nor do i claim to be one.. i am only stating what i believe to be true from my understanding of the things taught to me from my brother in law (a securities lawyer) and from this extremely hard teacher

well you could say you'll fix his computer and then set him up by putting certain types of illegal files (figure it out) on his computer then report him. you'll have to use a program to change the date and time stamps though to cover your tracks. people in jail don't like pedophiles too much i bet.

Jeez, I wonder if anyone has ever been shot over refusing to fix a guy's computer. I'd stick with calling the cops...but if you're so inclined, a gun is a VERY expensive way to maintain your safety. However, there's no time for classes/training sessions, so I'd recommend that you just forget about a firearm for now.

Guns are a fake sense of security. The end.
They seem to work pretty well for the 2.5 million americans each year...

Maybe you should fix it....and leave something behind on the harddrive.

Maybe some kind of software bomb that goes off later....perhaps triggered by you. :D

With his personality, based on your accounts, I would think all of his "friends in low places" dislike him too.

He's just that; a big bully with fake friends.

However, with that aside, you should invite him to set up an appointment with you when it's available for YOU. That's how Dell and other reputable manufacturers do it and that's how it's going to be.

Of course, if he didn't pay for your extended warranty plan, you can charge him whatever you want.
Either he agrees to that or he gets troubleshooting help elsewhere (maybe Best Buy or CompUSA).

Above all, you should maintain being reasonable (don't resort to his tactics and dirty tricks). From the looks of things, he's the one being unreasonable and no jury in the world will side with him.

You have to realize that some people go through life thinking they can bully people into doing whatever they want. If they sound mad and crazy, people will give in. So you can either give in, or go to the police. Go to the police, tell them you feel threatened by this guy. They'll probably let you file a restraining order. My brother, who worked as an air conditioner technician was recieving threats from some guy over some work he did. Threatening messages, phone calls, driving by his house, that kinda stuff. He went to the sheriff, who helped him file a restraining order, asked him if he had a gun (he has several) and told him to just be vigilant. Lock the windows, doors, all that. His parting advice was, if you shoot him on the lawn, make sure to drag him into the house before I get there.

Don't let some ass bully you. Doesn't matter how big or bad he is, watch some True Stories of the Highway Patrol and see how fast a .357 Sig will drop a 6'7" linebacker.

The phrase I live by.

It's better to die on your feet,
Then to live a lifetime on your knees.

But in this case
It's better to sue and put this a$$hole in jail,
Then to become is b**** and fix his computer.

You know the world is crazy when you have a better chance of being shot as a computer tech than as a rap star.

It is interesting that your friend would be living or dating a guy 48, he is at the magic age where his IQ is equal to his age.

I have worked a little with law inforcement and do not contact him or her in any way, do not offer anything. Print out the mail and all the properties on the mail. Take it to the county atty and the police department and file for a protection order against both of them. Do not do anything yourself that might be considered a threat or harrassment by you it will just fudge things up for you.
Let the legal system do the dirty work for you. Do not be afraid of the jerk. When you go for the protection order be sure that you mention that harrassing and threatning phone calls were made and back that up with the e-mail.
Him and her will crap when they get the order served on them by the law inforcement responsible for servicing these documents.
If it were me personally I would complain to his employer that you suspect the mail was sent from his workplace and if it does not stop you will get a protection order against them also.
DO NOT wimp out on this if you do you will regret it for the rest of your life. Stand up and be a man dont let nutcakes like him or her jack you around. You have the power to stop him dead in his tracks with the protection order and if he or she violates the order to jail they go. Do no let them intimidate you if you start life letting bullies get to you it will never end.

Good Luck

quite some time ago i had posted a question/poll asking if anybody had been on the wrong end of a search warrant. i was just curious at the time, but this sort of thing you are having done to you was what i was accused of doing, actually my accusations were just name calling, not threatening. the evidence against me came back negative. if i were you, i would definately contact the police. people are f*cked up these days, let the people who are trained to "protect and serve" do their job.
