even if it is a disease, I don't see how liking butt sex somewhow means you can't fire a gun.

Thats not the point. It lowers morale.

I'm in the military, explain to me how it lowers morale becaus i don't get it.

You dont get what?

How it lowers morale.

If you were a woman and froced to sleep with someone you werent involved with or even possibly repulsed by, would it affect your morale? If you were a woman and forced to shower with a man would that affect your morale?

Oh fvcking please, we don't sleep in the same bed, we sleep in the same room, if you can't take that you are not military material.

On a sub you do something called hot sheeting, 3 shifts per bed. Torpedomen often sleep under torpedoes with matresses against one another, very small matresses, almost shoulder to shoulder. Many places the showers are open, no stalls.

So take your "Oh fvcking please" and ( insert derogatory comment here)

😉

Oh, btw. 4 years, honorable discharge here.

Hey, I'll take a beer any way it comes.

I respect that some might be uncomfortable with 'bunking in close quarters' under some circumstances, but I tend to think that's a problem better solved by education than discrimination (sorry about the rhyme, I'm not trying to write a slogan here). And even if you would advocate removing openly gay men from these particular assignments, you still wouldn't have a convincing argument for excluding them from the military altogether, you would simply have an intermediate level of discrimination to be brought down at a later date.

Apparently it didnt lower yours, being a member of a foreign military, but it lowers others who would rather not be hit on by gays while trying to do their job. They also dont want to shower naked with those pervs. But again that didnt affect you (I guess you liked being ogled?), but it affects others differently. And they shouldnt have to put up with it - thus the longstanding laws against openly gay people in the service. You can go in, but if you come out, you get thrown out.

Foreign to you but i was in Afghanistan and Kosovo so i did chew the same dirt as the American soldiers.

They don't, with those "pervs", ok, i assume you know this as you have a longer history in the service than me, and have spent more time on the ground with American soldiers than me.

I don't give a fvck, i really don't, why would i? I didn't even think about it in the unisex showers, obviously YOU are the perv with the naughty, naughty ideas, go out and get laid instead (if you have a wife, it doesn't matter, divorce her and get laid, you obviously need some). I am secure enough in my own masculinity to be able to take a shower next to a female or homosexual male and not get sexually aroused, you obviously lack that ability, and because you, who are not in the service lack that ability, others should damn well pay the price.

IOW, STFU, you have no idea WTF you are talking about.

My ignorance? Because i am not in the same situation as you were and because you are overly "sensitive" and don't like to be anywhere near a homosexual?

Ok, if that makes me ignorant, then i am proud to be ignorant.

(this was ment to contain a derogatory remark, but i have a hard time justifying one towards someone who has served)

Until then gays are sissies by definition they have no discipline and are weak.
If a gay has discipline then he can prove it by not saying he is gay for his tour of duty and that way he will not be discharged.
If gays were allowed to be openly gay in the military they would be having big gay orgies in the barracks and sexually harrassing the heterosexual members of their units. This would be degrading to real fighting men. Yes I do believe also that some of the same reasons should prevent women from serving as well. The difference is if women in the mlitary are hitting ont he men it is good for their morale.

Troll, troll, troll your boat....

Idiot calls everyone a "troll", yet, doesn't know the meaning of the word. d0y I suppose the mere fact that he has over 30,000 posts says alot.... He has no life.

Now THAT is ironic, you just refuted his "troll" remark with a troll post.

You are borderline kook, a few more posts like your previous posts and you are there.

I have no idea what Im talking about? Your just pissed off because I told you off. Now as you like to put it - go to hell.

the thing that straight men don't tend to understand is that as a gay male, I have absolutely, 100% no sexual interest in a straight male.

for comparison... it'd be like a straight male having a sexual interest in a butch, mannish lesbian.

If there is ever a draft, and I get pulled in...I'll just say I'm gay.

Problem Solved, and I didn't have to run to Canada 😀

First thing people always say is "what a gay guy cant pull a trigger?" no that has nothing to do with it.

then theres "what the other guys dont feel comfortable with a gay guy around?" get real, this is 2004, everyone, yes even servicemen, have plenty of gay friends and/or family.

What it really comes down to is uniformity, civilians have a hard time understanding this because we are brought up to "be ourselves", and "express ourselves" and to "not conform" as the popular culture puts it. In the military, everyone wears the same clothes, the exact same way, they walk and talk the same way, they are trained from day 1 to think as a group, a platoon is even expected to "think" the same, and this is key to survival. If something happens, I know that everyone on my team is thinking the exact same thing I'm thinking. If a hot girl in a miniskirt walks by, I know what the guys in my platoon are thinking, because im already thinking the same thing. We also need to know what eachother FEELS, emotions can be a dangerous thing to play with. Would a man crying out in agony have the same effect on a gay man as a woman crying out in agony for the rest of us? I dont know, but it scares me to think it could have an emotional rift in a warfighting platoon.

You also have to realize that they shower in groups of 60 or more, there are no walls between the comodes, they eat and sleep together. In Afghanistan, there were two men to a sleeping bag on some patrols to cut down on the amount of gear they had to carry. I've lived in fighting holes for weeks, in that environment its not uncommon for two men to share a toothbrush, and in some cases even thier underwear.

Funny, this best post in this thread gets ignored for silly drivel....great post train sorry no one else took the time to read it.

Fuuny, I thought I wrote a response to that one - and I agree it's one of the best in this thread. Can't see one from me anywhere so I must be wrong.

nice post Train.

Anyone who's so sensitive he gets scared or nervous, or whatever, from showering in the same room as a gay guy has no business holding a weapon of any sort.

If a hot girl in a miniskirt walks by, I know what the guys in my platoon are thinking, because im already thinking the same thing. We also need to know what eachother FEELS
What if that's a white babe and some guys in the platoon prefer Asian chicks, and don't like white chicks? You gonna kick them out?

A lesbian chick nagged me and another straight guy into tagging along to a homo bar once.
I spent quite a bit of time talking to some friend of her, I didn't know him, but he was a very nice guy, definitely not a sissy or anything like that, and I fail to see what the big deal is?
Heck even if he'd been starring at my ass when I went to the bar for a drink, who cares? What harm does that cause me? And most of all, who am I to complain, I look at chicks asses all the time.
Doesn't hurt them, and it makes my view a little nicer 🙂

hahaha this is a pretty good post, too. long live the miniskirt.

i think they lose their benifits too. sad way to treat troops we are supposed to honor these days. esp those that have risked life and limb. gays are vets you can spit on still.

As a military member myself, I tend to agree with the other posts. If you can't handle the presence of a homosexual, it's you that has the problem not them. I can say that I've served with at least two lesbians that I know of outright and both were damn fine soldiers. I have no problem showering around anyone, especially in a field environment when that's all you got. The way I look at it is, there are two types of people in this world, men and women, and if by the time you've joined the military you haven't seen both sets of equipment at some point in your life, it's time to learn. I mean c'mon! It's a penis, a vagina, some breasts and buttocks people! What is the big fvcking deal with it all? Hell, as an MP, our basic training is co-ed. When we did our week in the field, I bathed every night out of my canteen cup right outside my tent in the woods. If a female saw me, so be it. In war you see far worse than the natural human form. I'd venture a guess that a disfigured, mangled human corpse if far more disturbing than a living, breathing, naked human. If you can't handle either, you simply shouldn't be in the military. That goes for those that are homosexual and can't shower with heterosexuals and those that are heterosexual and can't shower with homosexuals as far as I'm concerned. If you can't handle the problem going either direction, you're not a good fit for morale and esprit de corps in the first place.

I'll admit outright that when I was younger (about 10 years ago) I had a gay guy that had a crush on me. Being young and somewhat immature, I handled the problem totally wrong and made threats to him. Thinking on it later, he didn't hardly know me in the first place and I guess it was worth it to him to ask if I was interested just as I would ask a woman I don't know only to find out I'm not even close to her type of man. Granted, being hetero and lovin' the ladies I was taken aback and repulsed by it at the time, but I can see the error of my ways now.

As I am now married, I'd have to say that if I had to share bunks/close quarters with a gay male or a hetero female and either of them grabbed my ass in the middle of the night, I'd let either of them know I'm not interested, it was inappropriate and it should not happen again, but it's no cause to get drastic on anyone. There's plenty of women's asses I want to grab from time to time, but I just don't do it because if it's not asked for, it's not wanted. Too many people read too much into this stuff and are too narrow minded about it in the first place. Everyone is quick to take sides on an issue and not budge.

BTW, you all do know that according to the UCMJ, even consensual, oral sex between a male and a female is against the law, right? As is male to female anal sex and any other form of "sodomy." So hell, it's damn near illegal to be a healthy heterosexual person according to the UCMJ. Granted, no one enforces that law unless it's related to a crime of some sort, but it's spelled out clearly in there.

Perhaps you're the gay sex magnet that you claim to be, but you might want to contemplate the possibility that you're not and stop worrying about it.

Actually, that post was a lot of words with no truth to it, if that idiot is actually a service member he SHOULD know that sexuality has no place in the military.

I read it and dismissed it in the same breath.
