In my experience and the experience of many other people who've really pushed themselves hard, Gatorade (and powerade is at least as bad) greatly encourages vomiting when under serious duress (it depends on the person, though, personally whenever I do a race I dilute it substantially if I use it at all). It is mostly sugar, maybe it's a bit better than coke, but not massively. Its electrolyte content is mildly significant but not terribly much. Endurance athletes generally opt for additional electrolytes (and, to be clear, you don't need to worry about electrolyte supplementation at all unless you're really sweating like a stuck pig for a long time). Also, many do in fact drink coke. Sports-drinks sound a lot better than soda but are not actually that much better.
HEED by Hammer Nutrition is a bit more costly, and you may have to buy it in local bike/running store or online, but it's head over heels better than Gatorade. It has a subtle taste that's not over the top, but like I said, you really don't need any energy drink unless engaged in serious activity for an extended duration. I guess if you play soccer you would qualify!
