What's so ghetto about his setup? He's got a 5.1 PROJECTOR setup, and he actually has the speakers positioned correctly...or good as possible for a small room.

I think he did very well.

Let's see your setup...or should I say Mom&Dad's TV, since you probably live at home, right?

Yeah, it was pretty tough to fit everything in here an still look pretty neat. Getting the projector at a reasonable throw distance and height without keystoning the heck out of it took some doing.

If you are going to use the wall, maybe think about painting it with "projector" paint?

Yeah, I've seen Mississippi Mud and a couple others recommended over at AVSforum.

I do have a screen right here on the floor next to me though, so if I want to improve upon the wall, I'll probably just mount that (it's like within an inch of size of the wall section right now).

We need to get a stud finder though before we mount the screen (and especially the projector mount :Q)

My two housemates besides my gf compensate for the negative impact on partying that we have on it.

Note: parties will not be occurring anywhere near this room.

I do love me some good HT! Since you don't drink, have a :cookie:!

How have you liked your Auras? I've been thinking about getting some transducers myself. Any comments on yours?

:) Thanks.

I don't have the Auras set up yet here in Madison :(

They're actually attached to my two old loveseats that were originally going to be in here. So, they're screwed into the loveseats and the loveseats are accidentally locked in our garage here and we don't have a key, lol.

We'll get them out eventually.

On a related note, while watching Jurassic Park last night, you know that part where the T-rex is coming and the water is vibrating and someone says "Do you feel that?". My girlfriend looked at me and said "No". She misses the bass shakers too ;)

I think the bass shakers were a great addition for around $100 total. They're great for action movies. When I saw Star Wars Ep. 3 in the theaters I really missed them a lot. All the explosions felt like they were missing something.

They're not a replacement for a good sub, but they add a whole dimension to things. I almost feel like I have a 5.1.4 system :p

If you want to know anything more about them, ask away.

Now that my home theater is out of a dank basement I thought I'd show it off again :p

The wall above the fireplace is almost perfectly 16:9 (excluding the power outlet right above the mantel) so I'm using that for now... might even skip the screen all together because the wall looks great already compared to the last wall it was on.

Also, a DIY projector mount is in the works, so the ugly white projector stand will eventually be a thing of the past :)

Well, here's the pics

At least you got your priorities straight.

Ghetto furniture + entertainment system = teh win!

I'm not exactly hurting for bass since I've got an SVS 20-39CS+ but, really, can you ever have too much tactile action going on? I thought not!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your Auras? And what kind of wattage does that receiver driving them push?

I originally got them because I got hooked on tactile action with my PB10 in my 10'x12' dormroom and needed to keep turning it down. With the shakers, I can get the seating vibrating without the sub at insane volumes.

I got them at partsexpress for $30/pair.

I'm driving them with a crappy Sherwood stereo receiver that's the bottom component on my stand. It's a 50watt/channel unit that I got off ebay for about $40 shipped.

On a standard input (like CD or whatever), I could turn the volume knob all the way up and it still wasn't really creating a lot of vibration. I'm sure I could have messed with the LFE output level on my receiver and turned down the gain on my sub to compensate, but instead I hooked up to the phono inputs on the bass shaker receiver so it works a lot better with the weaker signal. I have the LFE channel split so that one line goes through a nice quality cable to the sub and then the other end of the nice splitter goes to another crappy splitter to crappy RCA cables that run to the bass shaker receiver.

I have the volume on the bass shaker receiver at about 20% or 30% and it gives a nice effect without being overwhelming. If I turn the volume on the sherwood up to about 80% or so it ends up shutting itself off. It's way too much shaking at 50% anyway though, so I'm happy with it.

Whatever you do, make sure whatever powers them has an easy control for the volume/power output. I have to fiddle with it a little depending on the movie so I get the right level of shaking for the particular soundtrack.

Uhhh... whenever you get to Madison?

What about me? I'm in Lax and make trips to Madison every once in a while. You should come down here for Oktoberfest. I don't drink either, but it can still be a good time. You could also make suggestions on my HT setup. So far I've got the Denon AVR-1902 reciever, and Pinnacle Platinum speakers.

If you're in the area, stop by.

I'm not big on "fests", sorry (I was fest-ed out by my family).
