9 cell battery

Better than six cell, though not as good as my HP's 12-cell :)

You got a good deal except for the RAM, that's why I got the minimum 512 and I'll upgrade through NewEgg/ZZF.

I dont think you will regret it. I have a similar config that I bought for 1750. I got the 15" screen. I love it. Perfect for work/school, and I found out it can even play Battlefield 2142 (windowed mode).

I would have liked the beautiful ThinkPad T60 with 15" FlexView but I didn't get it for these reasons:

1) Going from a Dell 700m 12.1 to 14.1 is already a drastic jump as is.

2) Cost

3) Better battery life with the smaller 14.1"

Going with 14.1" and GMA 950 should give me a little extra juice with the 9 cell battery.

Otherwise I would have LOVED the 15.0" FlexView but size/battery life are more important to me.

looks like an ok deal. ThinkPad's do charge a bit of a premium but they go a long way. my friend has a ThinkPad from like 1998 (P3, 384MB RAM) and it still works great today. ThinkPad's are durable and you got a good deal.

BTW, does anyone know about the quality of the Lenevo line? aren't they manufactured by the same factories and all?

if you are that truly dedicated, keep the laptop. something inside of you wanted the laptop. you will not regret it. learn everything about the laptop and the OS that came with it. you have nothing to hold you back from using the notebook the way you want to. work and study are some of the best options. keep studying, it will enhance your brain. best of all, you should feel happy that you got such a nice laptop, some people will dream of being in your spot. so never fear, and never look back.

It looks a little pricey but not TOO bad. I wouldn't get it for work since it's overkill.

Not really... we use these as our work laptops as well. basically its gonna be the bare minimum spec to run our Vista push coming later this year.
everything older than the T60s getting trashed.

It's a thinkpad though. It's not like sony we're you're paying for the brand name. Thinkpads won't fall apart on you, are tough and customer service is top notch. well woth it. More for business and less for the budget concious

Once you get the notebook in hand, you can either pull the keyboard to check the PN or there is a place online where you can put in your serial number & it will list all of your parts specifically. Search thinkpads.com, I don't have it bookmarked unfortunately.

Possible dumb question: Since I am going to China, will this laptop be cheaper there? Since Lenovo is now Chinese made?

It won't have anything to do with the fact that Lenovo primarily operates in China, but they are a U.S. owned & operated company. You will however find lots of Lenovo technology products that aren't available in the U.S. Not sure how prevalent ThinkPads are in China, but they are pretty popular in Japan. Enjoy your Asian-character keyboard & operating system if you do purchase there :)

To answer your question, I believe it will be a function of the supply/demand over there along with currency conversion, having little to do with Lenovo's main market.

You did use FC to save 7%, right?

That's a savings of $107.37

I ordered through some special employee pricing so it didn't qualify for FC (the website URL was different, directlenovo.com). I priced the same laptop through lenovo.com and it came out to close to $2k before tax.

I also priced the Dell D620 and the same specs came out a couple hundred over. I would have gotten the lower proc but it didn't give it to me as an option. I bit because of it's fully loadedness and the 3 year warranty.

Most electronic goods are cheaper in the US than anywhere in the world. Does not matter where it was made.

I agree that Thinkpads are great laptops, but disagree on the "great customer service" after my recent experience.

To summarize: I have 5 thinkpads: 4 T22/T23 and 1 T30. The T30 had the memory problem which IBM had a recall for; my laptop was one month out of warranty, called CS explained the situation, and they wouldnt honor the recall saying that it had "expired" and wanted to charge me $425 for a new system board that would recognize both slots of memory.

I am going to just buy stick of 1GB ram but big  for IBM/Lenovo CS
