Oil companies have TONNES of money, they need no help from the government - if anything, it's the government that's inhibiting them with enviromental restrictions - IIRC, bush is trying to have some of the restrictions dropped to allow for more refining capacity.

Then we find out that he is actually a software developer, and you guys still bash him like he deserved to get outsourced. The cons keep telling us that education is the answer, but if someone spends thousands and years getting programming education, and then the companies don't even think they are worth paying $22 for and fires a whole group, then what do you now say Americans should do? No matter what we learn, we aren't going to be 10 times more productive than a third world worker.

actually thats pretty much how the government broke up the steel monopoly after ww2.

I listed those as options to prove a point. I didn't say that he should do those thise things.

I predict in the next 15-30 years oil won't be as important in the US or EU. and we'll be telling the arab countries to F off. Just like we tell the african countries.

it will just be important to developing countries and oil wil be harder to drill for, so prices will be higher after adjusting for inflation.

Companies like Sprint, Dell, Chevy, etc. pay out millions of dollars a year (easily) into campaigns to get people elected who will look the other way as American jobs are sent to other countries where the companies can easily circumvent OSHA and minimum wage laws.

The only way we're going to stop this (And many other similar "hot" topics) is to get these special interests out of politics.

OP, sorry you lost your job but blaming anyone except Sprint is going to get you nowhere. Complain to your state's senator and your local representative while you're at it - get as many of those 1100 people to write in as well. Maybe you can make a difference.

There's no reason to not blame someone. Just place the blame in the right place. Blame the CEO of Sprint who thought this was a good idea. Blame the Congress and Senate for proposing and passing the legislation allowing for the offshoring of jobs (NAFTA?). Blame the President who didn't veto it (I believe Clinton, but maybe earlier).

Point is, offshoring jobs is law and has been long since before GWB was in office. The ball, unfortunately, is not in his court on this one. It's up to the congress and the judicial branch to overturn it; but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Why should we just sit idly by as our jobs are sent overseas and suck it up? Americans should look after themselves politically. If they need to take political actions to protect their jobs, that's what they should do. Protectionism, subsidies and tarrifs should not be off limits, if that's what it takes. Other countries subsidize healthcare, housing, etc for their citizens, but Americans have to be able to pay for all these things, and still be competitive? What's good for corporations is not always good for the workers. Sometimes, but not always. So if he wants to change the leadership in Washington for being ineffective in addressing these issues, that's his right, and he should do it.
