Just had my first dealings with Chase customer support

I've always had good experiences with Bank of America. Almost no hold times, reps are polite and quick, pretty much always feels like a good experience.

I just called into Chase for the first time and they are terrible. Reps aren't kind, they're slow, hold times are higher. I got transferred three times and once I finally got to the proper rep I had her on speaker. She says "sir I can hear you, are you there?", I pick up the phone and immediately say sorry about that, and she just hangs up.

Not looking forward to the next time I get to call in, bleh.

Chase is evil. Everybody knows this. Where have you been?

I've never had a problem with Chase.

Neither have I. I've been banking with them for almost 6 years and I just opened up a credit card with them and I've had no problems whatsoever.

Chase nerfed their Freedom program so I'm not too happy with that. But I've never had issues with service.

Chase significantly lowered my credit card's APR on request. Customer support was satisfactory when I made the call.
Also they've kept my APR nice and low over the past year when other card issuers ratcheted up rates.

No complaints here.

I never had a problem with them until a couple days ago. My balance was always due around the 17th, and I just pay my bill online every month a few days before the due date. Well, I didn't bother opening my paper statement and logged in on the 11th to pay. I find out they changed the due date to the 10th and hit me with a late fee of $39. I have never had a late fee or paid interest on any of my cards so I was pissed. I called CS and was told there was no way they could refund the late fee. I asked for the supervisor, admitted that I screwed up by not checking my statement, but felt that it was unfair. She refunded it right away. Overall I am still a happy customer.

No kidding. They're getting canceled and American Express Blue Cash is taking their place in my wallet. Not sure if Chase really thought this one through, as I can't be the only one just a bit peeved about this change. We (my wife and I) pretty much used this card for everything and that included several of our bills.

Oh well, thankfully I should be able to get my final $250 check before the June 30th cutoff.

What do you mean by nerfed? I'm still on the Freedom program and it seems to be working.

FWIW, I haven't had a problem with Chase customer support.

3% cashback is only good if you submit to a $30 yearly fee (doesn't go into effect until June 30th, 2010). Bonus $50 on your $200 check redemption is gone as of June 30th, 2009. 3% cashback only applies to certain categories instead of your three highest each month. Basically they nerfed it enough that's it's no better than any other bank's rewards program now. I just got the letter in the mail about a week ago myself.

For me, I never carry a balance, but I charge anything I possibly can to maximize cashback rewards. The Chase Freedom was the best until said nerfing happened, and my wife and I made several hundreds of purchases on that card per year. Not sure what transaction fees are for Visa, but surely the $100 or less they're saving on rewards for me can't be worth loosing me as a customer. I'm sure some bean counter saw it differently though.

I remember I was one day late with my Chase Amazon Visa, asked for a one time waiver of the late fee, and they acted like I had just murdered their first born. I have an auto loan, and several other accounts with them that I've had for years, and this had been the first time I've ever been late on a CC payment. Just google chase customer service to see all the horror stories about them. They're okay to deal with, just so long as you never have to call them about anything (ala Sprint).

in my opinion, amex gives the best cust service. but i never had too much problems w/ chase. i never had any issues too seirous w/ chase either though.

I'm pissed about that cutoff. I'm sure you got the same mail touting their exciting new features. Exciting for them maybe. Dropping me from 3% to 1% and cutting off that $50 bonus when I will have ~$170 in cash back rewards by the June 30th cutoff sucks. I'm half tempted to go on a spending spree to get to that $200 level. But that would mean spending about $6000 in the next month just to save $50. I won't do that of course.

Oh well, I've gotten $500 from them already and that $170 more isn't half bad either.

One workaround would be to upgrade to the Chase Freedom Plus, which is what I have. I haven't received the mailing for my version of the card, plus i get 3% back in my top 6 categories. Although it won't solve the extra $50 bonus, since that's going away for everything.

I'll look into that. Right now I have the Freedom Visa Signature card. From what I can tell the "Signature" portion is virutally useless. It means I'm entitled to pay them for concerge services if I choose.

When I read the title, I had to post, "I'm sorry" Chase is terrible. Wamu reps were very good, but now that it's Chase, it's like Bank of the Northern Hemisphere.
