A big thank you to all those on here who convinced me not to go with the Acer, despite however rude and insulting you may have been!

This is a *sweet* computer. For those who don't remember the specs, here they are.

Mini Review:

Screen: The screen is ridiculously superb. I recommend the truelife(tm) screen - it is so incredibly sharp and amazing. Its really that good.

Speed:Its blindingly fast. The duo-core is great, though I doubt that my awe of the computer has anything to do with the dual core, but the fact that its been the first computer I've ever used equipped with 2gb of ram. Though I know nothing of the duo-core architecture and purchased it only because it is "the next big thing", I have sneaking suspicions that the architecture is not even being made use of with this setup

Build: Coming from a Thinkpad, the build worries me a bit. And only 'a bit' because this laptop is not going to be portable - I purchased this as a desktop replacement, and nothing more. Had I bought this to take around, I'd be sh*t-scared of it breaking. It's obvious why IBM are as coveted as they are for their build quality - there is no creaking and flimsy feeling with them. The Dell has an inexplicable, flimsy feeling to it despite looking so sturdy. But maybe its because I've only had IBM's till now.

Keyboard: Considering the size of this monster, I consider the inclusion of a "laptop" keyboard to be an unacceptable decision. There is *easily* enough room for a full-sized keyboard. If Acer was able to include a numeric keypad with a desktop-sized keyboard, so should have Dell. A big con, in my book.

Considering that dell computers are completely customizable, how can you hate *them* unless you are referring to the manufacturer itself?

I'm not a Dell groupie by any means, but am impressed that they were able to deliver me the computer they did, for the price they did. IBM couldn't. Toshiba couldn't.

I purchased an HP desktop a couple years ago which was truly a POS. Thank god for the warranty I purchased and even then, getting the damn thing fixed was an exerecise in insanity.

They may have changed their game, but I'll *never* buy another HP, if only out of principle.

I have tried them all and Dell is the better solution than most.

I mean you can get the nice new lenovo ones, and they look awesome, but they don't support core duo, not the one's I've seen anyways.

Then you can look at gateways, HP, compaq, and Toshiba, which I have. They all suck compared to dell...not to mention that dell has the best service. I know that sounds crazy, but my large business account + premiere account = better than any other support I've ever gotten from any company. So, ya, Dell wins when it comes to support.

Not to mention that most "business" computers you buy only have 1 year warranty. All Dell optiplex and lattitudes have standard 3 year on-site warranty. As an IT manager, I just can't justify buying anything else anymore.

I really want that new Titanium IBM though...but oh well, I guess I gotta practice what I preach :)

Not to mention, You can get Dell laptops with sony screen now...which makes them even better :D

I'm curious, why buy a laptop if you have no intention of it being portable. Aren't you paying a premium for the portablility? No offense meant, I just would like to hear the reasoning.

I bought an HP laptop last year around this same time and have been really pleased with it (once I added 512mb ram... and upgraded to an 80gb hd.. ;) ). I just recently bought a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop(still in shipping somewhere, expected tomorrow), and my sister just got a B130. Compared to my old HP ZE4800, the B130 is a tank. The screen hinges are oily smooth, the screen is great (despite not being the TrueLife glossy thing), and it just feels really solid. It still probably won't last more then 6 months in my sister's hands, but oh well. If my i6K is as solid as the B130, I may have become a Dell convert

Edit: OP: VERY nice machine for a VERY nice price.

~$1302 shipped and mine just got here. ($650 off $1999 and the stackable $100 off $1799 from that one night last weekend and 3% FC and 2% DPA....not to mention about $13 in CC rewards)

Core Duo T2300, 1GB 533, 100GB 5400, 7800 Go, WUXGA TrueLife, Intel pro NIC, and the Dell backpack carrying case.

Will open and give my impressions tonight. I'll also take pictures.

my 2005 is great

It's great as a first panel, but if you have any better panels, you will think Dell panels BLOW.

I have a 2405 versus a Viewsonic VP191b (19") and I think the 2405 is a POS. I don't have backlighting issues either..

Basically, I think AT is often extremely biased that it hurts more people than it helps. See all the people recommending Dell 2005s and 2405s? See all the people recommending Seagate 7200.8s? LoL
