Hahaha don't bother putting it on your resume because once a manager sees "DeVry University" it will go straight in the trash.

Proof? Maybe we should go ask Lockheed Martin or maybe a manager at Intel

The problem is now cause of the job market is so competitative in technical sector that your competiting with others graduates with more "established" universities graduates.

Experience is still more important but if you have none, they will look at your degree, internships etc.

What do you mean experience? I am going to college to get experience and do plan on getting internships. I am assuming you have not going to any of these mentioned "established" universities or else you'd know how to spell competitive.

Yup, i'm terrible speller. <Shrug>. Bro, why are you getting all uptight. I know lots of guys who went to Devry and making a decent living. My buddy works for Boeing in the IT department, and he doesn't even have college degree or MCSE, etc. It was his experience that got him the job NOT HIS EDUCATION.

I wish I could find a job like that 😉

Bill

Temp agency, he work his ass off to show Boeing he knew his sh*t. Boeing bought out his contract with the temp agency. That is unheard cause of buy out cost. He has been there for over 5 years.

Whats funny now is that Boeing pays for his education and he is now enrolled in a "trade" school but for cooking/baking. He wants to be a pastry cheif.

I don't feel that you deserve a response to your idiotic statement/question.

Where the fvck else is an 18 year old high school student supposed to live? Can't move out of range of his high school because that'd be entirely too much work to transfer over all the paperwork at that late a stage, the only housing available in that area is going for $700k (brand new mansions).

Please, grow up. You strike me as the kind of person that has no business living away from his parents. Immature, nothing to do but attempt to belittle others from the safety of an online forum with a bajillion members. I've seen you make a constructive post maybe 10 times over the time I've been here. Then again, that is infinitely more than some people, but still, you hardly have room to talk. In other words, you act like a teenager.

Oh, and for the record, I was kidding with the guy in my first reply.

a fvcktard you are. After your first job, any job you apply to will take into greater consideration your work experience and what you have accomplished in a work setting. Heck, I've worked with people who've only had highschool diplomas... but for some reason, they are the best at what they do because they took it upon themselves to learn programing out of personnal interest rather than being forcefed it at a prestigious university.

I think the community college and transfer to a 4 year is a much better path.

DeVry is a for-profit institution. They did a segment on 60 minutes I think about these kind of schools. They basically let anyone in and wont fail people because they want your money.

I posted the link to the article on Page 1, but I dont think the OP has read it yet (asked questions answered in the article)

No offense, but I would go to community college and transfer to a better 4 year school.

What exactly do you mean, better? I am coming out of a community college.

My friend transferred from a local CC to UC Berkeley, but maybe my yardstick is too high.

I am proud of your friend, what about you.

I got into Berkeley straight out of high school, but decided to go to another 4 year college already mentioned in this thread.

Then don't talk sh!t about things you have no fvcking clue about. It's cute that you belittle others in this thread for making something of their lives while you sit in the comfort of a house that you don't pay for, eat food you don't purchase, and get insurance taken care of by your family. Once you 'grow up' like you said I should do (which is a fvcking knee-slapper, thanks), you'll realize the real world is a bitch. Do you know anything about this member's social/economic status? Is it fair to tear down his ambitions because it makes you feel better? I go after people on this forum who I feel need to set outside of their own element and look at things from a different prespective. You are a perfect example. I could go on and on about my own personal life and talk about things that you would sh!t yourself if you had to go through, but I don't feel the need to justify my existance to such a waste of life like yourself. Who the fvck are you to tell people that kind of sh!t when you're 18 years old. You don't even know what the real world is.

Grats!! :wine:

This is a great moment. Keep your goals high and learn all you can -- I forecast an outstanding and positive future for you

out of all the people giving this guy advice how many of you are working in the real world?

why do you feel the need to berate his decision...

im 100% sure he would rather have advice backed up with fact, whether its for or against, rather than people talking sh1t

HAHAHAHA! I swore I wouldn't comment in this thread again, but that is hilarious. Calm down... 🙂

Good luck.

One of my co-workers is getting his degree with University of Phoenix Online. He's a pretty good programmer with a high salary and no degree yet.

Cornell?

Apparently I'm not as smart as you, sh!t happens 🙂

Don't take it the wrong way. I thought you were going to DeVry from HS, and then going to CC and transferring to a better ranked school would make sense. But you should look into classes, professors, and whether they meet what prospective employers are looking for.

Congratulations.

No matter what people say a degree is a degree and it doesn't matter where you got it.

arcenite: Does your state have a policy where community college graduates can transfer to a state university after getting their associates? It may be cheaper than going to DeVry, and like others have said it will be easier to land a job when you graduate. Not that you'll necessarily be less qualified, but for-profit colleges have a bad rap with many employers.

In any case, congrats and best of luck

Congrats...

But what is your story?

How did you end up being a 40 year old man working at McDonalds?

yeah, and CET is not exactly a great degree to get if you are gonna put yourself through college. If you have time, try Computer Engineering, not computer engineering tech.

Congrats arcenite

First off congratulations to you if this is the school you really want to go to.

Having said that, did you look into community colleges and getting a transferable AA? It could end up saving you a good chunk of money and having more options on where you could transfer your credits into for post-bachelors schooling.
