Hahaha don't bother putting it on your resume because once a manager sees "DeVry University" it will go straight in the trash.

Proof? Maybe we should go ask Lockheed Martin or maybe a manager at Intel

Memo: Lockheed Martin offered me a job as a HS student. I politely declined the offer, but can supposedly just call this guy up at any time and jump on it. I just happened to be talking to one of their HR guys, who was doing some kind of PR thing at school and things came up. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to work there.

Only reason I mentioned it is because my grandfather (RIP) worked there

Oh, I thought you mentioned it because they used it in a commercial. I seem to remember one of those pissant schools using that (and Intel) in a TV ad.

I mentioned Intel because I was informed DeVry is "good enough" for Intel.

Where do you go to higher education currently? What's your GPA, job prospects?

The problem is now cause of the job market is so competitative in technical sector that your competiting with others graduates with more "established" universities graduates.

Experience is still more important but if you have none, they will look at your degree, internships etc.

What do you mean experience? I am going to college to get experience and do plan on getting internships. I am assuming you have not gone to any of these mentioned "established" universities or else you'd know how to spell competitive.

I am honestly very surprised all these people came out of the woodwork to tell me how bad this school is. The only reason i've been given is because it's not as "established" yet DeVry graduates seem to get jobs without a problem. Can anyone give me a reason that will actually affect me?

There are some cruel, cruel people here.

I think if you go to Devry with the objective of making the most of education, study hard, take tough classes, and get good grades, you will be more successful than the vast majority of Americans who go to college with the intention of attending football games and partying as much as possible.

For the record I went to Cornell University, and there were a good number of people there who wasted their time and amounted to nothing.

Good for you! Life is what you make of it and you're already doing more than a lot of other people.

Diplomas from "great" schools don't always equal lots of money. I have a cousin who graduated from a VERY good (and expensive) private college who is currently working in the Disneyland Parade driving a float. And on the other hand her brother fresh out of high school with no college education is making $16 an hour w/full benefits doing construction and moving his way up. Life is what you make of it. I have a two year degree from a sh|ttier college than Devry and I'm making more money than I thought I would be at my age. And I now have 5 years of very relevant experience in my field over some fresh grad from a university who has none.

Good luck.

I absolutely plan on making the most out of my education. Why else would I spend that kind of money to goto college? I appreciate your post.

I think the community college and transfer to a 4 year is a much better path.

DeVry is a for-profit institution. They did a segment on 60 minutes I think about these kind of schools. They basically let anyone in and wont fail people because they want your money.

My friend transferred from a local CC to UC Berkeley, but maybe my yardstick is too high.

The only people I see complaining about DeVry are the ones who have no first hand knowledge or experinece with it. The two or three people who do have first hand experience with either the school or its graduates, have said nice things.

Anyway, best of luck to you!

Thank you, this is the first explanation I've gotten. I do not plan on getting any free rides. I will deserve the grades I receive and it will show when doing my job.

Yup, i'm terrible speller. <Shrug>. Bro, why are you getting all uptight. I know lots of guys who went to Devry and making a decent living. My buddy works for Boeing in the IT department, and he doesn't even have college degree or MCSE, etc. It was his experience that got him the job NOT HIS EDUCATION.

DeVry is not going to have the same kind of professors and equipment as you would find in Phillips and Duffield Halls. So yes, compared to someone who slacks off at Cornell, he may be more successful, but compared to someone who takes full advantage of what Cornell offers, he will be at a disadvantage. The #1 thing I look for when I look at a resume of a recent grad are class projects done in college.
