Do You own a Console?

I used to be a console and PC player (back from the Space Quest and Atari 2600 days) but in the past few years I've gone to PC gaming only. I recently got a broken PS3 and replaced the laser on it, so it only cost me $50 total. (60GB, BC, etc)
I wouldn't have a console if this deal didn't come along. I sold my PS2 a couple years ago.
 
I don't understand why people would never get one. there are quite a few awesome games on PS3 (the console I own) that are amazing. Even on older consoles when I was growing up, there were tons of great games.

I bet most people here had a console growing up, like a NES or Super NES or Sega Genesis.
 
Don't own a console and never will. Of course with the direction games on PC are headed (more like console games) I can't say I'm all that excited about being a PC Gamer in the future either. Of course that's an extreme understatement, but I don't need to go into a rant about how much I can't stand dumbed down games, and of course ports.
 
I've always been gaming on consoles and PC's, I have a lot of favorite games on both sides. I tend to go for Japanese games on consoles though, nowadays I buy less console games because there are so many shooters out there.

The whole "I'm a PC gamer and I'll never get one" garbage is really silly. If you're that loyal to something you'd rather miss possible future entertainment than so be it.

I could understand the economic stand point though, say if you had a budget gaming rig you also used for other things. Intially, it would cost more than a console, but you could get a lot more out of it.

I just hate those douche bags who are all high and mighty about how PC gaming is so much better. I just counter with "so, you're saying God of War 3 is better on the PC?" or "How's Assassin Creed 2 coming along then?". Same thing goes for people who are like with but pro console as well.
 
Yup, own them all. PC is my fav platform to play on but I'm a gamer and I'll go where the games are that I want to play regardless if it is PC, console, or handheld.
 
Yes, I own both a 360 and PS3. I get games that are appropriate for consoles, and I get games that are appropriate for the PC.

I don't feel the need to be an elitist in preferring one platform over another, I just buy games and play them.
 
wii is fun, i have a bunch of older generation consoles that get playtime too.

for in person multiplayer, wii is great (rockband etc.) for online multiplayer (especially for the genres I like - RTS and FPS), consoles just cant compete with PC

DS rocks as well, use that whenever i travel.
 
XBox 360 and PC at my computer desk. PS3 and Wii in the living room. DS hidden away in my closet so my 6 year old doesn't swipe it 🙂. All have their place and I play a very wide variety of games on each.
 
I have several but it's been a while since I've played some of them.

I have an Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Bally Astrocade, Intellivision, Coleco Telstar Arcade, Fairchild Channel F, Odyssey 2, Colecovision, Coleco Gemini, Intellivision II, Sears Video Arcade II, NES, Sega Master System, Super Nintendo, Super Nintendo 2, Super Famicom, Turbo Grafx 16, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, Genesis 2, Genesis 3, Sega 32X, Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Atari Jaguar, NES top loader, Dreamcast, Playstation, Virtual Boy, Playstation 2, Nintendo Gamecube, X-box, Playstation 3, and a Wii.

That's all I can think of, not counting hand held systems of course. I know there a couple of those that don't work anymore, and a couple of others that I haven't played in a least five years, but most are in good working condition.

I've never really understood the PC vs Console thing, some games are better when played on a console and some games are better when played on a PC.
 
I own a PS3.

I have one game, Force Unleashed, which I bought with it.

I've watched like 3 movies on it.

Biggest waste of money ever.
 
I have a PS3 that mostly serves as a media box right now. Streaming videos to the PS3 works great with a program called PS3 Media Server. With that, you can stream pretty much any file type to it from your computer. I play games while my girlfriend watches a movie on the PS3, and I see no impact in performance.

I also use it a lot for Netflix. I like the instant movies and TV shows, and I also get blu rays in the mail.

I don't really game on it very much any more. There haven't been any PS3 exclusives that made me want to go out and purchase them as of late. Also, the good games are always $60 until a year or so after release, so buying PS3 games is just too expensive most of the time when the most I usually pay on PC is $30.
 
PS3 - use more for watching BD movies than gaming
Wii - use for party gaming, seldom play solo on it
PC - 80% of my game time

In the last 1,5 years (since I built my current rig) I've played a grand total of 5 different PC games. I like playing video games, but with the daily job and other ways to spend my off time, I spend little time playing them. There are tons of great PC games that I haven't played and almost certainly never will, so I really see no point in getting a console to have a wider choice. I can even be so picky so as to ignore all games requiring steam or some crappy DRM like StarForce. Another thing is that I can't stand the gamepad, I just can't get used to it.

That's pretty much it, I don't hate consoles or look down upon them, but I need the computer for other work, and since I can reuse it for the little gaming I do, I have no need for consoles. If that's unreasonable and impossible to understand, so be it...

I'd say that you have perfectly sound reasoning. Especially because it flies in the face of conventional consumer habits where the usual reasoning is "I have money so that must mean I have to spend it!" Just look at the threads around Steam sales and people that buy $5 games just because at that price, why not? Nevermind that they have a backlog of dozens of games they haven't yet played bought under similar conditions.
 
I have a PC (primary gaming device), and PS3 & Wii (both used equally for gaming), and a PSOne that occasionally gets dusted off. The PC and PS3 are both used as much for other things as gaming these days, but I do enjoy having all three.
