in order:

first ever play of Res evil: played it in HMV in London, stayed there till early hours, got over halfway through it in the store. was considering buyin a memory card there and then to save my progress.

quake 3 fortress: playing as medic on q3f_well, using my conc gren to fly accross the map, grabbing the flag on the way and landing in the doorway to our base, killing 4-5 blokes in the way through the base then concing across the main room and across the return point. nice :p

battlefield 1942 (demo): started as yank sniper, jumped in a plane, did a few bombing runs, took out the carrier. para'd outta the plane, and landed in one of the small ships.
drove that out to a distance and sat sniping everyone of the battleship, man they got pissed off. :D

Need For Speed High Pursuit! Man what a game. First time I ever out ran the cops (not that I ever tried before ;) ) When I unlocked the last Car it was on! Unstoppable! I Stayed up every night for two weeks and almost got fired several times, but it never stopped me from rushing home and loading it up.

My wife still brings up my lack of responsible behavior during that period three years ago. Mostly during arguments.

I'm gonna go with Half-Life on this one. That game was just so ahead of its time in the scripting and SP sequences. The headcrabs flying at you with that screech, the swarms of aliens ... the general feeling of "What the f***" when the machine goes hayware right at the start ...

Excellent game.

Hmm.. let me see... I've got quite a few, but this one definitely..

I had just gotten my two voodoo2 12MB cards and had the SLI setup.
Of course the game at the time was quake 2!!

On the first map (can't remember what it's called... it's been a while) I ran upstairs being hotly pursured by another guy (who claimed he was going to annhiliate me!!) from our college gaming club (so yes we both had great pings since it was a LAN game... aka no excuse for lag ;)!!)... so anyways.. I ran upstairs and grabbed the grenade launcher... jumped off the edge, and while in the air turned around and popped a grenade right in his face.... his next few messages were "WTF" ..."WTF".. "damn"... "good shot"... and NO I didn't fall to my death.. I did take a hard fall, but I was ready to get out the rail gun and show him what I was realy made off :)

Now that I think about it... I think the map was called "the edge"... hehe!!

Oh well... other moments include railing 3 players all at once with the same shot.
We couldn't figure out how it happened... but they were all pretty pi$$ed about it... hehe!!
Yup... the rail gun in Quake2 was da bomb... one shot.. no mercy!!

Sweetness,
Mer.
PS: My system specs at the time were:-
Cel 300a OC'd to 456Mhz
256mb PC100 ram
Maxtor 13gb 7200rpm
Matrox G200
Voodoo2 12mb x2 in SLI
Abit BX rev2 mobo (or something like that... you all know which one I'm talking about :))
Generic full tower case with 250watt power supply and a window fan for extreme cooling when gaming :D
Optiquest Q75 17" monitor
Cambridge works 4 point surround speakers
POS keyboard and mouse as I'd have a tendancy to way them around when I got fragged :D
Generic 52x cdrom... which sounded like it wa going to take off when installing games off CD.
BTC 2x CD burner.. which was SO awesome at the time... haha!!
Linksys LNE100TX network card.

It was a pretty HOT system at the time... and so I had bragging rights for a semester or so... hehe!!

There are many, here are some I remember:

- Anticipating Mario 64. Playing the kiosk in Toys R Us. Playing the actual game when I got it. Best game ever.

- The opening cutscene of Mechwarrior 2. Wow. And the game was awesome.

- Tie Fighter. Loved every minute of it, especially when you get to fly alongside Vader.

- Total Rambo action in Counterstrike. I was the last one on my team with no armor and a handgun (didn't buy anything cause I was poor). There were 7 terrorists left. I killed one, got his sub machine gun, and systematically took out the rest of the team (no camping either).

- Beating one of my roomates 68 times in a row in Virtua Fighter 4 (in one sitting)... and he doesn't even suck, usually we are evenly matched.

- Beatin all of Quake 3 on Nightmare skill level. I think I have a few demos of me 0wning Nightmare Xaero with the Railgun.

I'd have to say Half-Life still rules the roost in terms of a memorable single-player experience. My favorite moment was probably blowing up that damned helicopter!

In terms of multiplayer, my favorite moments were in Q2 mods (Q2 marked my introduction to online gaming). I got really good with hand grenades, and I liked playing Lithium (a mod with power-enhancing "runes" and a grappling hook). On many occasions, I would hook someone in the chest and pull them toward me, then toss a grenade right in their kisser as they got within a few feet, blowing them to bits.

I had a lot of great moments in Action Quake as well, especially when I was able to score a fatal headshot with my last bullet. Once I was able to get the sniper rifle and silencer, and take them to a killer hiding place where I was all but invisible - I ended up winning the match with 30 frags before anyone else broke 10.

In CS--Throwing a flash around a corner knowing there were enemy Ts there, blinding myself in the process, then jumping out like rambo and getting 3 headshots. Still blind, and lucky as hell. But I'll take it. :D

Playing age of empires/rise of rome rated games (before all the cheating) and winning off a couple of the top 10 ranked players.
