Me and a bud played 1942 on the NES for like 8 hours straight trying to beat it. After countless cokes and naughty words we finally got to the very end and beat it. We were rewarded with the best game ending ever!

Congruatulations

Game Over

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were both pretty pissed. How lame of an ending considering how much time we spent.

I remember the day I bought Half-Life because of a friend told me it was a kick-ass game. We went to my house and installed it also with my new Voodoo 3 2000 PCI video card and the graphics were astonishing. I still remember that train ride in the intro of HL.......how I had to teach myself to move with the keyboard and mouse. God, it was like I was giving birth to my own child.......:p :D

Well, there was this one game that my wife and I used to play, I'd get a feather and she......

Oh wait, you mean computer games. :Q

Well, I had a lot of good times on a private UT server. Friends and I would pop in to IRC setup a game, go in, pay for awhile, then pop back into IRC to boast and laugh at each other. One of the funniest was when we decided that we all would only use teleporters. There were times I was laughing so hard I couldn't do anything...One guy tried feigning during an Instagib match on a low gravity map. I remember him floating to the ground, and all these beams hitting all around him. It actually took a few shots before he was fragged. :D

Pretty lame, I know, and probably had to be there to get the full effect, but we sure had a lot of fun! :D

this just happened recently...
i was playing cs and had like 10 health left.... I was a CT and there was one T left.. it was on a custom map, de_athens i think.. or something like that.. i was on top of a building when i saw the last T standing beneath me.. so i sort of jumped of the building, stabbed him right before i hit the ground, killing him, and then I died hitting the ground... lol.. it was pretty funny....

In no particular order:

- Venturing into the dark maze portion of E1M2 of Shareware Doom for the first time while at home, soon after dowloading it off of SWC BBS @ 2400bps. This was a few days after "Doomsday" 12/10/93, when I was about to see what all the hoopla was about...

- Playing Sonic just after opening up my Christmas gift of a Sega Genesis. Felt nice to experience a little of what my friends had w/their NESs for so long that very night with this awesome, beautiful game...

- After having just installed a new Voodoo Banshee at a LAN party (replacing some 4MB S3Virge I think), loading up Q2. I never thought hardware 3D, crisp, vivid textures and models, and sophisticated colored lighting could mean so much before beholding them myself... WOW!

The voice saying "Duuuuuuune, the building of a dynasty." The opening video for Dune II was so awesome I couldn't believe it at the time. It made you get right into the game, which also rocked.

Wing Commander was a blast.

Other memorable games for me:
Ultima III, IV, and V. I lost interest while playing VI.
Countless hours lost playing Civilization
Playing Warcraft II for the first time. I couldn't play enough of that game.

Now I am just happy if I have time to play a game.

Beating a then-Japanese import SNES shooter called Axelay at a flea market shop in front of the store owner, who would eventually offer me a job at his new video game store.

I think that's one of the things that kept me hooked as well. I played quakeworld clan arena for years before I moved on to any newer games. "Clear water! OMFG!" ;)
I have never played a software game since then... only opengl and now thanks to bf1942 directx. Still say they should have made BF1942 OpenGL instead. :p

Someone annoying me and insulting me in a MUD, and me making a 'prison' which would block all his commands, and which would require a reboot of the server to get out (which wasn't due for another 3-4 days). He logged on a guest character to whine to an admin, but the admin decided he liked me more than him and chose to ignore him. Later I heard that that pissed him off so badly that he struck the wall so hard that he broke his hand.

How do you explain that to your friends? :p

My wife (girlfriend at the time) would lose her temper big time if the computer hit the fullcourt game winner as time ran out. It always seemed the computer would hit the game winner if given the chance.

As great as the new systems were, the best games that I remember were on the good ole NES. You cant deny classics like zelda bases loaded or blades of steel. My best friend and I got into a 2 hour fistfight when we were 6 over double dribble. I'll never forget the first time I beat contra.

And TECHMO SUPER BOWL RULES! Search for my post on it here in OT and LMK who you fav offensive player was.

First one that came to mind:

Opening up the last door in Wolf3D to see the final boss there with dual chainguns waiting to tear me up

Others that I thought of after reading this thread:

The day my first 3D accelorator arrived (16MB STB Velocity 4400, a TNT1 card (that wasn't neutered like the later models were)) and loading up the sIn demo in full 3d glory.

Playing JediKnight online (first game), up until this point, I was still using the keyboard to play fps's. No mouse. I beat the whole game like that I think, it's hard for me to even comprehend that now. Also was my first (and last) clan experience, I got booted because I had to go on a business trip to San Jose (which I notified the clan about ahead of time) for a week and couldn't make one practice.

JK introduced me to a lot of new stuff as a gamer. Circle strafing (before I played using the arrow keys, left/right were to turn), the mouse, and online play. I had this Supra modem with a led readout of my connection speed that I'd use so I could gauge how badly I'd lag.

I had a pretty memorable moment last fall playing RtCW. After watching the cutscene for the level where you're in the catacombs, I was seriously afraid to jump into the hole and start my trek. I didn't want to die at the hands of the undead :)

Heh Play much Contra for the NES?

I thought that Wolfenstein 3d was really cool the first time I saw it and then put the whole game on one diskette.

Warcraft 2 was a game that we spent countless hours playing on a lan and at single player.

Scorched Earth was a cheesy game but we had alot of fun with about 5 or 6 of us huddled around a small monitor back in the day. Lots of good memmories.

One of my first computer games was Leisure Suit Larry on a Tandy and my friend who had to show me the whole game.

My most memorable moment was this...

Final Fantasy 7, it was my first RPG I ever played.

Im going thru it, great game. AERIS DIES!!! OMG SEPHIROTH I HATE You!!!!

I shed a tear or two at that, very stunning. The music at that part was great!

What about you?
oh come on it wasn't that great. final fantasy 2 was soo much better. though the twists in that are better. aeris dying isn't a twist.
