So, you are totally for a judge using his/her religious beliefs to influence court proceedings?

I think you are missing the point.

For secular culture "muhhamed islam allah" might 'sound cool', but for a decent sized part of the population it's going to be obscenely offensive. Which sets the child of for being teased, bullied, etc.

There is so much wrong here.

I think the judge didn't go far enough. Should have taken the child away from the parents entirely.

I guess the lesson here is that if you don't want a judge to name your child don't engage in a 7 month court battle over the name of said child.

Government knows best.

What is your opinion about me naming my kid Fuck You Engineer?

Should a Judge have the authority to change the name of my kid from Fuck You Engineer to Fye?

She changed it because of HER religious reasons, not because it would cause harm to the child.

Big differance.

In other news "Apple", "Pilot Inspektor", "North West" ,and "Blanket" are perfectly acceptable.

They are definitely not, and it's sick that some parents mistreat their children for their own publicity. I'd wager the first thing some of these kids will do when they're of age is change their names.

I understand the judges thinking here, but I don't think she has the right to do this. This is similar to couple who gave their kids nazi names. In that case I think someone should have forced the parents to change the childrens names, but they should not have been taken from the parents. Here I do get the rationale, but this is a choice.

Actually if you read through the article she gave both reasons.

Was still an inappropriate ruling. The first name issue was never put before the court.

Where did the government get the power to regulate what we name our children?

The judge citing her own religious convictions as a reason for changing the child's name is directly a violation of the First Amendment. This should be reason enough to remove this judge from the bench honestly.

I don't believe the judge had the right to change the child's name, although I have to say, what the heck were the parent's thinking?

Of course, I'd have to say there have been a lot of stupidity with parents naming their children over the years. In first grade I had a friend who's name was "Donald Luck". The harassing this kid received was horrible. Then there came my 3rd grade class where fraternal twins were named George and Martha Washington.

I know it is the parent's right to name their kids whatever they want, but really! What was going on in these peoples mind when they decided on their children's names?

Messiah was No. 4 among the fastest-rising baby names in 2012

Gubmint better get busy if it's going to rename all of those kids.

I do think if a name is offensive enough the government should step in for the well being of a child, but I don't think Messiah is over that line even without taking into consideration that it's growing in popularity.

the judge was wrong in that case also.

a judge should not have the right to go around a parents rights. While i think both sets of parents are morons that is not a reason for a judge to step in.

This judge should be removed from the bench. but that won't happen.

I did read it and once she said that any other reason is BS. Same thing if you hate blacks you don't say I did nto hire him because he is black; you make up some other reason. In this case her religious reason was why she ruled and added the other part to CYA.

LOL, the hate on liberals when based on the Judge's comments she is a crazy religious conservative. Now on topic. The parents in this case are retards, the judge is a retard as well and overstepped her authority.

It's a dumb name but the judge has no place to make them change it. Especially citing personal beliefs to do it. It's as simple as that really.

Also, I see a few usually anti-gov/control people actually supporting this decision? I guess it's okay only when they deem it so.

If you are talking about the Nazi couple I agree those children should not have been removed from their parents. But, the names they gave those kids really was child abuse. Its one thing to have a messed up or ridiculous name. But for a child's parents to name them after such people, giving them those folks full names at that, was child abuse IMO.

The parents are obviously weird, but no judge that makes this sort of decision should be allowed to stay on the bench.
