I wont buy 2142.

They cant even get BF2 working properly after 1.5 years.

Open up the server browser., thats all you have to do to begin the show of sloppy poor written code they pulled out of their ass to charge us for.

Oh gee i have the same 2 pings to every server, i cant toggle any features theyve added since release, i cant use my favorites because they dont update or refresh.

As a matter of fact, hitting the refresh button either:
1. does nothing at all.
or
2. causes all of your favs to disappear until you quit and restart the game.

The hitboxes still go all apeshit crazy whenever anyone jumps, goes prone, or lays down. They bandaided that fix by not allowing bunnyhopping and shooting or prone spamming anymore (even though you can still bunnyhop, you just cant shoot).

Planes still own the battlefield on every server due to the lack of an anti aircraft class, and / or more effective stationary AA.

They add no vehicle / infantry only servers, then they dont add a way to toggle it on/off in the server browser, so i have to manually sift through 200 results, not knowing what the damn ping is because thats broken too to connect to a server that might have the right settings.

Then on ventrillo i can tell my friends the server IP so they can connect... OH WAIT the IP is :)0)!

How about cartillery?

The horrible voting system?

At least they got the classes balanced with each other to a reasonable level.

Just played the demo and I really didnt care for it. I dont think I would purchase it even if there wasnt spyware in it. The handguns seemed in-effective. Lag was awful on all the server I tried. Graphics were not much if any better than BF2.

Titan mode is a very cool concept though. I think we will see similar modes in other games.

List Updated and sent to OP.

This is great guys. On the average cost of $45.00 for BF 2142 (some cheap, some not) we've kept a total of $3,105.00 from EA's pocket just from this thread alone.

Just from keeping the list up-to-date, we've gotten about 4-5 people added almost every day. That's about $180~$225 per day. Just thought I'd give a status report for those curious.

I don't see how this is any different than putting Jpegs into a game to advertise. Instead, the game will check what region you are in and display ads according to that. I mean, I played BF2 on my friends comp but I never saw a reason to buy it since I could just play on his. The demo for this game came out and the new mode just had me hooked. Even after reading the threads here I grabbed a copy from target because it was on sale for $42. Well, the ads aren't a problem. It just seems that this is a slippery slope argument that the ads will get worse and etc. It really doesn't seem any different than selling US copies of bf2142 with US ads and selling EUR copies with EUR ads.

It's not so simple.

For one, they are making a stretch to incorporate the ads fluently in the game. I mean, c'mon, what possible product is available now that really fits a 2142 era? Ads in a sports/racing game just help the gamer become emerged because the real-world sports/races have those kinds of qualities. When you add in the monitoring to see where the most players are on a particular map, you don't have something equivalent to an original ad, you have "updates" that aim to place themselves in the midst of the most people and therefore the most action. In addition, they could have discovered the regions for advertisments through a registration zip-code rather than spyed IP addresses.

Second, we've stated earlier that it is not just the ads that are responsible for the games backlash, but the fact that EA tried to cheap out its livestock by giving them a reskinned mod of a 1 1/2 year old engine and then concocted IGA to handle advertising--another frontier of debt-diminishing income that aims to cut "developmental costs" all while keeping a steady, high price tag. It's just the whole fact of EA trying to cheap-skate the BF franchise so they can reap more profits and buy out other more deserving titles.

The whole game's existence is nothing but DICE/EA employees tired of trying to fix a broken and number-dwindling BF2 hence creating another adventure of gamer troubleshootings and purchased beta testing.

Dear God, you guys are taking the ad stuff WAY too far. Does having an ad plastered on some wall that you may or may not see hinder your ability at ALL to pwn noobs? Didn't think so. Is it really that ridiculous to you all that they'd have 2006 era ads in a game set in the year 2142? So what if I see a Coke ad or two, I drink Coke anyways, it's not going to compel me to suddenly buy 6 12-packs. I've had my copy since Tuesday and I'm enjoying it thoroughly. The rest of you, however, can go ahead and not buy it because of billboards, I'll be shooting noobs in the meantime.

And I haven't seen anything on the billboards other than the generic graphics that came with the game either.

It rocks! I played it today at our game center with 3 other guys and it's awesome! All the new unlocks and ranking system are great and make the game much more fun!

Bought four copies yesterday :)

I'm not going to boycott (it makes us good money).

(mmm, patches, crashes and spyware, mmmmm)

But seriously I assure you I'll be having plenty of fun without it. Even if I bought 2142 it would gather dust for a couple months. I've got such a backlog of games to play right now. PC gaming is rocking these days.

Just picked up SimX too...F'n evil MS company store! I go down there to get one tiny thing and I always end up walking out with a shopping bag. How can you pass up Flight Simulator 10 for $15?? Course now I'm itching for a quad-core CPU so that third thread can run...

I don't remember where any of us said that it hinders our ability to kill someone. Perhaps you could show me where someone said that?

If they spend time making lighting, texutres, decals, physics, sounds, etc. so emersive, they automatically defeat the purpose for making it appear as a futuristic game by applying present day ads.
So what if I see a Coke ad or two, I drink Coke anyways, it's not going to compel me to suddenly buy 6 12-packs.
That's a question on the effectivness of advertising itself, not an ethic concern with implementing it into different types of media.

Like I have said, it isn't just the billboards. You paid too much for a BF2 mod with poor support and spam on the side.

We pass our times differently and it's great if the ads don't bother you. The principle of the matter is that it is an attempt to distract your eye from what otherwise would be gameplay or graphics that were intended to emerse the player in.
And I haven't seen anything on the billboards other than the generic graphics that came with the game either.
Good to hear. Maybe if they make it official that they're not trying to shove more products in our faces while playing their game our list might decrease a few. Until then I'll play it safe and wait for the PR. I'm not giving EA any benefit of the doubt.

Good. If you couldn't tell this is the boycott thread, not the "Praise BF 2142" thread. I'm not saying the game isn't fun, just that it is an example of what corporations should NOT do.

And if people DON'T object to in-game advertising, how much longer do you think it'll be until they take a page from the movie industry's book and force you to watch 5 or 6 advertisements before the game will even let you play?

Screw Battlefield 2142 and BF2. And SCREW EA, greedy bastards. Count me in on the boycott. I'm glad to see BF2142 isn't selling really well. It's obviously going to sell a lot, but at least i can hope it won't be near what they expected. It's fully stocked everywhere i've seen it.

If you are frustrated with EA products, you may want to check out Armed Assault ( www.armedassault.com ) which is being developed by BIS. Armed Assault is more of a military simulation than your average EA game, so it may have more appeal for hard-core military enthusiast that are among you who are looking for something more satisfying. The game offers much more flexibility with regard to modes of play, i.e. death match, coop, capture & hold, attack & defend, capture the flag, capture the island (basically this mode is like a RTS in first person), and a few other ?unconventional? modes as well.

I play BF2 and like the game. I don't think it's time for me to shell out another $50 for 2142.....though all my coworkers have. (except Nissangurl) I don't see the point of spending extra money to be in a futuristic map with different weapons when the game is still basically the same. I do like the added complexity of the game when you have to blow up the control panels to kill the tritons, but wouldn't spend $50 for that. I'm waiting for the next gen of graphics to pwn the current gen....if it doesn't succeed by next year, I'll just invest in a Playstation 3 and put my gaming money there instead. :p

Everyone has their own opinions on this topic, but every company needs to make money to keep producing games. The income made from game sales alone can not always provide the necessary income.

I enjoy the battlefield series and have nothing against EA
I have read that there is no cache scanning or anything done by the "spyware" installed with the game. I think calling it spyware is just jumping to conclusions.

Maybe people just need to sit back and relax for a second and realize that EA put time, effort and money resources into making this game. Enjoy it for what it is ... a time waster, just like every other game. So untill something better is released settle down and enjoy the game.

My two cents. Enjoy!

Can you put my name in bold with italics and an underline? I am now really pissed at EA for infesting innocent computers with spyware and putting stupid ads in a retail game that you pay full price for! I don't care about that disclaimer! It's wrong!!
