This is exactly what I mean. Offended that I don't like Johnny Depp and feels the need to try to insult me because I haven't watched all 16 of Johnny Depp's movies since Chocolat.

*EDIT* Thanks to the rest of you who made suggestions without the attitude.

Oh, come on Jeff. You are not looking for anyone to make suggestions. You are looking for other people who judged him on films they saw 5 years ago and none that they have seen recently. My post was chalk full of facts, ie 16 movies you could see him in as well as 3 specific suggestions.

Why don't you change your subject to "Does anyone else hate Johnny Depp as much as I"?

Well said.

I liked Depp in Ed Wood. Actually I think Depp is just a good actor in every movie he's in even if he seems a bit out there in real life and I really don't care what he does in real life.

Don't forget he was in the first Nightmare on Elm Street! How about that scene when Depp gets dragged inside his bed with that huge blood geyser coming out?

If you're gonna be an ass why bother posting? Do you think you're "calling me out" or something? I'm looking for movies I can see him at his best in. If you have recommendations, share them. If you're just going to get on my case for not swinging from Johnny Depp's nut hair and memorizing ever movie he's ever been in then go the fvck away.

I cant believe no one said Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Granted the movie was kind of weird, (maybe even bad), but he certainly did his job as an actor.

He just takes interesting roles and does a good job of bringing them to life.

Edward Scissorhands
Ed Wood
Cry-baby
Sleepy Hollow
Donnie Brasco
Pirates of the Carribean

He's not the the Best. Actor. Ever! but he makes most of the movies he's in more interesting to watch, just like Val Kilmer and Christopher Walken.

I'm sorry I've upset you, I was merely pointing out how irrational you were being.

I agree about Walken and Kilmer. Depp has never made that impression on me though. Got a good list of material now though so maybe I'll finally understand it. :)

Besides being a good actor, he seems genuinely intelligent and just has that cool vibe. Not the forced "I am cool" thing, an authentic one.

Ed Wood is one of my all-time favorite movies, and Depp perfectly nailed the boundless enthusiasm of the character who loves his craft, so much that he can't see that he's terrible at it.

The movie had everything else working for it too: script, direction, co-stars, music and sets. But I can't think of any other actor who would have fit that part so well.

That's true... while he has some unusual ideas, he's not one of those annoying hollywood types who uses their fame to force their opinions/views onto the world. *cough* Tom Cruise *cough* ... sorry, throat's a little scratchy. ;)

I have been trying to figure out why people like him so much. I accept that women think he's good looking and that's why some of them like him no matter what kind of actor he is. My friends seem to get offended when I don't agree that he's a wonderful actor... maybe I just haven't seen him at his best. I thought The Ninth Gate was horrible, and I didn't think he did anything to make it any better. I didn't think he was anything special in What Eating Gilbert Grape, although I did like the movie. I didn't think his performance in Chocolat was memorable. I liked Edward Scissorhands, but I don't think he brought anything to the movie that someone else couldn't have.

Can someone recommend one of his movies where I could see him at his best so maybe I understand what the big deal is about?

I thought him fitting for the role in Pirates of the Carribean...

A gay, drunk pirate? Yup, fit the role pretty well.
