GALVESTON — A jogger on Galveston Island discovered a bag in the surf Tuesday containing 25 bricks of cocaine with an estimated street value of $2 million.
The jogger, whose name police are withholding, discovered the bag about 9:30 a.m. near Indian Beach, police spokesman Cpt. Jeff Heyse said.
He lugged the heavy bag to his residence and slashed it open to find 25 bricks of cocaine, each weighing 1 kilogram or 2.2 pounds, bundled in plastic wrap and rubber, Heyse said.
Recognizing the packages as cocaine from television programs, the jogger phoned police, Heyse said. The bricks tested positive for cocaine, he said.
The wholesale value of each brick is about $675,000, he said.
Heyse speculated that the cocaine could have been dumped overboard by drug runners at the approach of a U.S. Coast Guard vessel or may have been intentionally allowed to drift into the beach for a pickup.
He said the drugs would be sent to a Federal Bureau of Investigation lab. The lab would be able to determine the country of origin, but it would be nearly impossible to find out who tossed it overboard.
"We'll never know, unless a body washes up behind it," Heyse said.

$675,000 per brick times 25 bricks does not equal $2,000,000... it equals nearly $17,000,000. That guy gave away a fortune. So good on him I guess...

If I were him I would not jog on that beach for a while. Someone will be pissed their cocaine got picked up by the popo.

maybe they meant 2 million for each brick? if wholesale was $675k, I can see the street price going at 2million if it was super pure.

Good on the jogger, though. I'm not sure that I wouldn't be able to hold on to one of those bricks. Not that I have any clue how to sell it...without being hunted down and murdered by the traffickers, at least.

that was my first thought.

Hopefully, he and the family are taking a month off in Wyoming. He probably lives nearby.

Good for him. If I had found it I would have had a fun time, ending disasterously shortly after. Oh the possibilities, I will dream about that for the remainder of my work day.

didn't a little hurricane just pass through there a few days ago?

maybe the satchel was carried over from much further away.

:hmm:

plenty of people all over the world scour beaches looking for exactly this. the temptation is certainly there to keep it, but then what? i wouldn't be able to get rid of 50 pounds of cocaine easily, nor do i wish to associate with those necessary to facilitate that.

wholesale for a key is no where near 675k.

retail for a key can be anywhere between $12k -25k

After tap dancing on it and you can triple the volume(at least). So 75000g x $50 = $3.75 million is the real figure I come up with and it would increase from their if you were going to convert it to crack. I dont know what math they used.

yeha, that's the thing.

My first thought would be to approach a bouncer at a local VIP club, or maybe the doorman at a fancy hotel.

it seems that the estimates you get from cops are always way the hell off.

I think they tend to take one type of quality/strain (MJ) or purity (coke/heroin) and apply to every stash they find.

I'm waiting for someone to say that he should of kept it and sold it. Can you imagine inviting people over to your house to party with as much as they want and then telling them, "I got plenty, so ask everybody you know if they want to buy some."

Ignroing the criminal risks, I'm pretty sure the king pins in the south florida coke game aren't just going to let you set up shop either.

I don't know... I think if I stumbled across that much cocaine and decided I would sell it, I would have a better plan than "tell everyone that I have massive amounts of cocaine." That's not a good business strategy when dealing in illegal wares, especially illegal wares that you found washed up on a beach which are a common cause of extreme violence.
