Edit: But I'm sympathetic because @sportage's relatives are a bag of douches, so he gets a pass for going out of his mind sometimes and needing some sympathy, some slack. I'm sure he's aware of all this. He gets kudos for not succumbing to the dark side. ;) Still, I wish we'd see less of his Doubting Thomas side.

One of The Nation’s Largest Pipelines Caused The Biggest Spill in Decades–And We’re Just Hearing About It

At first, the pipeline company reported that only 63,000 gallons of oil had been spilled, but throughout the fall, that number steadily crept up: 273,000 gallons in September, 311,000 gallons in November. The company now says nearly 1.2 million gallons have been leaked; that number could still rise as more assessments are done.

While pipeline owners tend to undershoot their initial estimates of spills, this level of screwup is “somewhat astronomical and not normal,” said Jared Margolis, a senior attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity.

Unless you’re living in Huntersville, North Carolina, you may be blissfully unaware that the U.S.’s biggest gasoline spill since 1997 happened this past summer. The slowly-unfolding, little-reported-on saga in the state involves a company controlled by special interests like the Koch brothers and Shell, and a pipeline that has been transporting dirty energy for decades. And the crisis of the Colonial pipeline points to one of the next big issues for American fossil fuel infrastructure: what to do about dangerous, aging pipelines as we move to clean energy.

Here we are barely weeks into a Biden administration and America is at it again, getting involved in the middle east with military operations. I don’t care if you liked Trump or hated Trump during the past four years, however one thing that I know for sure, Americans enjoyed NOT hearing about the Middle East or of military involvement and especially new military engagements. Seriously Joe, you want to go there AGAIN? To begin those years of troops and bombs and engagement all over again? WTF is wrong with you? Seriously. Americans learned their lesson the hard way, why haven’t you?

Don’t get me wrong, I am glad that Joe Biden was elected. I am rejoicing that Donald Trump is no longer president. But so far Joe Biden is doing exactly what I feared he might do. And I definitely believe Joe Biden is listening to the wrong people. War is never popular. America policing the world was never popular. When huge messy leaky oil tankers can be limited or reduced by one single pipeline, that is a good thing for the environment. It is easier to fix an oil leak on a pipe above ground than to stop tons of oil leaking out of some sunken tanker miles below the oceans surface. And it is desirable to have some immigrant wait outside of the border instead of inside the border when applying for asylum. When you let someone inside the border they do tend to disappear while waiting for that application answer. We all know what got Donald Trump elected in 2016, and why Democrats, good loyal Democrats, crossed over to vote for Trump. It could easily happen again.

Also as a side note.
It's Canadian oil, owned by Canadian Companies, that is to low grade to be sold in the USA, and will be sold overseas.

So your point is totally moot.

I'm fine with the Canadian toxic oil (more toxic than "normal" oil) pipeline being shut down. While it's probably true that there are more leaks/spills caused by rail transportation, pipelines tend to leak larger quantities when they do.

So far, I think my biggest beef with Biden is on illegal immigration. O'm one of the few who would prefer to see them ALL rounded up and sent back to where ever they came from...box em upnd send them back...their only option being whether it's in a box car...or pine box.

Same here .... I suggest a huge butterfly net. (key word here being "illegal")

I also however also fully support making it far easier to become a citizen. :)

AFAIC,LEGAL immigrants should be required to start the citizenship process after they're here for 5 years...and complete it within 10 years...or be deported.

NO public benefits...welfare, food stamps, WIC, SS, etc. until they become citizens.

IMO, it should be MUCH harder to immigrate here...and citizenship should be EARNED...not just given out like Halloween candy.

Why should it be harder to immigrate here? One of the largest advantages the US has is we steal all the best and brightest from other countries. Like, you realize other countries who fund their citizens’ education here often have explicit clauses requiring them to return to their home country because they are scared they won’t, right?

America should welcome anyone who wants to come here who is willing to work and is willing to adopt American values. That’s what makes America great.

This is the truth of it. The people who emigrate here are likely to contribute more to our economic, moral and spiritual health than the people who are already here. Bring them on, it IS what makes us great.

Thing is the folks who emigrate here legally to go to school contribute to society instead of only taking. (ie: working under the table, paying zero taxes and sending 95% of earnings back home so nearly nothing is spent here)

Rounding up and shipping out folks here illegally who contribute very little to nothing, but still cost us plenty in services is fine by me.

Conversely those who want to come here and become a citizen, get a job and/or start a business and give back should have a less arduous path to becoming legal.

In other words we should provide incentive to be legal, not the reverse.

While I agree that we should provide incentives to legally immigrate on average illegal immigrants pay more in taxes than they get in services.

It really isn't that difficult IMO.

Anyone who comes illegally can register. You won't be kicked out. You won't be charged with a crime (even though border-hoping is a crime). However - you will never be rewarded with citizenship. Under any circumstances. None, zilch. We do not reward criminal behavior. You can also compete for employment with everyone else. However - you will pay the same taxes that the rest of the nation pays - in addition to a tax penalty related to any and all costs having to do with illegal immigration. We can debate all we want about what the cost of this is - 2, 5, 10, 15% of their wages, etc.

Essentially, they are cheap labor importations. So when people talk about defending the lower class - that is Stop #1. You are bringing in an influx of unskilled labor. This unquestionably hurts the lower class of our society as it continues to drive down wages for basic skills.

If you don't like the penalty taxes - you can leave at any time.

Don't want to register and pay taxes? Instant deportation. Do not pass go. No exceptions. If folks don't find that reasonable then you have a severe mental disorder.

That and it has zero pertinence to any reference of citizens or not.
