What is this for? sending grenades to people via mortars? Seems like otherwise it over thinks and complicates the most simple use of a bomb ever created..
Dropped from drones. Very inexpensive, simple, and reliable way to kill a small group of people and/or a light vehicle.

Looks like an inexpensive way to turn a cheap commodity drone into a bomber

There already is one.. it's called a mortar round/missile/bomb.. it's this only done in a way that goes boom when it makes contact.. not open up so the thing inside with a timer can go boom..

Huh? You carry that little doodad with a commercial prop drone, then drop when the timing is appropriate, as observed by a camera mounted on the drone. It's probably an order of magnitude cheaper to operate than a mortar, much less a missile or bomb.

I'm assuming you're thinking this would be military.. not civilian as civilians having grenades feels troublesome at best... in which case, are they supposed to carry all this into battle? Seems a bit like a lot of work for very little.. also when has the military ever worried about doing things cheaply? That's not getting into the whole.. do you expect it to go boom when it hits the ground, like a mortar, or do you expect it to pop open a grenade that can then be tossed away?

Clearly the pin gets removed before placing in the shell. That's literally the only way it would work.

Dude where have you been? Ukrainian armed forces have been using these exact objects (and similar) on Russian military forces for the last three months. Here:
